He lost back when he was a novice and a couple of times in Pride
No excuses for the Chonan and Takuse defeats but holding those 2 against him would be like bashing GSP for getting KO’d by Serra or criticising Fedor for his dodgy cut loss and the dodgy decision win over Arona. Andy has learnt from his losses and has improved, becoming a much more well rounded fighter in the process.
Andy is the MMA equivalent to Pacman, both men started their careers as skinny kids and got stopped at the lower weight classes but have since bulked up, put on entertaining and dominating performances against world class opponents and made them look like amateurs in the process. Regardless of past defeats, when they were smaller, less talented and less experienced, they are still seen by many as being the p4p kings of their sports because they have dominated their own weight class and have been able to move up and perform just as well if not even better, proving that regardless of the weight they are going to beat you.
I agree that Vitor will be the best striker that Andy has faced so far and Vitor is the man but to bash Andy’s record or past opponents is laughable. The KOs of Lindland and Franklin were huge and Vitor has faced many quality fighters at MW, LHW and HW but he’s been inconsistent in the past and has never been able to get a dominant run going, whilst the Spider holds the record for most consecutive UFC wins and the joint record for most successful title defences, which he’ll break if he beats Vitor.
I always laugh when people bash either Andy or Vitor, they are both quality fighters and this will be a superb fight. Vitor is a legitimate threat to the belt but Andy will be the best opponent that Vitor has ever faced and has looked unstoppable. I don’t have a bad word to say about either of them and I can’t wait to see them compete against each other, both are class acts and class fighters.

If Vitor had been semi-successful in the big fights maybe your claim could hold some water, but he has only once been succesful on the big stage.
Vitor has fought the best of the best and lost to all of them-Every single one of them, except Wandy! Couture, Chuck Liddel, Tito Ortiz, Allistair Overoids, Dan Henderson and Sakuraba. He has a win over Couture and Wandy. He had to fight Couture 3 times to get a win from him and the only way he got that was a Dr. Stoppage because of a glancing blow to the eyelid! So really his only 1 real credible win is Wandy! Maybe you can give him Franklin also, but he is on the down side of his career.

Good Matchup For Belfort
In the past Vitor always struggled with wrestlers, Sakuraba, Couture, Hendo, Tito, Liddell but matches up well against stand up fighters, Franklin, Wanderlei, Martin, Eastman, Yvel, with him only really losing to Alister who was bigger (and Chuck dropped him but he recovered). I’m not saying he is going to win, cause everyone knows Anderson is a monster, I just think he matches up much better with him than against dominant wrestlers.
Vitor
Should Anderson take this? Yes. But he better watch out for his “showmanship” moves while fighting Vitor. Silva has an iron chin, but Vitor has nasty ko power and could hurt/ko mostly anybody. I see Silva breaking Vitor’s will and ending it in the 3rd or 4th round. If Vitor is to win it will be in the early rounds, by catching Andy and having the ground skills to sub him once hurt.

All I can say really, best fight Anderson has had since Hendo. Vitor is my favorite fighter, has been for over a decade now, so no doubt I will be rooting for him. Can’t go so insane with nuthuggery as to say he is a lock to win by KO, but I do think he poses the most dangerous threat to Silva in the UFC so far. It will be a very entertaining fight, really looking forward to it.

Anderson’s hardest test yet. Vitor is an awesome fighter but I dont think anyone beats AS right now. His timing, precision, and counterstrikes are absolutely unbelievable. AS wins but its gonna be a good fight. Don’t think Andersons time is up like what d locc says. No one can deny how good this guy

This will be a tough fight for Andy and it’d be silly for anyone to overlook Andy but Vitor is by no means a lock for this one like DLocc and BA seem to think. This fight is going to be really close, ultimately I think Andy will be able to last the pace better than Vitor and eventually break him down but this will be a tough test and I’m surprised at so many people writing off Vitor. Can’t wait for this fight, I’ve been wanting to see it for years.
