WEC 46: "Varner vs. Henderson" which took place from the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California, on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, finished the night with a whopping 10,027 in attendance for an estimated live gate of $550,000, according to WEC General Manager Reed Harris.
The official numbers will be released by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) later this week, but as they stand, WEC 46 ranks as the third biggest draw in the history of the promotion.
Only WEC 41 (13,027 / $815,415) and WEC 38 (12,682 / $738,855) have done better.
Interestingly enough, all three events were held at the Arco Arena -- in the backyard of the participating "California Kid" Urijah Faber.
Former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner voiced his displeasure with the promotion's favoritism and marketing push behind the one-time featherweight deity; however, Faber appears to have earned his spot on all three occasions.
The event saw Varner cough up his 155-pound strap to the out-of-nowhere Ben Henderson after "C-4" imploded under a "Smooth" guillotine in round three of their main event. Former WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown also got back to his winning ways by taking a bite out of Anthony "Cheesesteak" Morrison.
