Even though I already know the out-come, I still watch over and over cause that’s when the best fights were imo and I still get exicited to see them. People who have never seen these fights are gonna be blown away by some of the footage from Pride, it’s awesome!! War Pride!!

lol....It's crazy tho.!!

It’s different when people put on a couple of stone in weight, but that amount of pure muscle, I dunno?? I wonder what his body %v fat is?? He’s a beast for sure, even looking like a skinny mo -fo he was having his way with Chuck imo, defending the knees well and looked better in the stand up till he got dropped. And on another note, Dana sounded like his balls hadn’t dropped yet in that clip….lol

Do u know when this fight happened?

And he use to be a serious weight cutter too in order to get down there. Regardless, the dana commentary during that tourney was priceless. Especially when he was pissed off and clowning on his boy for not following the gameplan against page. Ah the old days when Pride use to play him like a fiddle. He sure got them back though.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Jan 13, 2010 8:20 AM EST up reply actions

NNR: I will never forget Dana'-s commentary during chuck'-s Pride fights! PRICELESS!!

Dana blamed the entire beating that Rampage put on chuck, on chuck not implementing the Master Gameplan: “Leg Kicks”. i HAVE NEVER HEARD LEG KICKS MENTIONED SO MAN TIMES IN A FIGHT! tO THIS DAY, NO ONE has dominated chuck the way Rampage whooped his ass in that fight…and during the entire fight, you hear Dana crying about Chuck not throwing leg kicks. when the fock does chuck throw leg kicks anyway?

Alistar has alwayws been one bad mofo…but back in the PRIDE days, he was like Dennis Kang. H^e used to beat people’-s ass, but mentally break and lose to top fighters. He always had the skills of a top fighter, but he was mentally weak until about 2007. Thats when it all started to come together for him. His size game is over rated. He was a lot skinnier in 2003, but that is 7 years ago. I dont think its unheard of for a world class athlete to grow that much in 7 years! I wont slander him until he fails a drug test!

When does this best of Pride show air? I wont watch it, cause Ii own every single Pride event that ever happened on DVD, but I do want to get my friends to watch it…so they can educate themselves. PRIDE was the best thing mma ever produced, so every fan of the sport should watch it! Most of tthe best and biggest fights in the history of the sport h6appened in a Pride ring! Til this day, there is no bigger fight then Fedor/Cro Cop and the Fedor/Nog trilogy! Wandy,Gomi’-s title reigns were legendary! The Grand Prix’-s were historic! It would take 3 UFC ppv main cards to equal 1 Pride card! Best mma ever!

LOL you don't think it's unheard of to grow that much?

Damn straight it is, and he is 23 there supposed to be in his physical prime. I don’t care how much weight he cut or not cause it wasn’t pure muscle he took away he just had a tiny bone structure. It’s like saying Forrest Griffin could have been the next Alistair Overeem if he hit the weights.

I’ve seen all Pride fights, amazing stuff used to sit with a buddy and watch over and over again, was already the biggest fan of Rampage back when this tourney happened in 2003.

you think he was mental weak back then? sure he was but it was because he got tired in all of his fights and he said “those brazilians never get tired” which was true and probably had something with them using blood doping, not hard to figure out what happened after then and why Alistair got more confident.

fresh like uhh.

John

to this day i get nervous watching Nog-Fedor I as if i still hope that maybe Nog pulls it out. Seriously i can’t think of a single person who had Fedor comin into that fight. It should be great reliving all the best pride fights. Good memories.

Roberto – i don’t think we’ll ever convince each other about Megareem’s possible roiding. I think all we can do is wait to see if he gets popped or if the commissions adopt Olympic drug testing protocols. Still though do you prefer the current or former version of the man. That’s why i say – everyone should be allowed to roid as much or as little as they want. Fighting is a technical skill, it takes more than strength and athleticism. Roids can optimize your body but they won’t teach you how to fight.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Jan 13, 2010 12:28 PM EST up reply actions

actually i’ve never had a problem with Overeem he’s always been a fighter i enjoy watching because of his standup skill, loved the fact that he participated in this years K-1 WGP Finals it made the event that much better. I would like to see better testing however and until then i’ll give my opinion on what i think.

Agreed

Until Overroids passes a drugs test I’m going to continue slandering him with Lester’s nickname. Steroids can kill you not to mention they help cheats to succeed in sport, I’ll take a clean sport over one full of cheats anyday.

He was HUGE when he beat BUentello for the title, and he passed his test!

Im with NNR! Let them all roid. Roids dont win a fight!

by John G. on Jan 13, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

i don't agree with roids won't win fights

They are banned in every sport becuase they are proven to help you build body mass and gain an advantage athletically. Ni ifs ands are butts about it john and NNR. Imagine NOG on roids fuck 270LB faster stronger NOG!! Or Fedor imagine a 250+ faster stronger Fedor!! WOW let all do roids LOL are none.

by Puck Head on Jan 13, 2010 6:10 PM EST up reply actions

Of course roids win fights, they also kill you

Roids are for cheats, like Puck said they give guys a size advantage. They make it easier to recover from injuries and help you work out, plus the extra muscle can give you a dangerous advantage in power. All legalising roids in MMA will achieve is more young men dying at an early age and throw away all of the good work done to make MMA mainstream. They’re banned from all other legitimate sports and legalising them would be disastrous for the health and reputation of the fighters and the sport.

And Overroids was a lot smaller when he beat Buentello than he is now, he doesn’t even look like the same person. It’s no coincidence that since he bulked up he’s not once defended the SF title or fought in the US.

"Wanderlei is focused and well trained...he will easily win this fight, by a large margin and with much better technique."

Dana's commentary was classic

I got the 2003 Pride MW GP on DVD for £30, easily the best MMA purchase that I’ve ever made. Even in 2010 the UFC DVDs can’t match the production values of Pride, not to mention how exciting those fights were (Randleman-Sakaraba excluded). I hope this Pride show gets put on ESPN or at least someone posts it online.

Dana’s commentary in that event was priceless. To be fair leg kicking Rampage is a decent strategy as Rampage never checks leg kicks, but I’ve never seen Chuck throw a leg kick in his life either. Serves Dana right for overhyping Chuck and making a ridiculous bet, listening to him whilst Rampage destroys Chuck is one of the funniest things that has ever happened in MMA. I like Chuck and Rampage has been pissing me off lately but that was a classic beatdown that I’ll never get bored of watching.

The fact that the UFC gave Chuck KO’g the SF HW champion away for free on youtube pretty much sums up what sort of fights are going to be chosen.

Wandy should rule the amount of fights aired

Pretty much all his fights are classics win or lose he brings it every fight. From one fight to tournaments he has done it all. I know many judge a fighter on their record but those that judge a fighter by the quality of battles they have been in none compare to Wandy. In my opinion the greatest fighter ever based on MMA wars. Some might judge Wandy by his UFC fights alone wich all have been great battles that he has been on the losing end more than normal but the man has been fighting for two decades from a lot of the greatest fights in Bare knuckle fights in Brasil to Pride to the UFC and he’s still going!? No man has fought as many high calibure fighters as Wandy has wich is why his 35-10 MMA record or around there doesn’t tell the entire story.

SO SO SO many fights to choose from

The Wandy v Page fights, Shogun v Page, Cro Cop v Nog, Cro Cop v Fedor, Fedor v Nog, Page v Arona, Sakuraba v Wandy, Shogun v Lil Nog, Hendo v Wandy, Sokoudju v Arona, Frey v Akiyama, Rickson Gracie v Takada (just to show many of the UFC American fans the Gracie JJ pioneer in Japan), Gomi v Sakurai, and so many more. They could seriously run one of these a month for an entire year and not hit all the great fights. Can’t wait, usually have to watch these on a small computer moniter.

Prepare for a UFC is better than all other promos commercial for 30 minutes.

It will be just like Unleashed. They will feature the guys that they have under contract and show losses of Overeem, Hendo, etc. Do you really think they will show Diaz (the impending SF 170 champ beating their new investment (Gomi)? Even though that is one of the greatest fights in HISTORY.

They will show Fedor getting slammed on his head, and Gomi mopping up some guy.

Really though, it should be a 1 hour loop of Rampage slamming Arona, peppered with Wanderlei going Godzilla in Japan.

It's yet to be seen Dana was a huge Pride fan

I can see them showing all Fedor fights during a SF major event with Fedor in it LOL but you know they are going to try and showcase the guys they have signed more than the guys SF has signed. And that alone is many Pride fights. But you think they will have to show the greatest battles regardless. I wonder how pissed Finklestein is that the UFC gets to make money off of Fedor if they want? You know Dana knows this will piss M1 off so you would think it’s almost a guarantee?
