more to the point, not a true test for Gegard Mousasi
If he doesn’t win easily against this unranked nobody it will be an upset. If King Mo wins Mousasi needs to disapear from the rankings at LHW because a win over Babalu doesn’t cement your place in the top ten. And his fights with unranked bums like Sokojou, Hunt and Goodridge are meaningles. And they better not be pulling that non title fight gash again (not that Muhamed has a chance but still)

really
fedor has wins over hunt , goodridge , and babalu how is it meaningless for a LHW to beat these guys but for a “so called” bad A$$ to beat them he is great?
~
i agree 100% with ziiing!~
that was a very weak comparison, thedragon..

how so??
you say fedor only fights the best, yet he has 3 guys in which fedor has fought listed as being meaningless opponents for mousasi?? please enlighten me on how a HW can beat these guys and it be ok but a LHW to beat them and it be meaningless
~
those fighters listed are the top talent that mousasi has beaten, not fedors top wins..
no comparison.

so
are you willing to say that fedor has “bums” on his record
~
of course!~ every fighter has fought a none competitive fight before..
whats your point?
sidenote; i would never call babalu a ‘bum’..

i didnt call babalu a bum either dragon
and youre calling out the wrong guy on fedor – i dont rate him until he proves himself in the ufc – and his record has more bums on it than an ass lovers porn site, if youre looking for a fedor argument i can’t oblige you, sorry.
Paniczoo reincarnated.
i should add
gegards win over babalu did put him just inside the top 10 but his next two fights (soku and goodridge) dont deserve to keep him there while other top ranked guys are fighting eachother eg. rashad v t silve, lil nog v luiz cane, gegard has been sitting on his laurels and holds his position very tentatively as a top ranked fighter, him winning against muhamed lawal proves very little and a loss to lawal would show that gegard never deserved his current ranking rather than elevating muhamed into the top ten.
Winning the weak ass dream mw tourney (which included 3 fighters making their mma debut and 3 forty year olds!! not to mention how lucky the upckick over the alligator was) and sitting atop the worst LHW division ive ever seen may impress some people but i dont buy into the mousasi hype yet. If he was fighting hendo that would be a test, this match is just more strikeforce/m1 filler

while im at it
check out Mousasi in that video, receding hairline, pudgy face, stupid looking jumper….. he’s becoming more like Fedor every day. Next he’ll have his own rasputin to follow him around too.

SMART MOVE BY GSP. moUSASI'-S HANDS SHOULD HELP MIMICK HARDY'-S BOXING!
WIN/WIN FOR BOTH GSP AND gEGARD!
However weak the mw tourny was
He arguably fought and beat the best guys from it aside from Mayhem and Saku is you want to count him. But Gegard woulda beat them too

gegard’s got no chin. how does he soak up a punch with that little girls chin.
it's all about don frye
he has no chin?
I dunno who or how he’s lost, never looked up his track record but I definately have been impressed by moussasi in last 2 years.
I think its a good matchup for both guys, I give the edge to mousasi due to his experience, but I don’t count out mo because he does have good wrestling, and he can keep it standing, maybe.
Also isn’t this mo’s first time at lhw, how’s the weight cut gonna affect him.
I think mousasi takes it but I wouldn’t be surprised to see mo land the ko blow.

a great fight, hope Gegard is ready for that wrestling prowless of Mo
by Nameless on Jan 26, 2010 1:47 AM EST via mobile reply actions
great fight, these two gentlemen would do well in the UFC especially Gegard he’d easily be a top lets say 7 LHW or me just say that he is a top 7 LHW as far as skill and talent goes, he’s got an incredible physique too he never stops punching.
fresh like uhh.
Not to be a dick, i like most of your comments.
But why is “physique” your favorite word?
Going to church doesnt make you any more Christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.
Most important? Yeah Fedor totally lookds like an underwear model

This is the fight Mo has been asking for, should be a good one....
Mo has more than a punchers chance, and depending how strong his skills are, he could very well stop Gegard. King Mo is a superb natural athlete, with great wrestling and strong natural striking skills. He has shown great killer instinct and supreme confidence in his abilities. If his wrestling is as good as some say, and he can use his athleticism (which I believe he is a better athlete) to combine it with his quickness and throw some strikes, I could see him putting Gegard to sleep, and I mean out cold. Not knocking Mousasi in or underestimating him for that matter, just saying I think Mo has a solid chance.
agreed
I think so too, but mo can’t be taunting with his hands low like his previous fights against mousasi, and he can’t get cocky with wrestling, I think its good but now outstanding. mousasi has good throws also, but like u I could see the ko coming from mo, if the odds are good and this fight happens, I got money on mo.
by Phenomenal Angel on Jan 26, 2010 5:11 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
my mistake
Guess mo is a pretty solid wrestler, I thought he was just a state champ or along the lines.

damn right
Big 12 champ, 3-time U.S. senior national champ, damn near qualified for the 2008 olympics
Goldie: "Michael Jordan-esque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter."
Rogan: "No, no he's not. No."
FUCK QUEEN MO
he shoulda had to fight babalou first at least, or whoever, he dont desrve the shot. but its a fight that puts ass’s in seats thats for sure. gegard wins via murder.
Gegard by TKO in the 2nd
I think King Mo is gonna make it competitive, but i think Gegard is a bit better, and will catch him with something. Not saying that King Mo and Babalu are on the same level wrestling wise. But Gegard had no trouble with Babs clinch
Going to church doesnt make you any more Christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.
Interesting matchup, fun to watch at least!
Should we say “ask and you will recieve” or “be careful what you wish for, you might just get it”?
I like King Mo a lot and he’s a talented dude with a raw athletism which will take him far, but its way too early for him to fight a guy like Mousasi. Mousasi is a better striker and very dangerous of his back for a newbie like King Mo. And god forbid if he somehow ends up on top of King Mo. But a great learning experience i guess…
And yes, King Mo is THAT good of a wrestler. We’re not just talking div I all american, we’re talking world class!
But this is MMA, we’ve seen great wreslers get taken down by guys with no wrestling background and there are many ways to get a wrestler on his back in MMA.
Mousasi by TKO/Sub, R1.

Basically, youre post is similar to mine...
I just happen to have a little more faith in Mo I suppose. I truly believe he has all the potential in the world, he just needs to rise to the occassion and showcase his talents.
As for everyone saying bet the bank on Gegard, aren’t you even curious to see the odds? Id have to disagree with those saying Mo has no chance, and depending how big of an underdog he is, it might be worth a play. Just my two cents.

Dont want to be a dick, but... Really?
We both stated that he’s a great wrestler (you corrected yourself later on) and athlete, but other than that i dont see the similarites?
You think he has a solid chance. I dont.
You think he knock Mousasi out cold. I dont, especially standing!
I even think that there’s a strong possiblity that King Mo will somehow end up on his back getting TKO’ed or give his back up and get choked out.
And im not downplaying King Mo, i like him a lot (as a fighter) but its way to early for him to fight a guy like Mousasi who is a complete and versatile fighter. I feel, opposite to a lot of people on this site, that Mousasi is underrated instead of overrated. Time will tell…

Smile if your gonna tko Mo......

Tito Ortiz: I think Chuck's lost a step, maybe i've lost a step also, but that's what makes the fight so exciting!
What a waste of Mousasis time....
But I will enjoy seeing that arrogant punk queen Mo get knocked out cold.
KO round 1.

Bet the house on Gegard
Mo is going down, gay Dolce glasses and all.

really good match up
I’m no giving this strictly to Gegard in a slaughtering fashion like most of you. I feel this will be a competitive fight that Gegard emerges victorious, but if the odds are +250 or more for Mo I will be throwing down some decent money.

lol competitive
Its gonna be worse than Canseco vs Choi.

Agree again Worby
This isn’t a cakewalk for Mousasi. Mo has tools to win fights as well. This is going to be a better fight than Mousasi/Sobral. Mousasi will be the favorite, but he should be the favorite against most LHW.
I don’t think Mo will win, but this is a legit fight. Mo is a good fighter, a win over him is impressive IMO. Good on Mo for accepting this fight.

Agreed with both of you
Mo is a talented fighter, he has world class wrestling credentials and has good striking as well. Sure he’s relatively untested but the majority of fighters don’t just get thrown to the wolves immediately, they have to take on some lesser names to build up their experience and pad their record before getting the big fights. Saying that, Mo’s opposition Kerr aside hasn’t been that bad and Whitehead and Wiuff were decent tests for a rookie.
I think that this fight has come too early for Mo, I’d have rather seen him take on Soko or Babalu before making the step up to Gegard. He hasn’t been put under pressure in his fights yet and has never faced someone as well rounded as Mousasi. I think that Mo will do better than Soko and Babalu did and a win over him is meaningful for Gegard because King Mo’s one of the top prospects in MMA today but Mousasi should win this one as he has too much experience and skills for a rookie like Mo at this point, despite his athleticism and wrestling background.
I hope this is a title fight though, it was bad enough when the last one was non-title. It’s a cheap tactic to give a champion non-title fights in their weight class in my opinion, not only does it devalue the belt but it shows blatant protectionism and favouritism towards the champion.
"If I could change my name what would it be? Jesus"
Tito Ortiz (seriously...)
Nice post. I agree. I tend to agree on a lot things you write..
Really liked your post on Chuck and Cro Cop too, even though i think you were a little bit harsh on their abilities (today), maybe just to make a point…
Cro Cop would do good at LHW (why oh why doesnt he drop down!) and Chuck will beat Titos ass again and would be a favourite, in my opinion, against Jardine and anyone ranked below.
But yes, still, no more fighting for them pleeeeease. I feel like a overprotective dad watching Chuck fight :(

KILL'EM MOUSASI!!!
mo isnt going to do anything that mousasi hasnt already seen! im expecting a gud fight i say mousasi by subimision o TKO in the 1st o 2nd!
to me, this one is easy
yeah mo will be an underdog…but this is the first fight I may go to vegas for so to speak….King Mo will win, and hopefully Mayhem gets a fight soon, and they are easily one of the best training teams around.
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson, and make an offer for Boldin
