Inside the Numbers: Evans was outlanded 48-17 in Total Strikes Landed but it was his 7 Takedowns that gave him the edge in the fight. Silva outlanded Evans 21-2 in Total Strikes in the 3rd round and was able to hurt Evans but ran out of gas before he was able to try and finish him.

Um... No?
I dont’ know what this compuStrike thing is but just watching the fight it’s CLEAR that Rashad won first two rounds and was mixing up his strikes with take downs.
And if you go by the FightMetric it’s Evans total strikes – 156, to Silva’s – 134.
It's irrelevant
Strikes are only a component in scoring a fight. I’m so tired of hearing people saying that Rashad won the first 2 rounds but didn’t do any damage…so what? He still enforced his will and his gameplan. Sub attempts don’t always do damage either but if a fighter keeps attempting them…he’s enforcing his will.
People Saying that Thiago deserves a 10-8 round for the 3rd round are insane…landing 1 solid punch that made Shad wobble does not make a 10-8 round…it’s completely ridiculous.
It’s getting to be pretty sad that most people seem to judge fights based on damage. Well Rashad damaged Silva’s cardio by draining him the first 2 rounds. If all you care about is damage done then go watch boxing or K-1

lol I don’t know if you’re like yelling at me dude, but I didn’t disagree. I was implying the same thing. It was CLEAR Rashad won.
Fact is, lots of people were bitching that he just “layed” on him, yet they fail to see he mixed in his strikes with wrestling very good for the first two 2nds.
They just like to see the bad, and that’s it. It’s pretty pathetic on their part.
i like Bas Rutten’s old saying in Pride. “if a fighter gets the takedown, but doesn’t try any g-n-p or attempt any sub’s, then it should be looked at as that fighter is stalling, issued a yellow card and loses 10% of his purse.” Takedowns should be irrelevant, seeing as ANY fighter in the ufc can takedown ANY other fighter, just some guys are focused on busting up their opponents face and not on takedowns. Any man with a jr. varsity football background can form tackle and get a takedown…so what?!
it is stalling and i've been saying that for years, a takedown does nothing if the other guy gets up right away it's fighting and wrestling itself isn't fighting.
the realest thing in a fight is obviously hitting someone and the next thing is submitting someone by a choke or taking an arm or a leg. it was painful hearing the biased commentary too, how rogan/goldberg was all over Shad’s balls now after he came out from the TUF show, it’s so obvious when the UFC favorizes a fighter. the pay they received was totally unfair too! Rashad is no star they just think he is.
However i do feel like Rashad was the more active fighter in round 2, round 1 was pretty damn close. round 3 had thiago dominating totally.
sometimes the beauty is in the attempt.
nice to see some stats on what happened, the UFC should have that and get better commentators.
sometimes the beauty is in the attempt.
You just don't get it.
Please, stop watching MMA and just stick to K-1 Roberto, you clearly have no interest for it. I hate lay and pray and stalling on the ground, but there was none of that in this fight. Rashad couldn’t keep Silva down long enough to do much but he was still clearly winning both rounds by basically doing whatever he wanted. He got caught by 2 or 3 stiff shots and thats about all that thiago did for the first 13 minutes of the fight.
taking someone down and doing nothing is like “advantage” in a bjj sport match. yes, in the absence of ALL else it will be enough ot win a round, but landing THREE strikes on the ground is laughable and hardly the basis for saying Rashad did more than barely win the first two rounds. I’d be inclined to have awarded those rounds to Silva is he had done more submission attempts, sweep attempts etc. If he had done so the utter lack of Rashad doing anything on the mat would have been more apparent.
