UFC 115: Pat Barry vs Gilbert Yvel in the works for June 12

Barry_yvel_medium

Hard-hitting heavyweights Pat Barry and Gilbert Yvel will likely collide at UFC 115 from the General Motors Place in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, on June 12, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

Barry (5-1) was last seen stopping Dutch kickboxer Antoni Hardonk back at UFC 104 last October. In doing so, he collected $120,000 for his efforts, including a "Knockout of the Night" bonus. Turns out, he needed every penny of it.

Barry quickly cashed his winnings, because as he noted after the fight, if the bout with Hardonk had been cancelled for some reason, he would have been evicted from his apartment six days later as he hardly had a dollar to his name.

Now that's a feel good story.

Star-divide

Yvel (36-14), meanwhile, was stopped with a crushing left hook courtesy of Junior dos Santos at UFC 108 in his UFC debut earlier this year. Before succumbing to the explosive hands of Dos Santos, Yvel had won eight of his prior nine bouts, with his last win coming against Pedro Rizzo last summer.

Don't blink -- it could be a painfully quick one to watch! More on this breaking news in a bit.

UFC 115 is expected to feature the third (and hopefully final ) dance between former light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, fresh off their coaching gigs at The Ultimate Fighter 11.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates on this still-developing fight card.

Awesome fight

Barry and Yvel aren’t the best fighters in the world but they are both good strikers so this should be a war and a KO is guaranteed. Good to see that Yvel is getting another chance in the UFC, initially he was only granted a 1 fight license so I’m glad that he’s got more fights set in the UFC.

Yvel's to win.

I like Barry, but the thing is. He’s to short for heavyweight and that will be his downfall in this fight. Yvel will come in stronger this fight (with 0% worry of being taken down) and I see a vicious knockout win late in the first.

Barry is going to knock Yvel out. This kid is a monster on his feet probably the best HW striker.

best ''HW'' striker?

As I stated. His reach and size would probably say otherwise and from what i’ve seen I think the HW striker crown has been passed onto JDS until someone proves otherwise. Iron chin and nasty strikes.

by RayRayJr on Jan 28, 2010 9:27 PM EST up reply actions

easy win for Barry. Yvel is pushing his chin as high up in the air as he can, he’s also too small for HW, Yvel / McSweeney would have been better.

fresh like uhh.

Yvel is 250 and prob about 10-15 pounds bigger than Barry

Although

“Dragon” was already taken, so if you see that name do not be fooled. Mostly my man love for fedor and gsp should always be a dead give away that it’s me.

Good to see the real Dragon back. I didn't like the fake one.

Coming in with a copy-cat name already puts a strike on you. The dude couldn’t come back from that kind of count.

I always laugh when people steal other names

Jackscan and The Dragon haha how pathetic. Just shows that you’ve made it when someone has to steal your name to get some credibility, Dragon and JJ should be proud.

I was looking forward to seeing Yvel in the UFC

but by god did he look TERRIBLE against JDS. I swear he was half asleep. Not expecting much from him from here on in.

Makes total sense

Really good fight, will be fun for both the old and new school fan. Early on Im leaning toward Yvel

Pat looks like twat in that picture!

Good fight tho, leaning with Gilbert simple because i dont like pats picture. okay and because yvel imo. has the better standup.

Sick fight! Huricane all the way!

I don’t think this fight will go past the 1st round. Barrys KO over Hardonk was sick but ive never seen Hardonk ever look impressive .

Yvel takes this one he has fought much better fighters

JDS and Barnett (on the Juice?) are two of his few loses that I can remember for some time and he destroyed a solid fighter in Rizzo before his loss to JDS.

He destroyed (solid?) Rizzo, Barry would have done the same thing, Rizzo hasn’t been good for years. Barry is a better kickboxer i don’t care who Gilbert’s fought or not he is simply not as good as Barry is standing.

fresh like uhh.

by RoBerto. on Jan 29, 2010 12:49 AM EST up reply actions

Roberto Rizzo in my opinion is a better fighter than Hardonk

He isn’t a top ten HW no but he is better than anyone Barry has fought and I believe Yvel would do much the same to Hardonk as he did Rizzo. Barry yeah maybe he would to but I doubt it would be a first rounder Rizzo is much tougher in my mint than Hardonk and it took Barry 2 rounds against Hardonk. 5 or 6 fights under barry’s belt compared to 40+ under Yvels. Honestly I was hoping for a Yvel and Kongo fight but this will do.

That beating he took from barnett was brutal, but his interveiw after was very sincere and humble, making me a fan of the guy. Hope he makes a good showing this time around.

The pic above of Yvel and Barry.

It looks like Yvel is just looking at Barry’s pick and thinking to himself, “Look at the state of this guy posing like that, what a D-bag, I’m gonna KO his ass!!”.

Yvel by KO

Dos Santos taking him out doesn’t mean sh!t; he got caught and really didn’t look like himself in there. I’d take Yvel in a striking match against any MMA HW; even in a rematch with Dos Santos.
