UFC Quick Quote: Lil' Nog is a 'horrible fight' for Forrest Griffin

Forrest_griffin_medium

"That is a horrible fight for me. I have trained with his brother a little bit, so he already has the 'inside scoop' on me, he's a southpaw, has got a good chin, and has good power. Plus he is pretty solid on the ground. The only place I would have an advantage would be wrestling... and my wrestling is not that good. So yeah, that’s a tough match up for me. I'd do it, if that’s what they wanted, but being straight up, there are other guys I'd rather fight."

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin tells MMASportsMag he isn't exactly warm and fuzzy over his planned match up against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira UFC 113 event from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on May 8. Perhaps Griffin is still a little weary of Brazilians after the clobbering he took against Anderson Silva last year -- is it that a loss to "Lil' Nog" could send him tumbling down the 205-pound rankings? Unfortunately there is very little margin for error in this division. Where does Forrest rank before and after the Nogueira fight?

what a fucking pussy!

Forrest is garbage! One of the most over rated fighters that I have ever seen. Forrest, if you accept being over rated, and undeservingly (is that a real word?)called a top fighter, then you fight other top fighters regardless of how bad of a match up it is for you.

Poor Forrest just realized the downside of being a UFC marketing creation…the BS hype doesnt carry over in the cage

Cant wait til this fight. to be made official so I can bet my house on this fight! For sure, I will bet the most amount of money that I have ever bet on this fight! Forrest should open up at a plus 500 underdog!

Cant wait for this fight!

Me and my boy NNR have been predicting that 2010 will expose Forrest for the c’-level fighter that he is….and right now we are on schedule! Forrest will be rematching Sick Dog and Elvis sinosic by 2011…hahahaha|!

Like who the fuck says that? So what now we’re all supposed to feel bad and let him have Kimbo or what? This is ridiculous. What the fuck do you do with a guy like this? This wounded puppy needs to be euthanized. This is the most depressing quote I’ve ever read from a fighter!

Bullshit

If you beat Shogun (nomatter the conditions) and Rampage to win the 205-title is not a little deal. Respect and spare us your envy.

No doubt so much hate towards Forrest. He’s not my favorite fight by a long shot but hes no C level fighter thats just ignorant. That being said the only way Forrest wins (in my eyes) is if LIL Nog gets a staph infection and still fights.

If he's not willing to fight everyone they put in front of him

He should be getting a pay cut, at least. He makes top money and is choosing who he fights now?

He really helped the UFC grow and won a title thats why he makes big money. That and alot of people love him. I loved watching him fight before he went all technical. But he is a model employee that takes fights on short notice and fights where he’s gotta beat really solid competition. Wonder what Dana has to say about this.

I was beginning to think I was the only one that thought he was kidding, he always says stuff like this sarcastically. Any time he is asked who he thinks will win one of his fights he always says the other guy and says he is a terrible fighter. I think it is just now people don’t think he is kidding any more lol. I still love Forrest as a fighter regardless of what all these guys post about him being a “pussy”.

This quote is disturbing, sounds like hes getting old. The youngfer forrest wouldnt care who he gets into the cage with.

I understand you not liking him John, but Forrest is far from C level, He fights alot top level fighters, is pretty well rounded (just not great at anything) and has a couple of big wins to his credit. Anybody is gonna look bad against silva.

I'm a Forrest fan and proud of it

A C-level fighter? You guys are a joke! Forrest is a self-deprecating type of person, you should now that by now. Most fighters just over-hype themselves up, and maybe that’s necessary for them, but Forrest is just an honest guy. It doesn’t mean he’s not gonna try.

The guy beat up Rampage for 5 rounds, dominantly. He choked out Shogun. He was beating Rashad until he got caught. And he beat Tito twice, yes TWICE! The first fight should’ve been 29-28 for Forrest.

Forrest is definitely not C level..

but for sure like a b, b- level fighter. He’s gonna be along your matt hamill’s of the world and fighting Bonnar a third time soon enough. You can’t expect to sit next to A level fighters with 0 skills and some intangibles. I hope they match him up wit Bones Jones after he beats up Vera. Use up the remaining luster in his name to further market a giant prospect with limitless upside. Or maybe a franklin fight?

Forrest did dominate Page, but that's just my opinion.

When you win almost every round on a 5 rd fight, and at least one 10-8 rd…that’s dominant.

by jay. on Jan 29, 2010 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

Dominate implies win rounds in convincing and dominant fashion.

Rd 2 was definitely 10-8 because he crippled him and was on top for 99% of the round while rampage did absolutely nothing. Even with the little offense he got going, that was only a 10-8 simply for the fact that rampage did nothing. The rest however were all debatable rds except for 1. I don’t consider that domination. He won the rounds but rampages’ face didn’t show the wear from his pillow fists (minus the leg).

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Jan 29, 2010 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

I thought it was dominant

he won the rounds convincingly and dominant fashion. you think all the rounds, except the first 2 were debatable, i dont. IMO, he won almost every round. Forrest didn’t beat him up like GSP beat up Fitch, but it still was a dominant performance. Page’s face wasn’t beat up, sure. Do you base a fight on head strikes only? Why not just get doctors to decide winners by looking at both fighters after a fight and decide who has more damage.

two words

Man I seriously had it as follows

Round 1: tito 10-9
Round 2: tito 10-9
Round 3: Forrest 10-9 or 10-8

I see it as a tito win because they rarely score 10-8’s but definitely in my opinion was a 10-8 so I was ok with a draw as well. But that’s an unlikely scenario too.

Sorry man, I saw the Machida fight as a W for Dragon as well and I saw the Randy fight as a clear win no if’s and’s or buts so maybe I just see em different.

I gotta watch it again

my dislike for Tito might’ve had a little to do with it, but i scored it like this:

Rd.1: Forrest 10-9
Rd.2: Forrest 10-9
Rd.3: Forrest 10-8

The first 2 rounds were close, but Forrest did a good job with reversals and was throwing up subs from bottom. He did well with his stand up.

What’s the point in having 10-8 rounds if they’re not gonna score it?? They should score 10-8 Rds more often.

If you go into a fight not knowing how you are going to beat your opponent…..how are you going to beat your opponent? Really though, I don’t think it would matter if he had all the confidence in the world, Lil Nog is simply better and IMO would win 9/10.

Forrest isn’t and never will be the most skilled fighter but he has shown the determination of a champion and elite toughness but for some reason wether it was the loss to Evans or way to much respect shown to Silva when he entered the octagon against Silva something was wrong I thought maybe he was to strung out or hyped up but he did not look like himself nor did he fight like he has. From “never give up” attitude to this shows something is wrong with forrest mentally? Or maybe with the millions he has made he has just became soft?

For all of you guys who think that is a pussy statement, clearly you do not know much about fighting/training . . . When you train with someone, you are giving them access to your most important secrets, like those stories only your best mates know about.

A fighter builds his skill set over a period of time to have a competitive edge. Once this is exposed do you know how long it will take to change, I mean really change to be effective at the elite level?

All Forrest has done here is be honest! Plain and Simple. Lil Nog is a gun & Forrest is acknowledging this . . .

he isnt trying to say he is afraid to fight him, or signed on unwillingly…he just said its a bad matchup style wise..and thats it. Its not like the interview was done after this fight wa already announced and he was making excuses.

i hate how nog wont fight machida , the division should b centered around the belt, not machida bodyguards

i hate more when someone who wont fight for title gets top guys.

forest and his fans were hoping for another easy fight considering some (not me) think tito edged out forrest in the rematch. Also Forrest fought top 10 /p4p best guys, he needs to ease his way back. besides after lil nog, are there any top 10 guys for forrest still?
Lill Nog dont want the belt, he wants to pick easy matchups for himself.
lil nog is really good, but beating him does very little for forrest. . people will write it off like they did rampage and rua
