I realize the politics getting in the way of this

BUT DAMN – Do I ever want to see a Nick and Robbie rematch NEXT.

Ceasar Gracie camp owns SF at the moment. Shields Diaz Melenedez.

Congrats to everyone who picked Robbie over MM. He took an a$$ whoopin but played a "risky" game plan like a fiddle. H O L Y S H 1 T that was an insane finish - Melvin was completly waxed. 2/3 on the night. Crap.

Robbie.......um...Law.....is it Lawlor?? Oh wow

I can see why UFC and Dana are leary and want all control over their product. That was hideous

this lady is the worst

her questions are ridiculous and she clearly knows nothing about mma

by panthro on Jan 31, 2010 8:56 AM EST up reply actions

Dont you guys know anything....

That lady is Lucia Rijker one of the best female fighters to ever walk this earth. Your talking about a women who beat the crap out of not only women but men as well. She even dethroned an undefeated muy thai champion and the champ was a man. seriously guys do you homework.

Way to be involved!

That’s pathetic. It reminded me of the old days during the firs few UFC’s when nobody knew who any of the fighters were. No excuse.

by Jrandolph on Jan 31, 2010 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

simply embarrassing.

Dana is right in wanting control of production.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Jan 31, 2010 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

no.

UFC’s production is terrible, and we get to see paid judges give decisions to whoever the UFC wants, and also hear Rogan/Goldberg go on the whole fight about the fighter UFC’s banking on.

fresh like uhh.

by RoBerto. on Jan 31, 2010 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

im with Roberto so ya i think he's serious.

SF isn’t any better production wise yet, but I do see areas that their working fast to improve each show.

by daniel worby on Jan 31, 2010 5:49 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

of course i’m serious, just cause the UFC have more quality fighters ppl think their whole production and everything they have is great.

PPL would say the same damn thing if the UFC’s fighters fought in Strikeforce.

It’s called being ignorant because you get what you want.

fresh like uhh.

by RoBerto. on Jan 31, 2010 7:32 PM EST up reply actions

I think you got that the wrong way around

it’s not that people think the production is good because of the fighters, it’s that they think the fighters are good because of the production.

Carwin
Kimbo
Baroni
Forrest
Tito
ETC..

all grossly over rated, but because of UFC production, promo etc. In the eyes of the casual fan, these guys are the who’s who of MMA.

BTW I am a big fan of Forrest, his book was hilarious and I always love to watch him fight and I think he’s shocked us all a couple of times, Shogun, Rampage… plus he’s the real deal, fought for next to nothing in small promos, got his arm broken and carried on fighting. I will always respect him, but he is held in way too high regard. I think lil Nog will take him out!! but there’s still a part of me that wants him to win.

"OH GOD THAT'S DISGUSTING! HE BROKE HIS FREAKIN' ARM"
"hey man that's the business, we're not figure skating"

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP. Amen.

awesome quote from last night....

“i geuss she doesnt like the color her toenails are painted”
-mauro after cyborg was foot stomping coenon against the cage

I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.

by Newfie3 on Jan 31, 2010 8:49 AM EST reply actions

Haha that was quality

I know a lot of people were bashing the commentary but I thought that Mauro did a good job and it was great to see him call out Shammy for the “that doesn’t hurt” BS that he tried to play again. Of course Diaz’s punches hurt, how can someone who got TKO’d by Nick deny that. Then again this is the same guy that claimed that Cung Le’s kicks don’t hurt, despite having his arm broken by one of them. What a moron. The other guy was a bit anonymous but is nowhere near as annoying as Gus Johnson.

"If I could change my name what would it be? Jesus"

by David W-S on Jan 31, 2010 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

I’ll be honest… I usually don’t like them. Hell I still don’t like them, but the commentary last night was much better. Also, MELVIN GOT KTFO!

by HappyLittleTreez on Jan 31, 2010 9:23 AM EST up reply actions

can someone please please please explain to me....

how NAGY is pronounced “nudge”? or nooge? or whatever…how??

I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.

by Newfie3 on Jan 31, 2010 9:58 AM EST reply actions

isn't he dutch?

that explains it

Congrats to everyone who picked Robbie over MM. He took an a$$ whoopin but played a "risky" game plan like a fiddle. H O L Y S H 1 T that was an insane finish - Melvin was completly waxed. 2/3 on the night. Crap.

No Nagy is an hungarian/slovakian or something name that’s why you pronounce it nudge or simply Noj.

fresh like uhh.

by RoBerto. on Jan 31, 2010 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

nice to hear that the commentators knew about that cause what i hate the most is how bad english speaking ppl are at pronouncing names, and it has to with how different english is to all other European or even south american countries speak.

and IMO...

gina carano would get owned by coenen

based on last night I would back that up. Coenen got skill

I've been telling everyone that for a while but no one believed me.

I was disappointed that she didn’t do more guard work or go for leglocks etc… but cyborg wasn’t giving her much. She did the same thing at ADCC and got pretty far with brute strength.

Onto Toughill now – she doesn’t have anything that can finish cyborg but she’s durable. It will look like a gritty fighter who’s edged in all department take a beating for 5 rds but make it somewhat exciting.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Jan 31, 2010 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

Coenen had one hell of a chin as well

The only other fighter that took close to that much punishment from Cyborg was that lil 120 lb Jap girl that was cornered by Barnett. She was TOUGH

I AM SOMETIMES BIASED - Get over it!!!!!!!

by ViolentMike on Feb 1, 2010 11:32 AM EST up reply actions

I see by the comments here that a lot of people don’t watch or follow a lot of combat sports. But Lucia Rijker was a world class female kick boxer and boxer and to say she knows nothing about the sport is ridiculous.

As for her stumbling with Robbie’s last name she’s Dutch and English isn’t her first language.

By far the best fight on the card

IMO

by MMAuthority on Jan 31, 2010 12:39 PM EST reply actions

did you see those fight stats

I think lawler landed 3 total the whole fight. I remember mm getting rocked against santos but still held on and came back for the ko. Lawler caught him and ended it out of knowhere! I was convinced that mm had him ratted with all those leg kicks. Big props to lawler. Nothing better then a shocking strikeforce comeback ala hands of steel. Totally made up for the previous Lashley fight but they should have had it later in the card. Also excited to see MM again.

Good win for Lawler.

He took a beating but came back. Manhoef was pretty impressive too, even in defeat. Would love to see a rematch down the line.

Props 2 Robbie ! That fight was going exactly how I thought

B4 Robbie landed the big kabosh! Lol that was 1 of the sickest ko’s I’ve seen! Noway in hell I thoght Robbie was guna pull this off. Nick Diaz is the man! That was such an awesome fight!

I was jumping up and down

Holy shit that was one sweet fucking KO!

Loved the way Manhoefs eyes rolled back and blood just pouring out.

Congrats to Lawler.

Then Wen the blood leaked in his eye

My chick was like omg he busted his eye! Lol cuz I was going fir Melvin & ibwas yelling killem killem then the big kabosh! Lol

by d*locc on Jan 31, 2010 3:38 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Prime example of why I love MMA

and love a serious striker. Lawler was getting eaten up by the leg kicks but kept his composure and capitalized in a big way on Melvin. Great finish!!

by sudnvictory on Jan 31, 2010 3:37 PM EST reply actions

Eat that UFC

Another strikeforce card with fights that that get finished. No BS decisions. And free. Keep it up Coker.

by Dball on Jan 31, 2010 4:10 PM EST via mobile reply actions

great game plan or shear luck

Cant tell if this was all game plan ala kenflo or just shear luck.

Either way brilliant KO.
