I said over a month ago Brock would return in the summer, probably in Boston. This confirms my “inside info” is very accurate! So many of you doubted me or called me an idiot (which may be true), but I was right (again) on my prediction!

as much as I’m not a big fan, I’m glad he’s back and healthy, he is by far the most dominant HW on the planet today (and I’d love a Fedor/Brock match up).

but under the proposed health care plan, if you are happy with your current plan, NOTHING will change for you… for those of us (including me) that work 2 jobs and dont have health insurance, the proposed plan is a Godsend!
Anyway, back to MMA, I too am glad to see Brock healthy. I too think he would smash Fedor. I too cant wait to see JDS knock him out!!

You should learn about shit before you establish an opinion. We Canadians, with our evil socialized health care, can see any doctor we choose. We can pursue the same choice of treatments Americans can. You have an HMO telling you what doctors you can see, and what treatments you are allowed to have. Nobody dictates to us, but you have insurance and HMO’s dictating to you. Funny.

Next thing you bring up is going to be about death panels now. Point of an interim champ...
The reason why Dana White is making Frank Mir and Shane Carwin fight for an interim belt is because the UFC sign these fighters to three fights a year. So with Lesnar out until the beginning of summer, Carwin and Mir must fight in order to ensure they get all three of their fights this year. Since the winner of this fight is guaranteed a title shot, and at the time the health of Lesnar was still in question, the UFC decided to make the winner the Interim Champion.
They don't sign people to guaranteed numbered fights per year
And nobody said they can’t fight each other. They should be fighting to see who gets to lose to Brock.

as a kid i worked at a tree farm outside of toronto with this other kid selling trees to landscape companys etc – that kid who shall remain nameless turned out to be a 3rd string kicker and one time long snapper for the bills.

Kev Carwin has a lot of questions to answers about his and I agree Mir should win
But you can’t count Carwin out of this one if his ground game is good like his camp say’s and he’s able to keep improving he has a shot. He’s a scary fighter for anyone to face becasue much of his game hasn’t been tested and really is unknown how good, and we all know his KO power is amazing I call his strikes thunder strikes you can hear the crunch and it’s obvious no matter how crappy a fighter he may of fought most of them have decent chins but no chin in MMA will take a full Carwin strike. Mir has the experience and a proven all around game that can win in any area, Carwin we really don’t know yet? I’m pumped for their fight thats for sure. We will find out how good Carwin is are isn’t.

but my dad got taken care of by the Teamsters. He got a “30 and out” plan when he retired. Full Medical and pension. Pretty sweet deal. He earned it.

Did Brock bring his credit cards with him on his hunting trip? Because if he was hunting in America he would have to worry about that. If he got shot during his hunting trip in America, he would have to call 911 and his credit card company to make sure he has enough money to cover a bullet wound. If he got shot in Canada, he would walk into any hospital and be saved. Maybe even get a lolipop on his way out-FREE.

I looked up the tax rates and did some rough calculations based on an income of $50000 (which seems to be about average in both countries). I ignored any potential tax deductions in both cases, including the $10000 basic personal deduction that every Canadian tax payer gets to make (essentially making the first $10000 of your income tax free. I’m assuming the US and A has something similar).
US and A: 11382 in federal and state (california) income tax + 3825 social security & medicare
Canada 11581 in federal and provincial (ontario) income tax + 2850 gov’t pension & unemployment insurance.
Seems like Americans pay a little bit more out of their paychecks than Canadians do. Oh wait, I forgot about Health Premiums. From what I can gather, employee contributions in the US and A average about $2000/year. I know I’m skipping over a lot of the finer points in these calculations, but could the finer points possibly make up that $3775 difference? That extra 7.55% on $50k is seems pretty significant. Too bad the ultra-right wing in the US and A has fooled so many of you with their propaganda.
so apparently california has one of the highest income tax rates in the US, so I guess that’s an unfair comparison. Also I found some studies that have shown that since canada puts more of the burden on the rich and upper middle class than in the us, you’re better off tax-wise in canada if you make about 60k or less and better off in the us tax-wise if you make more than about 60k (not including the added cost of health insurance on top of taxes in the us).

Not being able to choose your own doctor/hospital/pharmacy? Sounds like the stories I’ve heard about American HMOs. I chose the family doctor I wanted. I can go to any hospital I want. And prescriptions aren’t covered by the government (except for seniors), so I’m not even sure why anyone would even try to say that I can’t go to whatever pharmacy I want.

I’ve gone to emergency room with no insurance and no money (back when I was like 20), and had no problem getting treated! They have to treat you regardless, and on another note, it’s not my fault or responsibility that everyone doesn’t have a good job that offers them health insurance! and from what I’ve read, if we went to “universal” care, it would cover like 2% of those without insurance now!

Harvard School of Medicine study found that those without insurance were twice as likely to die in the ER than those with insurance Kev. I took my buddy to the ER last summer with his arm stripped down to the bone and he sat there bleeding for damn near an hour before they treated him….really scary stuff.

I'm far from a fan of benefits and I'm sickened by the idea that people get paid to have children but not all people are poor because they're lazy
Some people work hard but never get the opportunities that others do, others are unable to physically work. Not everyone person who is poor is a lazy parasite, I agree that some are and I don’t blame you for not wanting your wages to go towards someone who can’t be bothered to work. However those who are poor through no fault of their own at least deserve some form of health care.

Canada has better health care according to the WHO and has a more humane system for getting to everyone who NEEDS it (according to me). Sorry I call them how I see them.

He might not be in the top five in the UFC but he’s right behind those guys now. Brock took the belt from him and defended it against Mir who just beat NOG. So brock unified the belt with NOG, Mir, Randy and himself all in control of getting it thats pretty good comp Striker.

couldn’t put on the weight he was use to and the size the HW are getting to yes you are right striker. As MMA grows and evolves fighters will fall like Randy and fighters will rise like Brock. Yes Brock will have to prove over and over like every champion that he deserves the belt and thank god he has got past this and will hopefully prove it. There’s no guarantee he will win every fight but I’m sure he will be amongst the best at the very least two yearsdown the road. Has he earned legendary staus no he has only earned one thing and will have to prove he deserves it down the road. He’s the UFC HW champion.

Do you really think Carwin can beat the other top 5 in the division. His size will help but it’s short lived. Over enough fights his size (and Brock’s) will be able to be countered.
My point is ….Brock and Carwin, and Cain haven;t really proved themselves in the cage yet. They all have good skills but so far they are somewhat interchangable. If Carwin of Cain was given the same fights as Brock, I would be surprised at all if they had the same outcome. If Brock can beat Nog, JDS, and some of the other up-n-commers and maybe finish his trilogy with Mir, then I would be impressed. Until then, I am no more impressed from what he has put out there then a handful of other guys.

His win over Mir is a step in the right direction. But who has Mir really beat that is so great. the Nog one is off the table due to the staph infection. After that , he really hasn’t beaten anyone THAT great.
I haven’t really seen his KO power as he has no KO’s. A couple of TKO’s that had a lot to do with his weight preventing the opponent from escaping but no KO power yet.
He ha improved well but I’m still not going to say he is “the most dominant HW in the world”. He has a LONG way to go to prove that. Until then, he is just another guy in a large group.

Come on Nog was in the hospital 8 days before the fight. I’m surprised he could even warm up. Not a real indictor of Mir’s ability.
As for Mir v. Brock.
There are 3 possibilities:
1) Mazz effected the outcome and Mir didn’t really beat him. By that logic Mir hasn’t REALLY beaten Brock (or Nog) and Brock has only beaten bums: Herring LOL, Randy now, and Mir (by this logic)
2) Mir did get a legit win over a very good Brock and therefore this conversation isn’t important because it proves Brock is not as dominant as everybody claims he is. It was within his last 4 fights.
3) Brock just got caught by an average Mir because he didn’t know who to deal with the sub at that stage in his career. Again not proving that Mir is really that good. Just that Brock was inexperienced.
So is Mir that good and he beat Brock legitimately? OR….is he a lucky guy who got lucky (twice) and therefore Brock hasn’t beaten anybody good at all?
You if the Mir win was valid then Brock isn’t that great and if it it’s invalid then Brock has beat bums and has beens.

In the stand up I give Mir an edge and on the ground I give NOG the edge. Both great fighters but regardless of NOG being sick Mir right now ranked higher. Out of your top five ranked fighters Striker who has faced better competition in their last three fights? Like I said brock will have to prove it again and again that he is the best but until someone takesthe belt from him he remains the best in the UFC.

Hey, love the site. This is my fist post. Don’t any of you think its strange that the Cdn docs say Brock has mono then he goes to the Mayo where they tell him Diverticulities (sp?) and then miraculasly he is healed 2 months later with no signs of it. Seems strange. I’d say the backwards hicks in Cdn were right. Yes I’m Canadian. What do you guys think?

I have never believe any of the crap people spew about Brock. I can tell you from having met him in college that he was huge then and really has just filled out more since then.

I think Bren is referring to Prednisone which is a topical steroid that helps cure itching from poison ivy.

Let me get this straight…he sees his (no doubt expensive) doctors in the US, and they misdiagnose him. He spends a short time in a Canadian hospital, and goes running back to the US. Next they tell him hes got a hole in his intestines and may need surgery, but later the problem miraculously dissapears. The best part of all is he claimed his mind is a powerful thing.

Those who believe are more likely to succeed than those who don’t and I’m not talking religion. From cancer patients to those who were told they would never walk again but believed they could beat what ever they were going through are more likely to beat the odds than those who don’t. First off what brock had was mainly found in old peaple who would have to get the surgery because there bodies were too old to heal themselves so this is not a miracle like beating cancer are being crippled it’s beating the odds that mainly old peaple couldn’t.

Dana doesn’t care since the Canadian health system is not a sponsor. Now if brock had complained that he had accidentally shot himself in the foot and had nothing but an inferior Bud Light to sterilize his wound with, then Dana would have been pissed.

I think Mirs going to win but I’m nearly 50/50 on the fight. Carwin has a lot of questions yeah, but if he answers those questions he could easily be fighting Brock in the summer. I hear he hasn’t shown this or that but he hasn’t shown he’s weak really anywere? If Carwin catches Mir with a strike standing or on the ground the night easily could be over for Mir.

Maybe his ground game will suck if it happens to go there and he has not fought a striker at Mirs level yet either. It’s hard to call because if Carwins ground game is good and gets Mir on his back how will the fight go?
