Report: UFC 113 shifted to May 8 in Montreal

Rua-machida_medium
Don't book that flight just yet.

UFC 113 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is reportedly on the move, abandoning a tentative May 1 date for the following Saturday (May 8) according to the good folks over at Cagewriter.

News of a possible change first surfaced when Lyoto Machida, scheduled to defend his light heavyweight title against Mauricio Rua in the night's main event, tweeted that he was a lock for the event -- though a possible change in dates was on the horizon.

In addition, the next big boxing event was being targeted for May 1, as Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley agreed to hook 'em up in Las Vegas that Saturday, prompting UFC president Dana White to inform The Canadian Press about a possible schedule change.

Apparently Mayweather is still "Money" when it comes to pay-per-view buys.

Aside from "The Dragon" vs. "Shogun," UFC 113 will also feature a fantastic welterweight match-up between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley for a chance to claim the next shot at the 170-pound title. Patrick Cote, Marcus Davis and Alan Belcher have also been attached to the event.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more on the still-developing Montreal fight card.

WAR: RUA!!!

He takes this fight……….AGAIN!!!

by MBOW on Jan 21, 2010 9:46 AM EST reply actions

Again???

as i recall this was a close fight in which machida took the UD

as i see this fight going down machida will do what he should have the first time , finish rua
we seen a below average machida in the first fight and the possibly the best shogun we’ve seen yet and rua still was unable to take the belt

this is a touchy subject because it was a UD , IMO if it was a SD it would have cut down alot of the debate
Rua had an excellent gameplan and definately proved he belongs amongst the top LHWs in the world , but face it a punch to the face is more effective than a kick to the leg and machida did land the bigger shots in the fight , not taking anything away from rua at all but the fact is at no point in the fight did he even come close to putting machida in danger , just landed leg and body kicks and busted his lip in the 5th
no on the other hand machida was by no means dominate , but he did land more head shots and had a couple flurries in which could have lead to a finish ala rashad he also nuetralized every takedown attempt and controlled the grappling
i look for machida in this fight to silence all the “haters” much like anderson did after a few bad fights , he was booed coming into the griffin fight , then made short work of him and everyone loved him again he was exciting i say machida by tko no later than the 3rd
just my opinion on the subject tho

worst post ever on mania.

go check your eyes “el dragon” his punches didn’t connect with Rua’s face, infact Rua landed bigger punches, and if u were able to see you’d have recognized that the kicks were the most significant blows landed in the fight. Shogun landed more and better, only heavy shots Machida landed was i think 2 knees to the body.

fresh like uhh.

by RoBerto. on Jan 21, 2010 1:52 PM EST up reply actions

4-1 Shogun and arguably 5-0.

fresh like uhh.

by RoBerto. on Jan 21, 2010 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

hmmm ....

you can argue it all you want, the fact remains machida won that fight 3-2

as for worst post on mania , that’s your opinion , one thing for sure is the rematch will be exciting and both guys will look to win and not by decision!

yeah i’m a machida fan , and to be honest with you when the fight was over and they announced machida winner by UD i was shocked. But if you watch the fight a few times you can see that it was a close fight and could have went 3 -2 either way i realize that everyone is gonna say oh yeah sure shogun this and shogun that but fact is machida won and shogun gets rematch and this time i don’t think he will surprise machida , and i’m willing to bet machida comes in very focused and determined to end this one

by TheDragon on Jan 21, 2010 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

I’ve already watched the fight enough times to see what was going on. If you watch you’ll see Shogun blocking all Lyoto’s punches and countering and finishing with his powerful kicks in almost every exchange, the fact that he was the more active fighter also helped him. Machida had problem standing on his legs in the 4th and 5 rds and i think the 1st went to Shogun no doubt.

fresh like uhh.

yea sorry, mistaked you for someone else.

I was supposed to go, but my sister planned her wedding on that day. Some people are so selfish! lol Kevin and I text everyday, but have never met. When he goes to Ma we’re supposed to meet up. I’m in NY every three weeks or so.

I always forget about the cost of getting there for you guys

Flying is expensive compared to driving. It isn’t worth that much extra, unless it was UFC100 or something.

Actually

Kevin’s on the west cost and I’m on the east.

by MBOW on Jan 21, 2010 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

OK I read it............

Jusy bc a head shot can end it easier that doesn’t mean shit. Because he didn’t end it. Shogun took Machida out of his game and made him limp weeks after the fight. Machida had no clue what to do except throw a punch when Rua came in. I also see fights through my Machida hate glasses!

by MBOW on Jan 21, 2010 12:44 PM EST up reply actions

ok.......

so if you want to go down that road

all you can say is rua kicked at his legs the majority of the fight
how about the fact that machida won the grappling battle?? did shogun once complete a takedown? did he once control machida when they were engaged? NO fact is all he had were kicks

I think they should have made the date a week earlier, becuz i think they might have more ppv buyers. If some people(mma fans) buy the Mayweather fight, i dont know if they will also buy the UFC card the folowing week. IMO they might get more buys if they put the card ahead of the boxing fight. IMO

good point!

especially if mayweather fight turns out great…
but are mma fans, and boxing fans, the same people?

Many are, especially the casual fans

I’m looking forward to both cards anyway. War Machida, hopefully he will perform better this time and shut the critics up for good.

Anderson Silva on why Wand is going to smash Bisping. Get ready to lose your dignity frosnt.

Boston to Montreal flights

are 600 a person 9which is 1200 for me and my wife), I fly cross country for 600 (for 3 of us). The plane tix may be a deal breaker, especially when domestically I can go to any event for a long weekend for less than a flight to canada will cost!

by kevjack115 on Jan 21, 2010 1:54 PM EST reply actions

Kev

$360 from NY. You’re coming down anyway. I can probably even drive you back up to MA. Just trying to think how we can do this. Hit me up before you go to work.
