First off, I haven't read any threads at all, and just finished watching the event, so my opinions are before reading yours! The fight of the night was obvious to me, and DUnham /Escuadero was it, and to go along with that Dunham should have gotten sub of night too to bring his payday to a really nice number!
As much as a fan I am of Nick Diaz, I've never been much of a fan of Nate! That "main event" last night was a joke to me. It was sloppy, I think I've seen more technical strikes in a street fight between two nerds in a school yard! To even consider Gray Maynard as next in line to fight BJ Penn is about as good match making as setting me up for a title shot against GSP. What's the fucking point?!
God damn, what a waste of my time, even that fight that Simpson won wasn't overly great. The UFC has almost set these fight nights up as a step above WEC and a step below PPV's, except I enjoyed the WEC event sun. more than I did this. I know it's (for me at least) about great fights and NOT "star power" or "names," but come on, I think a fight between me and OJR would be more exciting than the main event last night.
Whether it be Edgar or Maynard, the UFC will have a hard time convincing me that that is an actual fight, never mind a main event! BJ needs to either step up in weight and fight Semtex, Kos or even Swick or the UFC has to get someone who is at least close to his level... but where? Throw Gomi at him right off the bat? IMO, thats a better solution to Gray "i think I have stand up" Maynard or Frankie "I can't beat Maynard" Edgar. Weak event, sorry!
