Good fights

Wandi’s beatdowns of Rampage are classic and Andy’s KO of Newton was sick. Add to that an exciting Gomi fight, Chuck KO’g (pre) Overroids and Shogun-Randleman and you have a sick night of fights.

"Wanderlei is focused and well trained...he will easily win this fight, by a large margin and with much better technique."

Anderson Silva on why Wand is going to smash Bisping. Get ready to lose your dignity frosnt.

Agreed

Gomi vs Krazy Horse was pretty good gomi has some decent wrestling not sure if its ufc standard though

Gomi has been doing Combat Wrestling (as I understand it, it’s basically wrestling with punches) longer than MMA. He’s no GSP or anything but definitely solid. Th

That’s what makes him vs. BJ a lot more exciting of a prospect than BJ vs. Aoki.

For those that are just seeing Gomi or the 1st time.....

For years Gomi was the best LW on Earth (bJ wasnt fighting at LW)

Gomi’-s run was wanderlie’-esque! He was destroying top fighters.

I will NEVER forget his fights with Kawajiri,Azeredo,Jean Silva, Jens Pulver, Krazy Horse, Mach, Ishida. THESE were some of my favorite fights in the history of combat sports!

In his Prime, he was easily one of the most entertaining fighters to watch!

For me, Pride was the Golden age of mma! 90% of my favorite (best fighters) fighters, made their bones in Pride! Best, and Biggest fights in the history of the sport. The best mma cards ever put tog5eth6er were all pride cards! It would take 3 UFC ppv main cards to equal a Pride Shockwave event! by far th6e best tournaments in the history of the sport!

I am jealous of those who have never seen Pride, and are now starting to familiarize themselves with Pride…you guys are in for a treat!

I miss pride..

Watching a 400 pound guy fight a 100 and something pound guy. And the little guy would run circles tire out the big guy then tko their ass once their bagged with some ground and pound..

They could pretty much show any Wanderlei fight and it would be exciting

Wanderlei Silva vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson"
Chuck Liddell vs. Alistair Overeem
Takanori Gomi vs. Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett
Anderson Silva vs. Carlos Newton
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Kevin Randleman

Sir how could you possibly leave out Shogun Rua vs Lil Nog

Probly the best fight in the history of Pride. Hendo vs any Nog, wand vs hendo I, Barnett-Nog I, Any saku fight, which was foty of 06 IMO, every rivalry. Just awesomeness. But i don’t think people will experience the entire thing – the theatrics, the eccentric personalities and grandiose entrances are as big a part of pride as the fights themselves.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Jan 15, 2010 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

The fights I have listed are the fights they are having tonight

Rua fights will be awsome too man from the time he beat Jackson to his second KO over Overeem!! I don’t know if he had another three round fight beside Lil NOG since his Jackson fight if he did I can’t remember it. Speaking of his past opponets Were is Arona at now days last I heard he was talking like he wanted to come to the UFC? He had some great battles himself.

Dana duznt want arona in the UFC!

he’s 2 much lay n pray & boring! i dont no if he has seen gray maynard!

by d*locc on Jan 15, 2010 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

funnily enough he's talking to the UFC right now and claims that's...

where he’ll land. He injured himself fighting on that Bitteti card and has been healing up. As far as d*locc, he may be boring but he arguably beat Fedor back in RINGS. His style may not be pleasant but it gets the job done baby.

ya 1 of the craziest fights ever even tho i h8 it!

It was a gr8 fight but i h8 seeing Wand get beat like that! CroCop was the 1st 1 to beat his ass in 5 years! classic fight tho

by d*locc on Jan 15, 2010 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

Fedor Nog I for fedor fans was probly historical

No one gave him a shot at dethroning Big Nog. I think that’s one of the biggest passing of the torch type fights in MMA history. Then later on everyone declared Cro Cop to be the next annointed one. ah the memories.

They re-edited it to make Fedor get knocked out by Zulu

Why would Pride waste money to pay off Zulu and have him take a dive? He would have gotten destroyed anyways.

I was just joking on my re-edit comment. But I guarentee you won’t see any Fedor clips in the highlights

by Bob Lawblah on Jan 15, 2010 4:46 PM EST reply actions

I think we will

Just think about how pissed Finklestein is that th UFC can show Fedor clips(I can see Dana grinning right now) and support the UFC. Not only that they could use Fedor counter programming against Fedor LOL.

The official list of potential superstars on the show includes Dan Henderson, the Nogueiras, and a host of others. conspicous by his absence was Pride star and current Strikeforce standout Fedor Emelianenko. When asked about potential Fedor fights a spokesman said “In regards to Fedor, I’m told you never know who might show up.”

by Puck Head on Jan 15, 2010 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

I dont see why they would be that pissed.

It’s not like the UFC has footage of Fedor getting KOd.

by captainStevo on Jan 15, 2010 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

Making money off of Fedor will piss off M1 no doubt

The fact that M1 and SF do not have the right to show any of Fedors Pride fights guarantee is a piss off. Now imagine how pissed they are going to be if the UFC counter programs the next event Fedor is in with classic Pride Fedor fights LOL They will choose wisely what fights to show. I would bet they would put on the Cro Cop fight, randleman fight and maybe even one of the NOG fights. Trust me M1 will be pissed that the UFC is making money off of Fedor and they have no control or do they make any profit for the UFC showing their poster boy on Spike.

by Puck Head on Jan 15, 2010 5:46 PM EST up reply actions

Wouldn;t that only draw attention to the fact that Fedor is fighting live at the same time? And help build on his drawing power for future SF shows? I think it’d be very dumb of the UFC to do that.

No the counter programming doesn't do sh^t regardless

Anybody thats a MMA fan will watch the live especially free over a replay counter program. Fedor is not a big draw to the casual american fans regardless. If the UFC is showing Fedor fights and peaple are watching his old fights over his live fight most likely they have no clue his live fight is going on LOL. As far as drawing power to his next fight no, showing one or two of Fedors fights will not do sh^t for promoting SF events. It’s not liek one or two fights of him beating the LHW randleman or going the distance against CC will make Fedor look good to the newer fans that see CC as weak agaisnt todays fighter. And those that know the past will watch Fedor and respect Fedor regardless?

Yeah some good memories thats for sure

Head stomps, knees to the head of a grounded opponent, open elavator entrance, tournament, huge size advantages and of coarse many of todays legends. Pride had a mystigue of it’s own that was special.

I cant w8 till they show Sakuraba vs. Rampage

that fight was so awesome! Sakuraba getting like triple power bombed then almost thrown out of the ring! lol

by d*locc on Jan 15, 2010 5:37 PM EST up reply actions

I will be surprised if we see Fedor at all.

Do you really think the UFC is going to promote the best heavywieght in the world? Fedor’s fights will never see the light of day under the Zuffa banner.

You absolutely cannot deny the absolute control the UFC has over the casual fan. It’s the same reason I can’t watch any mma with casual fans, the absolute ignorance that spews from the mouths of the uneducated astounds me.

I love the UFC and I dearly love mma and my heart is heavy from the Pride days.

by frizzkills on Jan 15, 2010 7:14 PM EST reply actions

if they smart they would show fedor

i don’t care for him but he is a big name in mma, thus if they have the rights to air his pride fights since they own pride then i say go for it they can only win, and it can only help the casual mma fan learn who fedor is , i really doubt SF will be able to promote him very well having only footage from rodgers
would be very good for ratings just my opinion tho

by TheDragon on Jan 15, 2010 7:27 PM EST reply actions

And really showing a hand few of Fedors fights very small % of the Pride fights they will show will not promote

Fedor or SF like some think. Three or four fights will not promote Fedor anymore than he already is, think about it Fedor against CC going to decision? Do you think fans that don’t know Fedor but know CC from just his UFC fights will think Fedors something special and at the same time pleaseing the harcore fan because they showed a Fedor fight. Even him beating NOG it went to decision, or him fighting Randleman everybody talks about the slam and to many casual fans will appear lucky that he pulled off the sub. It will be interesting to see what the UFC does. And you know the UFC wants to please the fans so I think they will try and be the nice guys selectively.

obviously you have no business sense. you think it would be smart to promote the competitions golden boy on your show? duh

brock lesnar owns fedor's soul

I'd think so

We get TUF, UFC Wired (dunno if they’tr new or what though) and UFC unleashed as well but some of those are on Setanta. Do the UK still get Setanta? I know the Republic of Irish do

by IrishKev on Jan 16, 2010 8:49 AM EST reply actions

Setanta went bust

so ESPN now shows UFC, unleashed etc. Havn’t seen any mention of them showing the Pride stuff but I hope they do!

by BritishBulldog on Jan 16, 2010 9:20 AM EST up reply actions

Pride was for the fans!

Yes they had a few boring fights but the way Pride officials try to make sure there was never any time wasted, the pace of fights was ridiculous compared to US mma! Just look at the way Shogun would come after guys in the first round and only twice did not finish the fight in the first round. Even with the first round being ten minutes, that is pretty impressive. 2 out of his 12 wins in Pride were finish in the first round! Not even Fedor had that kind of success. I will never forget how he beat the living crap outta Rampage, poor Rampage never had a chance against the Muay-Thai clinch.
