UFC Fight Night 21: Vladimir Matyushenko vs Eliot Marshall on tap for March 21
Vladimir Matyushenko (23-4) and Eliot Marshall (8-1) have been booked by the promotion for a light heavyweight showdown at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 21 event scheduled for March 21 in Denver, Colorado.
"The Janitor" cleaned up Mirko "Cro Cop's" training partner, Igor Pokrajac, via unanimous decision at UFC 103, picking up his tenth win in his last 11 fights. His only loss during that stretch came under the Affliction Banner at the hands of top rated light heavyweight contender, Antonio Rogerio Noguiera.
The Belarus native was all set to challenge Steve Cantwell at the Jan. 2 UFC 108 event until "The Robot" malfunctioned and was forced to withdraw from the card due to an undisclosed illness.
Out of the frying pan and into "The Fire."
The TUF 8 alum was unable to make it out of the semifinals on the Spike TV reality show, but wasted little time in proving his worth in the light heavyweight division with three straight wins over Jules Bruchez, Vinny Magalhaes and Jason Brilz.
Now he gets a chance to try and mop up some stiffer competition this March.
UFC Fight Night 21 will feature light heavyweights Brandon Vera and Jon Jones in an exciting match-up that could determine the fate of "Bones" 205-pound contendership status. In addition, lightweights Clay "The Carpenter" Guida and Sean "The Muscle Shark" Sherk are in talks for a potential throwdown as are warring welterweights John "Doomsday" Howard and Anthony "Rumble" Johnson.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates on the March 21 event as they develop.

during last nights broadcast, interview with Randy, joe kept saying that his fight against Coleman was potentially for a shot at the title…anyone else find this completely absurd?? randy didnt beat vera, beat coleman and get a shot? and coleman getting a title shot is laughable….why does the ufc do these things…
I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was.
The whole thing is a disgrace to be honest
We don’t need to see Shogun-Coleman III after how disastrous the first 2 fights were and the old men would get killed against Shogun and Machida. The only thing that saved Coleman from a vicious beating last time was Shogun’s poor conditioning and now that he’s fully fit and has improved his cardio he’d destroy him in seconds.

I underestimated the deadly skills of one of the greatest HWs in the world, Frank Mir. I wrote that because I lost a bet but honestly, he really did impress me. I'm well on the Frank wagon

does he really bring that much though?
and i mean his record is 17-10..hardly amazing

He is Rogan’s hero. Honestly, I’m shocked that he didn’t get an immediate title shot after the Vera fight.
The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful
If he hadn't have clearly lost that fight and there was no Shogun-Machida rematch then he probabaly would have

I will never watch the UFC again, If either of these old men get title shots before:
Shogun
Rogerio
Anderson
Rampage (with win over rashad)
I am fed up with the UFC making a mockery of the UFC titles by giving title shots to undeserving fighters
I'm surprised they didn't....
…stop the Vera fight half way through and tell Randy “thats enough, your getting a tiltle shot”

The Janitor
Man I want to see him fight bigger name opponents, he has been a good fighter for a long time now. And yes, Randy/Coleman for a title is completely absurd. Both Shogun and Machida would wax the floor with either of these old men. Can you imagine if it was Shogun/Coleman III….I just threw up in my mouth a little
To be fair Eliot is pretty good
He beat Jason Brilz, who is a decent LHW, so I’d have him ranked at about Cantwell’s level, so it makes sense that the Janitor is booked to face a guy on that level again instead of taking a step up in competition. The winner of this fight should get a decent name in their next fight, maybe someone like Hamill or the Couture-Coleman loser.

I wasn't knocking Elliot
I know he is good, but really he is the one who is stepping up here not Matyushenko. Vladimir has fought world class competition in Lil Nog (twice), Tito, Arlovski and Pedro Rizzo. Vladimir is not getting any younger, and I would just like to see him fighting bigger names at this point given his resume that all. Elliot will have his time, I would have liked to see him fight Cantwell, as David W-S said that is about where I rank him. I personally would have rather seen Vlady fight Hammil or Vera, someone a little more well known. If he wins this fight, Im sure that will happen though

Randy is captain America, dude is big business
he’s lost alot of fights, but other than finances, I can’t think why the f*ck else they keep him around, other than that he annoyingly keeps winning fights.
