UFC LW 8-Man Tournament Wrap-up

We have finally come to the end of the UFC LW Tournament.  In the end, destiny saw # 1 seed Kenny Florian finally reach the promise land, as he defeated (with 63% of the vote) a game Tyson Griffin to become the LW Champion in a world where BJ Penn doesn't exist.

Seems as though the Maniacs recognize that Kenny has separated himself from the rest of the UFC's LW division, in terms of skill and ability.  So with that said, congratulations Ken-Flo...  If there ever comes a day when BJ is either kidnapped or hit by a car, the consensus says that you will be the man to hold the gold in the LW division!!!!

QF1:       1 Kenny Florian
8 Takanori Gomi        SF 1:    1 Kenny Florian
                                                            4 Frank Edgar
QF2:       4 Frank Edgar
5 Joe Stevenson                                                Championship:  1 Kenny Florian
                                                                                                                  6 Tyson Griffin
QF3:       3 Gray Maynard
6 Tyson Griffin           SF 2:   6 Tyson Griffin
                                                            2 Diego Sanchez
QF4:       2  Diego Sanchez
               7 Sean Sherk

Final Thoughts...

I was surprised by the unlikely run of 6 seed Tyson Griffin.  The manics felt that he had the goods to handle 2 of the division's biggest threats in Grey Maynard and Diego Sanchez.   Those are interesting matchups that I wouldn't mind actually seeing some day.

Hope everyone had fun with the Tournament and the picks.  Be sure to check out the UFC WW 8-Man Tourney which I will post shortly.
