MMA Quick Quote: Alistair Overeem takes a firm stand in his UFC negotiations (not really)

Overdraft_medium_medium

"I'm not going to discuss the UFC too much with the media. But I will say that when they show me terms I like, I'll sign... Money is important but it isn't everything. There are some conditions they have that I don't like. But like I said, when the terms are right I will sign right away."

Part-time Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem spoke to Fighters Only about the prospect of him ever signing with the world's leading MMA promotion. From the sounds of it, he doesn't seem to thrilled about the idea of showcasing his talents on the sport's biggest stage, but then again, he doesn't really seem to care about showcasing his talents on the sport's second biggest stage either. Do we even care at this point?

Fedor once bet NASA he could survive re-entry without a spacesuit.

On July 19th, 1999, a naked Fedor re-entered the earth's atmosphere, streaking over 14 states and reaching a temperature of 3000 degrees. An embarrassed NASA publically claimed it was a meteor, and still owes him a beer.

Im all for hating on people caught for steriods...

But the last time I looked I don’t think he has ever tested positive, so it’s all speculation is it not? Should his growth raise eyebrows? Hells yes, the dude looks like he could bench press a planet.
I hope he comes stateside so this entire roid situation can get cleared up, guilty or not.

I think his holdup with the UFC is exclusive contracts, makes the most sense.

It is worth one more look, one or two new ones there made me laugh.

But why do people want to save them, they are only a click away when needed anyway. I read people talking about properties and all that. I just simply right click on any image, pic, gif or whatever the case, the first option then I select is view image, then you will get the URL, then simply right click again, copy then go back to your post and select the green tree, paste the URL address and there you go!!

Orcus was saying that you can save them on photobucket or something like that

It would easier to get at the top ones if you had a file of them. I was finding mine on 50 different sites. I don’t think I could find the relevant ones quickly. Anybody who wants to save their own can make their own personal fan post. Title it MY STUFF DON’T TOUCH. You can post into your own fan post and pull it up by touching you profile. Fast as hell. You don’t need rec’s and you’ll never lose your old fan post. That just seems like the easiest way to do it for a dumb ass like me. I’m off work today and rambling on like a crack head, deal with that tkkpal. lol

I know we all are Entitled

to an opinion but the juicing allegations are ridiculous. Young fighters get bigger. Watch as Mousasi, Jon Jones and Rumble will all be much bigger in a few years. Maybe it wont be as significant but with proper diet, and great trainers there is no reason Mousasi wont be a good HW, Rumble a huge MW and Jon Jones a Huge LHW and good sized HW if they so chose to grow into their frames. Age is everything in this case, Alistair was a young man in his small frame and has developed.

Do I think he juices? Possibly. Maybe even more so since he is overseas. Is he massive and does it look a bit fishy… sure. But to constantly hound this guy without ever pissing dirty is getting old. All you Marquardt fans that want to see him getting a title shot, etc do realize that Nate turned dirty a few times before the UFC right? And if you want to talk steroids as a Fighter myself I would love to bring to all of your awareness that illegal substances are very common in this sport. We just dont see it as fans, the drugs are so effective and becoming so much more easy to mask and cycle.

All I’m saying is lets not be so fast to jump on Alistair for the juice until we at least find out he has tested positive. I’d be willing to bet lots of money due to my knowledge of alot of fighters that some of your favorite UFC fighters do use or have used juice in the past.

by AintNoSunshine on Jan 29, 2010 11:11 AM EST reply actions

Well..

Even if he is juicing; just taking steroids wouldn’t produce those types of results, he would have to be CRUSHING the weights to put that kind of size on. I’m inclined to believe he is roiding just cause where would you get the time to train technique AND devote that much effort toward lifting and putting on lean muscle mass? It’s quite a stretch to think he’s done that naturally. But I agree; innocent until proven guilty.

by AintNoSunshine on Jan 29, 2010 11:33 AM EST up reply actions

Not true;

Steroids have been demonized by our society; and it’s true that abusing the substance is going to yield negative results as with drugs/alchohal. On the flip side; roids are used to treat injuries, to combat degenerative virus’s/diseases and when used properly can be very beneficial. If you’re trying to compete in a professional sport, than it’s wrong and it’s an unfair advantage, but if you’re using them for purley cosmetic purposes and using them the right way 6 weeks at a time and not abusing; than I see absolutley no problem with it.

In my life I have lost two friends to steroids one directly and one indirectly. One was purely vanity got juiced, loved his body, loved the people who loved his body and he was trying different types only to mix something and find out he was diabetic have complications and die. And another good friend of mine was obsessive. He juiced… he juiced.. worked out… juiced… worked out.. etc. And before we all knew it he was depressed. He stopped juicing, got abnormally small, starting keeping to himself and one day killed himself. So sure they do have their positives but they also have very heavy negatives as well.

aint no...

Sorry to hear mang. I wouldn’t touch that shit. Got couple friends who do or did use em. Pill version doesn’t seem to affect em too bad, but I definitely see some roid raging with the needle junkies, and the ones that stop using? Well they insta get a gut, goes straight to the belly.

There is a reaon Human growth hormones are now the drug of choice. I don’t know if you guys seen the article on Sylvester Stallone but he says he feels like a new man and the side effects if taken right are very little if any, as I’m sure he is well educated or at least has a well educated private doctor helping him. No matter the average man will not get a doctor like tthe pros or stars would so no matter how you put it there is no guarantee they are receiving the same roids and proper check ups that stars are getting and therefore are fucking with their long term health and for what reason?

Sorry for your friends; it does sound like they were a bit out of control with the substance/abuse. The diabetic situation is an unfortunate accident though; that type of thing could happen with any number of different medications/ drugs.

Overall the negatives of taking steroids are comparable to taking paxil for depression; it’s a hormone; Steroids increase levels of testosterone; while Paxil regulates seratonin. I have been taking Paxil for about a month now; and have had ZERO problems whatsoever; it’s actually helped a lot, BUT Check this out; here’s possible negative side effects on Paxil:

nausea, somnolence, ejaculatory disturbance, other male genital disorders, asthenia, sweating, dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, constipation and tremor. Other side effects include headache, agitation, weight gain, impaired memory and paresthesia.

You look at that list, and you’d think this was a horrendous drug but As with any substance; misuse, abuse, or a negative reaction from your own body can cause all kinds of negative side effects.

But being responsible and using things as instructed, the way they were meant to be used will more than likely end up being more positive than negative (assuming your body doesn’t reject or have an allergic reaction). And again; that type of thing can happen with anything.

My overall point here was, that Steroids themselves have been demonized in our society because of professional sports. In and of themselves they aren’t a bad thing, it’s the users that are either ignorant/abusive in using the Steroid that’s the real problem.

I can’t stand the sound of pencil on paper; it’s literally painful. I can do it if I grind my teeth or plug my ears up but I write in pen all the time to avoid it. Same with Marker on paper; but the worst is marker on cardboard; it’s horrific to my ears and literally makes me cringe. I would take the test, but I just can’t bring myself to shade in those little bubbles with the pencil.

As a strength & conditioning coach

I’m here to tell you that is N O T humanly possible to gain more than 15-20 lbs of muscle per year. And that is under the most ideal conditions (rest, diet, workout regimen, genetics). Let me be clear; this is not my opinion, this is scientific fact and I will take anyone to task over this issue. This is what I do for a living. I have been involved in studies in my graduate work and have read dozens of research reports that support this. And even if you do gain 15-20 lbs of muscle mass in a year, you can’t continue to do it year after year.
He very well could be taking Human Growth Hormone. Currently it is completely undetectable via urine or blood test. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been working on a reliable and inexpensive test but does not have it completed yet. But it was their goal to have one by the 2012 summer olympics.
In short I would bet my house that Overeem is juiced to high heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem with roids right now in mma is the your guys that use stuff that someone gets for them or from some drug dealer. It has excellent results with repairing damaged tissue and with the proper doctor can be highly effective. But when you are just taking random pills it can have many adverse affects. Also prolonged using can result in your body becoming dependant on it. When you stop your body can literally shut down. My younger sister had lupus and was given pretnezone(terrible spelling i know). At the most she was taking 2 pills a day and just by dropping a half a pill a day when she was weening off it affected her greatly. She had no energy and suffered many illnesses. But in the right circumstances it can be highly effective.

If you make an ass out of yourself, there will always be someone to ride you

by bigbadbunbun on Jan 29, 2010 12:29 PM EST up reply actions

Normally..

A typical roid cycle is 6-8 weeks; (though most people ignore this and stay on them for months-years at a time); DURING that period yes, the testicles will experience shrinkage, but afterward when you’re off that 6-8 week cycle things will go back to normal. Again, only abuse (taking longer than 8 weeks at a time) will result in permanent damage. No I do not take roids, but I have done my homework as I’ve often considered it.

AND

the only reason people lose their gains after a cycle is because they don’t research appropriate action for their “off cycle”; you’ve been taking hormones when you take Steroids so naturally when you discontinue the drug the body is going to try and balance itself out. When finishing your cycle an anti-estrogen should continue to be used during your recovery phase because of the fact that your testosterone levels will be very low at this point, and you will have an elevated level of estrogen hormone in your system.

You posted before AintNoSunshine that....

You have seen GSP dropped quite frrequently by Thai-Boxers( Open to correction on exact wording of your post), and that you have trained in the same facilities as UFC fighters or whatever the case, I’m not doubting that for a sec, but what is a guy who knows GSP and other fighters and who has knowledge of some of our favourite fighters as you posted above doing on a MMA site talking to average Joes?? Just wondering??

by tkkpal on Jan 29, 2010 11:22 AM EST up reply actions

Honestly, I love MMA sites. I love these conversations. I have trained for the majority of my fights out of Jackon’s which has been a damn hassle since I have todrive an hour and a half just to get there. When I am not fighting I dont train there as I would rather train at a the gym closer to home which is an affliate gym of Jacksons. I am on here all day checking the news of mma because like most of you I am a die hard fan. I get glossy eyed when I see news like Yvel vs Barry being announced, I get all worked up when these conversations occur and I am able to be a part of it. I am a fan of the NFL but I have never had so much fun conversating with people about the NFL.

And I guess just to clarify what you mentioned in the first sentence if I said GSP was dropped quite frequently what I meant to imply was that dropped substantially more then what people might believe he would be. Its not like each circle he does boom he’s down its just more like I have seen him being clipped on several occasions. Which is why I did bet on Thiago Alves to beat him if Thiago could have kept it standing the entire first round.

GSP doesnt train at Jacksons as much as one may think. Tri-Star is his gym, Greg Jackson is his coach. People from Jackosns usually head out there to help him train or they go to Nate’s gym in Denver.

Thats sounds right but what size of man is the 15-25 pounds taken

I’m sure the research is based on a average weight and height? For example a 185 pound man around 5’11" may only be able to add that but what about a 6’2" 220 pound man? I’m pretty sure that size plays a roll in determining any facts. But regardless it’s not Dana’s call if he can be tested or not as it’s the Athletic commissions so if those happen to be Overeems demands the UFC has no say in that matter.

“I’m not going to discuss the UFC too much with the media.”

“But I will say that when they show me terms I like, I’ll sign…”
(We have to figure out how I can fight with out being tested)

“Money is important but it isn’t everything.”
(Like I said, not having tests are more important)

“There are some conditions they have that I don’t like.”
(I WILL NOT TAKE A DRUG TEST)

But like I said, when the terms are right I will sign right away."
(Good luck figuring that out Dana White)
