UFC 'Primetime' returns to Spike TV on March 10 for UFC 111 preview of St. Pierre vs Hardy
The UFC has announced the return of "Primetime," a three-part series featuring an in-depth look at the upcoming UFC 111 welterweight title fight between current champion Georges St. Pierre (19-2) and number one contender Dan Hardy (23-6).
The debut episode will air on Wednesday, March 10, at 10:00 pm ET on Spike TV and episodes two and three will air on March 17 and 24, respectively.
St. Pierre is no stranger to the UFC Primetime series. "Rush" was featured during the show's initial run when it was constructed around the colossal UFC 94 welterweight title fight between himself and former welterweight and current lightweight champion BJ Penn back on January 14, 2009.
The Spike TV special garnered 880,000 viewers (.73 rating) in its debut and added another hefty 614,000 viewers (.53 rating) in the replay that immediately followed for a viewing total of 1,494,000. In comparison, last year's highest rated episode of UFC Countdown scored 782,000 viewers.
It's no surprise the network opted to bring the series back to the airwaves -- although it's a bit surprising it wasn't done a little sooner. MMA pundits expected a "Primetime" look at Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir for UFC 100; however, it never came to fruition.
UFC 111 will be the first appearance for St. Pierre in the "Garden State" since his submission loss to Matt Hughes at UFC 50: "War of '04." Since that loss, "Rush" has gone 12-1, and a 2007 stoppage to Matt Serra notwithstanding, has looked nearly invincible in all 13 of his contests.
Aside from avenging his defeat to Hughes at UFC 79 (and then finishing his title aspirations for good at UFC 83), the uber-welterweight also put his stamp of disapproval on BJ Penn (twice), Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves.
In fact, Dan Hardy was likely afforded a title shot because there aren't many competitors in the 170-pound division that haven't already got a crack at the surging Canadian -- and came up short.
That's not to suggest "The Outlaw" isn't deserving. After squeaking past Akihiro Gono in his Octagon debut back at UFC 89, the Nottingham native rattled off three more wins, including two over a pair of the division's burgeoning prospects, Marcus Davis and Mike Swick.
Ironically, Swick was one win away from his turn at facing St. Pierre in a number one contender match against Martin Kampann at UFC 103 back in September; however, the Texan suffered a "Quick" exit from the event after getting dropped on his head during practice.
After "The Hitman" was shot down by Swick substitute Paul "Semtex" Daley on Sept. 19, Hardy was yanked from his UFC 105 bout opposite "Stun Gun" Kim and given the opportunity to elevate himself into title contention with a big win over one of the original Ultimate Fighter stars.
Mission accomplished.

Surprising they’d do it for this fight. Guess they had so many big fights cancelled, they figured they needed to do one for the next title bout I wonder if Machida/Shogun 2 will get one as well. Should be entertaining, the GSP/Penn one was slick.
"Cowards die many times before their deaths,
The valiant never taste of death but once."
Julius Caesar (II, ii, 32-37)
Doubt they would for shogun/machida because they both have limited English and wouldn’t make great television as people wouldn’t want to hear a translator. Personally I wouldn’t mind

wow
I agree that this is the only fight they can do it for, but it’s really kinda boring. We all know how dedicated GSP is and I’m not overly interested in Hardy.
Tito/Chuck primetime would be cool except we have a whole TUF season of them. I’m trying to think of one that I’d rather see, but I really can’t. I love these shows too, just don’t need another GSP one!
primetime with Tito?
He’s gonna have an entire season of TUF to LIE about himself, you think i wanna see him on a primetime show too? I know exactly what he’s gonna say. He’s the most self-absorbed fighter ever.
Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."
Tito interviewing Fedor: "Let me tell you how you feeling right now?"
Well
When you come to think of it this is not that bad a decision as the ufc are still trying to promote this sport in the uk. And having there or one of there best fighters do a primetime show is a good way to do this. I agree they didn’t choose the fight which was going to be the best or most competative match. But they are a company trying to expand there reach through out the world so there not alway going to make the popular choice.

Rashad/Rampage
Now that would be a great primetime idea…get the hype going again after the layoff from the TUF show.

Have you heard what Marquardt is saying about Dan Hardy?
“Georges is just on another level. I honestly don’t even think [Dan Hardy] deserves to be fighting Georges” and “He’s so well rounded, and Dan Hardy’s definitely not”
WANDY RIP
I read it
and he said that Dan punches hard but George is too smart to play that game, he will instantly take Hardy down and Hardy will have nothing to offer on the ground. He also said if George wanted to he could win a stand up battle too. I agree!
I've seen that as well
Bit unneccessary from Nate, it always bugs me when fighters take shots at other people that aren’t even in their weight class. I’d like to hear Hardy’s response, he’s great at ripping people apart verbally and that comment could help push Dan to the next level, which he needs to do if he’s going to be competetive in this fight.
"Wanderlei is focused and well trained...he will easily win this fight, by a large margin and with much better technique."
Anderson Silva on why Wand is going to smash Bisping. Get ready to lose your dignity frosnt.
Out of all the fights coming up
Gsp vs Hardy? Really? I dont care enough to make sure I am able to catch all three. Weird decision I think.
