are the ufc fights just re hashing old talent..bring on the fresh talent..i’ve said this bad joke before, but they are gonna dig up evan tanner and chuck him in the octagon too..

i don't know what the UFC's thinkin' lately.

This Coleman-Couture Fight is just disturbing. I like Randy, but what has Coleman done lately to get anywhere near another Octagon, nevermind headline a card? He outgassed Bonnar, barely.

Now we get to see a 43 year old Renzo (signed to a 6 fight contract) take on Hughes? And I was surprised Hughes was signed last year, nevermind Renzo, lol.

And Tito? I just hope Chuck decapitates him.

So they just force retirement upon all of them?

Get a clue please; yes they’re past their prime but they can still out due 80% of the younger fighters in their respective divisions. Give me a break people; just cause someone gets older doesn’t mean they have to roll over and die. I can think of worse main events (diaz vs guillard anyone?) than watching two established names have a go at it. You dumbass’s act like if it’s not a title fight it’s not entertaining or it’s not worth your time. Don’t watch it then; if you’re that butt hurt over it. Christ…

Good post

I agree…people love to criticize these matchups…try sitting back and enjoying them…you never know what will happen in MMA…that’s what makes it awesome.

AGREE O DAMN!!!

Even though I don’t see title asperations for any of these two, it doesn’t mean that it won’t be a fight for the ages! ( No pun intended )

by MBOW on Jan 21, 2010 9:06 AM EST up reply actions

I am looking forward to both

this matchup and the Couture/Coleman fight. Just because it does not have title implications people think it’s garbage. Same people who complain wrestling and BJJ is boring. Same people when a fighter has a couple losses in a row start talking retirement. It’s not all about the belt, people. I for one just want to see exciting fights and interesting matchups. I do care who the champ is in each division. And I am interested in superfights like AS vs. GSP but I am just as interested in watching the legends go out there and show us what they’ve got. The rest of you need to stick with boxing. I’ts usually some sort of big superfight and they just stand there and punch each other. Perfect.

Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses of my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

I don’t like this Coleman/Couture matchup. I don’t think Coleman has done anything to show he deserves to be fighting Randy (Randy should be fighting better competition). The UFC is putting this fight together as a fight between “legends”. The problem is Couture is still competing against the top guys (war against nog, good fight with brock, win vs vera)…Coleman outlasted Bonnar. Coleman used to be good, long ago. The UFC is marketing his name, not the fighter he is today. I don’t have a problem putting a legends fight together, but not right now for Randy (coming off a win), and not as a headliner. I may be wrong, and this may be a classic battle, but from what I’ve seen of Coleman lately I doubt it.

This is as close as they can come to handing Rnady a gimme win and loosely justifying a shot at the Machida-Rua winner.

O damn

you think Hughes and Renzo can beat 80% of the fighters in their division? Give me a break. You know who else has an established name? Royce and Dan Severn…should they go at it too? If you think Coleman should be a main event right now, you are fuckin nuts.

Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."

Tito interviewing Fedor: "Let me tell you how you feeling right now?"

by Two_Words on Jan 21, 2010 10:31 AM EST up reply actions

And who's beaten Hughes lately?

GSP; Alves and…. o that’s it. Yes I think 80% is about right; the top 5-6 guys could tool them but anywhere below that is fair game. And like I said before I’ve seen worse main events. Most of these people probably said the same GARBAGE (cause that’s about what these cry baby whiner posts amount to) about Couture vs Nog and that turned out to be an excellent fight. You guys are upset because the main event isn’t a title fight or a #1 contender match; that’s it, there’s nothing more to it. Spoiled children attitudes; period.

by O damn he got caught on Jan 21, 2010 12:33 PM EST up reply actions

O Damn

I’m not sayin’ Hughes is done because of his record. I know he’s fought Alves and GSP. I evaluate fighters based on performance, not on record. He barely got by Serra…he won that fight, but I think Serra is a better fighter right now. Serra would beat him 2/3 times. A couple of years ago, I’d give it to Hughes. Hughes just doesnt have the striking needed to compete right now.

Why would I complain about Nog/Randy? They’re both doin well, unlike Coleman. I think that was one of the best fights of the year.

Title fight? lol. you dont know me. i couldnt care less about belts. I look for interesting match-ups. If you like this Coleman match-up, explain why? All you’re doin is insulting others, and sayin “i’ve seen worse”, that’s not really backing up the fight.

Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."

Tito interviewing Fedor: "Let me tell you how you feeling right now?"

by Two_Words on Jan 21, 2010 12:56 PM EST up reply actions

It makes sense

Coleman’s comin off a loss to Rua then a win against Bonnar; Randy’s comin off a loss to Nog then a win against Vera. They’re both old timers in the sport; both great wrestlers, neither guy has a lot of time left and one of them needs to get that carreer back on track. This is the perfect fight to put one of these guys on a two fight win streak to justify setting one up for a #1 contender fight (which everyone will complain about anyway). You may not like it; but that’s the marketing strategy here and while they both still got a name and still got fans and are still able to compete the UFC will use them to sell fights.

Stylistically, I think Couture keeps this standing and box’s Coleman for 3 rds; but honestly if it hits the ground between these two it’s not necessarily gonna be boring. They’re both masters when it comes to wrestling and there could be a lot of interesting transitions/reversals in this fight. You just never know; I’m not counting these guys out, Coleman needs this financially so he’s going to fight his heart out and Randy doesn’t need to fight but he loves the sport so expect the same from him.

One more thing

This does benefit younger up and coming fighters that aren’t well known. You guys are complaining but there really aren’t a lot of big super stars in MMA to the point where one of them can fight in a main event every single UFC. Someone on the undercard is getting their shot to have a good night in front of a lot of people as well.

Couture – Coleman

on a separate card so I can just avoid the event altogether.

Don't agree 100%

I’m still interested in seeing some of the older guys fight eachother. I think Hughes vs. Gracie will be fun to watch. I think Couture will murder Coleman so I’m not as excited for that PLUS it’s a weak main event.

I have been watching MMA for 16 years and it is the best sport on the planet! Most of the people that post in these forums make me furious on a daily basis by being a-holes or just dumb as hell... then I look around and realize ahhhh I'm at home and am just as guilty as all of you idiots.

I will agree there.

I don’t think it should be the main event. Still want to see it on the main card though.

6 Fight Contract???

That’s crazy! I was surprised he got 1 fight. Why?

Two Words

This is what you said “Now we get to see a 43 year old Renzo (signed to a 6 fight contract) take on Hughes? And I was surprised Hughes was signed last year, nevermind Renzo, lol.”

Your surprised they signed Hughes? Did you take your meds today? The greatest WW in mma history. I know GSP will have this title soon but come on. He lost to GSP and Alves who was 6 pounds over at the weigh in and Hughes still took the fight. These guys are the # 1 and #2 in the division. It’s not like Hughes has been fighting give me fights. Give me a break Twowords think before you speak. LOL You suck sir.

by BJPennfan on Jan 21, 2010 9:13 AM EST up reply actions

Did I take my meds? lol

I give Hughes respect, and I do say he is probably the best WW of all time due to his domination of the ww division. This is all in the past! Hughes’ skills has diminished significantly while the rest of the ww division has improved. I just don’t see him competing in this division anymore. You’re right, he’s fought the top 2 guys (and lost), but I don’t see him beating anyone in the top 10 in the ww division. It’s not just that he lost, it’s the way he lost and the fact that he’s not gonna get better. I think Serra would beat him 2 out of 3 times. I was surprised Hughes signed a big contract last year, but atleast now we’ll see how he performs. I don’t think he’ll fight top competition at all.

Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."

Tito interviewing Fedor: "Let me tell you how you feeling right now?"

by Two_Words on Jan 21, 2010 10:26 AM EST up reply actions

ok

Maybe he can’t beat the few top fighters in the div. Don’t you think he has earned a chance to fight some top 10 fighters or whatever other fights the UFC wants? Besides this could be a fun fight to watch. Im getting sick and tired of everyone getting on these guys ass.The ones who built this sport just cause they will no longer hold a belt. I understand not having them as the main event but come on. Just enjoy these fights people. Oh and i think Hughes beats Serra 7 out of 10 fights no problem. Take away that head butt and that fight goes alot different. And im sorry for saying you suck lol. Just getting tired of people bitching about past champs or HOF guys still fighting.

by BJPennfan on Jan 21, 2010 2:00 PM EST up reply actions

I respect Hughes and Renzo

I just don’t understand this match-up. The UFC signs Hughes to a multi-fight contract, and the first fight is against Renzo Gracie?? I can see this match-up happening as the last fight of both of their careers, but both guys signed big contracts. Who are they gonna fight next? I don’t mind this fight as a fight amongst pioneers, but why sign a multi-fight contract? Hughes should be goin up against better competition first, then face the 43 yr old Renzo. I dont think Hughes can hang with the top 10, but (like u said) he deserves his crack. Who is Renzo going to fight after Hughes? Everyone is younger, stronger, better. Why ruin Renzo’s legacy with highlight reels of him gettin knocked out?

Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."

Tito interviewing Fedor: "Let me tell you how you feeling right now?"

by Two_Words on Jan 21, 2010 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

I was mostly talking about Hughes there. It may not make sense but did Hughes Vs Royce make sense? No, it was for fun just enjoy it bro. Now im not sure why they did that 6 figtht deal though. But i wont lose sleep over it. And if guys really don’t want to see this then don’t rent the show. It’s that simple.

Being honest I don’t mind these fights , I just wish they wouldn’t make them main events, these guys do still have a place in the ufc just not at the very top. I know that it’s because of their name value that they are in these positions but I would have had no problem with randy v Coleman or chuck vs Tito 3 as a co main events
