UFC Quick Quote: Frank Trigg doesn't see anyway Matt Serra can really beat him
"This isn't a guy you can take lightly. This is a guy that really knows what he's doing. He almost beat Matt Hughes. He's been in great wars before. He's a former champion. He knocked out GSP, or (rather) TKO'd GSP. He's a guy that's very tough. He's got some great techniques. He's got some great guillotines. He's got great balance when trying to take him down. It's tough to take him down. He's obviously got a great overhand right. He's very, very good. But I have to agree with you guys. I don't see any way he can really beat me. If I'm always on my toes, always paying attention, and picking my spots and not looking to finish him in the 45 seconds...realizing this is a guy who's gonna be tough to finish. I'm not gonna submit him. I don't have the black belt Renzo Gracie skill that he has in jiu-jitsu, so I'm not gonna be able to submit him. I'm gonna have to wear him down, beat him up, and that's just how it's gonna have work. And I'm okay with that."
-- Frank Trigg made an appearance on Tapout Radio last evening (Jan. 18) to discuss his upcoming bout against seasoned veteran and former UFC welterweight champion, Matt Serra, at UFC 109. Trigg explained that while Serra has several strong points and "really knows what he's doing," "Twinkle Toes" is confident that Serra will be unable to find a way to beat him. Trigg has always been great at hyping fights with his never ending trash talk, but he's failed to back up his words on several occasions. Is the former welterweight top contender correct by saying Serra can't beat him? Or will "Twinkle Toes" fail to back it up once again?

In fairness to Trigg, he’s actually being pretty generous in his praise of Serra. The headline quote is sensational and taken out of context, the intent being to elicit responses. Mission accomplished.

He was asked about dropping down to 155 but he won’t do it. The guy is stocky; says he feels sick/unhealthy at 155 so he’s just gonna have to deal with fighting big guys as long as he keeps at it.

Hey, if you are sitting next to someone who looks nervous on an airplane, or they’re just kind of annoying, try this.
1. Remove your laptop from the briefcase.
2. Open the laptop slowly and carefully.
3. Turn it on, as well as the sound.
4. Make sure that the passenger next to you is looking.
5. Access the Internet.
6. Close your eyes for a few moments, open again and look up to heaven.
7. Take a deep breath and open this site: http://www.myit-media.de/the_end.html
8. Observe the facial expression of the passenger seating next to you.
9. Wait patiently to be arrested, chuckle, and know it was worth it for the sake of comedy.

no, it won’t but they will make the playoffs. there are alot of surprises this year. Isles, Nashville, Coyotes, Avs, Kings so far but LA prob won’t make it. Glad to see Ducks going for the playoffs right now, they would already be top 8 if they played in the eastern conf.
fresh like uhh.
can’t wait for the olympic hockey tournament. I don’t think sweden has much of a chance this year to be honest, Lundqvist is one of the absolute best in the business but just like in Rangers his defencemen won’t be able to help him enough, atleast i don’t think so. Would actually be nice to see my boy Getzlaf give the gold to Canada.
fresh like uhh.
Yeah.
No other team even comes close to Canada, especially on the blue line and the third and fourth lines. That said, it’s just a one-game elimination and anything can happen.
The Russians will have a deadly power play and first two lines, but their depth is nowhere near Canada’s, and the Swedes will be weaker than they were in Turino.
The dark horse team is the USA. They have the best goalie in the league this year in Ryan Miller, and a fast, hungry, hard-working young team. Slovakia could surprise as well. The Czechs and Finns are nothing to worry about.

OJR, Mac …
What’s up boys. Been in Malibu visiting family for a few weeks over Christmas, and spending a lot of time working and writing (little side project I hope to get off the ground). Also, to be honest, I’m kinda burnt out on MMA talk and the idiots that must be waded through to have adult discussion (or at least a worthwhile flame war!).
Montreal is unfortunately out for me, but the invitation still stands for Vancouver in June to y’all. I won’t be on the site that often for the next few months, so I doubt I’ll get in on the pool, since I’m already 0-10 (which would mean I’d only win by a small margin
). Great idea though, you should start up another one soon.

I bet it won’t be Tito/Chuck. The Finale is set for a week later than 115, and they always do the coach’s fight after the Finale.
They have to give us a sweet card for their first appearance here, they know that Vancouver provides one of the highest per capita PPV buys in the world.

Who else is going to be a huge favorite against Wand at MW? After he shreds Bisping he can own whoever else they put in front of him. 3 wins and he’s up for a title shot. A rematch with Vitor might end up putting the brakes on him but the way I see it there’s only 3 guys at MW that could put a beat down on Wand and atm they’re all booked to fight.

I’m never picking Vera against high-level opposition again. The guy seriously lacks combat intelligence and managaes to pull defeat from the jaws of victory against anyone decent. Great kicks, but it’s not enough.

Agreed JJ
Vera had every opportunity to win that fight; I don’t see why he didn’t go back to the body. He can’t throw a lot of kicks out there cause he gives up the TD’s but he could’ve timed another good shot to the ribs and stayed out of the clinch.
That fight wasn’t a blow out; it was close enough for the decision to go either way and Vera only had one significant moment where he dropped Couture and had him hurt. He didn’t take advantage so that’s his own fault. Randy didn’t do a lot of dmg but he controlled the fight; had a nice flurry in Rd 3 and did enough to make the decision a coin toss imo.

and hughes is guest referee and gets KOd too.

I hope they both toss the gameplan out the window.
If the two of them can get into a word of wars maybe they’ll both forget their gameplans and keep this one standing. Mind you even with these two keep it standing I don’t see it being too entertaining.
I believe both fighters wanna prove they still have it in them so they’ll come out strong both be gassed by the third and the fight be declared a draw!

Just read Spike will be showing a couple prelims for 109. Danzig vs. Buchholz, and Guillard vs. Torres. Not sure if this is old news, but good to see this trend keeping up.
yep...love that trend...it does bug though that those are the first fights they show on the PPV if time permits...
"He is gonna find out who Ken Shamrock is, was, and is now!"
-Ken Shamrock
I know what you mean
Seems a lot of the time we end up getting 3 or 4 free on Spike so when they look to fit in an extra on PPV, it’s inevitably one we’ve already seen, as they aren’t going to show a decision fight on either Spike or PPV unless it’s live. But it’s undoubtedly better to see fights twice than not at all, even if they aren’t the best fights we’ve ever seen.
This ought to be entertaining however. Serra isnt a slouch striking and Trigg has achieved alot in the MMA world. I would love to see Serra’s BJJ win this fight… Although Serra will never be on top again he will always provide me the greatest MMA memory in dismantling GSP
same!
as much as i would love to see serra knock triggs head into the 3rd row i want to see his bjj. its top of the food chain bjj but he seems to ahve trouble utilzing it against bigger guys. but with trigg i dont think he’ll have a problem

If Serra wins I would like to see him face Hughes once more they had a good battle last time.

Serra for the win
He will always be known as the guy who knocked out GSP. He will always be used as an example when trying illustrate the unpredictability of mma. It’s much better than to be remembered as the guy got spinning back fisted twice by Shonie Carter. Didn’t he also win against BJ Penn? Like Rua won against Machida? For some, the answer is yes.
