Paul 'Semtex' Daley explains post-fight apology after UFC 108 KO over Dustin Hazelett

Hazelett-out_medium

Props: MMA Fighting

Quoteworthy:

"It's not very honorable to stand over a guy after you just knocked him out and shoot him in the head with a pretend gun. That's just not cool. Then to wind his coach up a little bit by laughing, it's not a cool thing to do but you know when you're full of adrenaline you do stupid things."

Heavy-handed welterweight striker Paul Daley clears the air regarding the post-fight antics that may have irked the "McLovin'" camp following his UFC 108 knockout win over Dustin Hazelett. "Semtex" quickly apologized for the shenanigans and admits to being overcome with adrenaline after putting the grappling whiz to sleep. Can we expect another dominating performance from Daley in 2010? Or will his ground game get exposed sooner rather than later?

It’s all good. He apologized right after. It’s understandable. To me at least.

Anybody know of Daley has to give McLovin a share of his Knockout of the Night bonus?

I am pretty sure he has to give him a portion of his purse cause he came in overweight, but anyone know if he has to split the KOOTN bonus?

by WallyBallz on Jan 3, 2010 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think so. A bonus is a bonus. The purse is contracted.

by bubbafat on Jan 3, 2010 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

not really fair

sure anthony johnston wasn’t allowed to recieve a ko bonus because he was over weight how come semtex is allowed to get his??

I was thinking the same thing. Kinda messed up

At least Daley isn’t white, otherwise we’d be hearing that Dana is a racist.

by ViolentMike on Jan 4, 2010 9:53 AM EST up reply actions

That is a great point. Although Rumble was waaaay overweight (177) you have to draw the line somewhere and I think even if its a pound over they shouldnt be eligible. Add in the fact I read daley has missed weight in 3 of his last 6 fights, we dont want a situation where he gets a fight with GSP in the future and then fails to make weight.

I told you

a bad mo fo! he once said in the uk in the cage face to face with his opponent “if you ko me everyone hear can f**k my mum”

what Daley did was 10 times worse then anything Bisping done and i love it. Gsp will lose the Brits are world class. I want to see Joe Lauzon v Etim

WTF

funny GSP WILL RAPE Daley and dan the same time !!!

by TD500 on Jan 3, 2010 6:37 AM EST up reply actions

Im from the U.K

GSP will kill both of them

by Icefish on Jan 3, 2010 6:40 AM EST up reply actions

He'd kill em both

But I think the Daley match up would be more interesting. Daley has the most brutal hands in WW. I’d like to see him fight Kos, Rumble or Alves

by IrishKev on Jan 3, 2010 9:40 AM EST up reply actions

GSP will lose? You mean to Dan Hardy? That’s laughable. Actually, that’s way more than laughable. I just hope that GSP doesn’t punt Hardy’s head into the crowd after what will probably be the shortest title fight in GSP’s run, Hardy doesn’t even belong in the same arena.

The only words that come to mind when I think of Hardy Vs GSP is “Prison Raping”

by AJ B on Jan 3, 2010 2:09 PM EST up reply actions

Got to say I've been under estimating Daley

ever since he I picked him against Shields. But I don’t think His ground game is good enough to deal with Fitch, Kos, and some of the other wrestlers at WW. I’d love to see him fight Thiago Alves.

by DB22 on Jan 3, 2010 9:20 AM EST reply actions

Honestly

Hazelett was a moron with his gameplan. Standing directly in front of Daley with zero head movement and in perfect striking distance….not a good idea. That being said said GSP would smash Daley with much better movement and striking and then take him down and pound his ass out…

by Jake1977 on Jan 3, 2010 9:21 AM EST reply actions

na i dont think so..

daley would hammer gsp in the stand up he would b a fool to stand their and trade with semtex

by ruanfiy on Jan 3, 2010 9:35 AM EST up reply actions

hate to disagree

Thiago Alves is as dangerous as Semtex if not more, and how did GSP do in the standup against him? I don’t think GSP would try and trade with Semtex the whole fight, rather use his striking to take him down at will and pound him out.

by Jake1977 on Jan 3, 2010 1:17 PM EST up reply actions

His only fault was..

when he took a step in and tried to trade with daley, he def. needed to try a crazy guard pull instead.

by Crackkbaby on Jan 3, 2010 11:20 AM EST up reply actions

What?

Crazy guard pull? can you be more specific? He didn’t step in, rather he stepped straight back (not smart) and ate a terrific left hook and it was nighty night.

by Jake1977 on Jan 3, 2010 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

Daley needs to get a ground game

He says it has improved but that is yet to be seen.

Many fighters say that they’ve improved in certain areas . . . we will never really be able to see it until some one gets him to the ground. But like Daley said, “I keep knocking MF’ers out.”

I want to see Daley knock out Kos

and Kos is stupid enough to think he can bang with Daley, but if Kos decides to fight smart and take him down, it will be over for Daley.

Couldn't of put it better myself.

Would love to see Kos getting in a stand up fight with Daley and it resulting in Kos getting KTFO!!

most definitely!

i really want to see him try to stand though… they’ll be no dispute as to whether he’s out or not like the paulo thiago fight

Paul trains with bj’s wrestling coach , so I am curious to see his takedown defense.

Daley has a serious sprawl but his defensive wrestling is still weak

Also IMO BJ’s trainers are very average…His talent shines way more than their work except for Marv and his bro. It’s his new training partners that are the key. Regardless, it think for Daley the solid and proper striking footwork is too ingrained for DiSabato to teach him anything else besides sprawling out harder which i believe is mostly athleticism anyways.

At least he didn't break the guy's arm and tell him he's number 1 ...

I actually had no idea what he was being sorry for … but good show of class

by bigern on Jan 3, 2010 10:12 AM EST reply actions

Wtf was hazelett doing?

He stood completely still, didnt move an inch, zero head and feet movement…

anyone could see that KO coming

by Lester The Pimp on Jan 3, 2010 10:19 AM EST reply actions

Yeah..

That was a lot like Maia/Marquardt. Hazelett had no business standing with him.

by HappyLittleTreez on Jan 3, 2010 10:36 AM EST up reply actions

totally agree

daley does have some good hands but hazelett is crap. just stood there.
no chance against gsp thought. he is way too small and wont be able to land that big punch and will be grounded and pounded out in rd 1. quite like his buddy hardy

I'm very confident this fight can go either way.

I saw that too

Shad/Page and Machida/Shogun on the same card? I wasn’t going to go this year unless GSP was fighting again. Maybe I will have to go now.

Frank Mir packed 30+ pounds of solid muscle onto his body in five months. Why hasn't anyone called him out for steroid use? Is it because he never wrestled for Vince McMahon? I give Mir credit for his taste in strippers/wives, not his fighting skills or his personality.

i know man

thats 2 super fights right there. watching rampage KO rashad should be awesome! gonna have to go..most likely meet gsp somewhere lol

Decent nights of fights. I too stuck with Dana and bought the PPV. Please Dana, make these non title main events five rounds. It’s such an easy solution to overcome all the injuries. I was saying the same thing when I was at 106 with Ortiz and Griffin.

and Sam Stout is AWESOME

even with seconds left, and clearly winning, he was throwing flying knees and spinning back fists trying to finish and put on a show, not giving 2 flying f’s about gettin kod. what a fight. and feel bad for joe lauzon i think that kid is way better than he showed last night.

Stout showed heart and made me a fan. J Lau had his first fight in about a year, always hard to shake the cobwebs off, just like what happened to Hazelett and his 13 months off.

by Crackkbaby on Jan 3, 2010 11:23 AM EST up reply actions

i felt guilty..

though he is a fellow canadian i picked lauzon in my pick em pool…but i was cheering for stout and damn he showed up to that fight all right..looked fresh for all 3 rounds..lucky he did not get sub’d in the first and out did joe..wicked.

by sarah- on Jan 3, 2010 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t feel bad sarah-, I’m a fellow Canadian and picked Lauzon as well. I thought his ground game would have been too much for Stout, but it’s clear Stout has been working hard. I was cheering for Stout, but I didn’t think he could pull it off and definetly not that convincingly. I do feel bad for Lauzon though, he’s a good guy and had a really long layoff, as well as watching his brother get tapped to one of the craziest submissions pulled off in competition the same night.

Stout isn't a slouch on the ground

And gets up quickly from most take downs.

I know he’s not a slouch, I just thought JLau would have been able to control him better there…boy was I wrong. I do think the layoff had a little to do with the way Lauzon gassed, not to take anything away from Stout, he looked really good.

The lay off was almost equal

Stout hadn’t fought in a long time either. Stout is too hard to sub. You guys give Joe a little too much credit. Stout is an absolute beast on the feet. Good combos and an iron chin will win a lot of fights.

i just hope they don’t decide to put him up against some lame ass “lay n pray” grappler just to show he’s not that good on the ground.
