Brock Lesnar health update on ESPN reveals Summer 2010 return for UFC Heavyweight Champion

Lesnars-back_medium

"It's a miracle!"

Well, that's according to UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, who informed ESPN SportsCenter viewers that he would return to the Octagon in Summer 2010 now that he's completely healed from his recent ailments.

With UFC President Dana White by his side, Lesnar recounted his battle with intestinal diverticulitis, the illness that hospitalized him and forced his withdrawal from the UFC 106 title defense against Shane Carwin scheduled for last November.

But no worries, the devastating illness -- that doctors thought was serious enough to contemplate career-ending colon surgery, has up and vanished thanks to a variety of medical, holistic and mental treatments. Did I mention the word "miracle?" Well, so did Dana and Brock -- several times.

From the champ:

Star-divide

"It's a miracle. The (doctors) were dumbfounded. They couldn't find anything wrong with my stomach. I've had colonoscopys done and CTC scans and there was nothing there."

The UFC recently announced that number one contender Shane Carwin will battle former champion Frank Mir at UFC 111 for the division's interim title. The winner will go on to face Lesnar in "Summer 2010," possibly at the UFC's Boston debut on August 28 to unify the belts.

White also went on record to say that the winner of Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Nogueira at UFC 110 would be next in line for a title shot should the winner of Mir vs. Carwin be unable to compete due to injury or other unforeseen circumstances.

While questions still remain surrounding Lesnar's medical miracle -- like his ability to drop forty pounds and put thirty of them back on in two months, it's still good news that he is definitely returning. There is no question he makes the UFC heavyweight division more competitive and his ability to sell pay-per-views is well, miraculous.

More details on Lesnar's return are sure to emerge in the coming days. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com -- we've got you covered.

Glad that he is getting healthy...

Now I hope he comes back at full strength and gets beat down by JDS or Sub’d by NOG.

Im going to boston in may. I have a connection in boston though, I get court side seats for nothing any time im in the area. It’s funny, OJR texted me, he felt bad putting together a mania trip without me since it’s my “brain child.” It meant a lot to me that he “asked.” OK, my gay moment of the day is done!

Keep Mir-Carwin as a non-title fight

That way they could squeeze an extra main card fight on UFC 111 instead of having a pointless title fight. Real champions don’t want interim belts and should treat them like GSP did after beating Hughes though I bet Carwin and Mir would boast about being the real champion if they won the paper belt again.

I think Mir needs to face NOG if they both win

So many fans believe the only reason Mir won was because of NOG’s health. But by the sounds of it the winner of the Mir fight will get Lesnar. I’m going to be cheering for Carwin I know this much I would rather see Brock face another figther but at the same time it would be good to settle the rubber match.

Mir has to prove he can beat a healthy Nog. Cain and Shane need to fight so we can see which one is over rated the most. And Brock can warm up with GG.

Brock may have took Big Nog's title as p4p toughest man in MMA

That is crazy, supposedly Brock was going to have part of his colon removed and his future looked bleak yet his stomach healed on its own. That man is an animal and I’m amazed that he’s put his weight back on, if he can return at 100% in the summer and smash Mir/Carwin then he is the toughest guy in the sport today. Say what you want about his attitude but Brock Lesnar is a freak of nature, hopefully he continues to dominate (at least before JDS gets his rightful shot).

The roids is BS

Dr. Johnny Benjamin:

I could find absolutely no credible, peer-reviewed medical literature that drew a correlation between anabolic-steroid use and diverticulitis.

Therefore, the Internet pundits and unlicensed medical experts who continue to state, imply and/or insinuate that Brock Lesnar’s serious GI condition is related to past or ongoing anabolic steroid use are both reckless and stating unsubstantiated information as fact.

I have no personal knowledge nor am I aware of any banned-substance use or failed drug screens as they pertain to Lesnar. Therefore, for anyone to claim that by merely looking at him, he or she “knows” that the fighter currently or in the past has taken anabolic steroids is both ludicrous and likely libelous.
