Everyone is misinterpreting what he’s saying. It’s a joke in reference to the fact that obviously white people tend to have it easier than non-whites because of PRIVILEGE.

How is it that so many people have missed that? He doesn’t say anything about pride. The context isn’t there for that interpretation. He says he’s happy because of his health and wealth – those are commodities in the same that that privilege is. Thus, to acknowledge something like that is the opposite of racism. It’s just more self-deprecating humor from Forrest.

If this were in fact a serious comment, I would be offended. That’s why I couldn’t disagree more with Two_words. Anybody who’s ready to toe the line regarding issues of race to defend white pride clearly has something a little wrong with them. Although let me make it explicit that I in no way found what Forrest said to be an issue of white pride. On another note, I find it funny how white people we’ll try to complain and argue about what they can and can’t do. It always ends up coming off like “Are you being serious? You’re complaining about being white in America??” Considering white people who complain about white rights have never actually tried being a minority, they should probably just keep their mouth shut, and realize as Forrest put it, that they have it good.. That being said, I would never condone any real or serious prejudice against any race, including white people. I’m just stating that it always sounds ignorant and unrealistic when a white person complains about being white in America.. Numerous studies by Sociology profs from reputable Colleges in the States have shown that, in terms of getting ahead, it’s still an advantage to be white (For the states). Now regarding what Forrest said, As I stated early, this was a joke about race, not a racist joke. I would assume his joke was meant to describe that white people don’t face any of the same racism or prejudice as other minorities do, in which case, he’s right, but still not a funny joke. Now, if he was in fact joking about white pride (which he clearly wasn’t) then I would find it mildly offensive.. Regardless, I find the joke to be lame. Someone said that same joke when I was at a comedy club and it was met with awkward silence because everyone was like: “Well, what do you mean by that?” I think it’s pretty clear, not racist but just not funny.

It would seem a lot of other people in this thread have already said pretty much exactly what I’ve said, so yah, to sum it up: presumably and hopefully not about white pride, just about white priviledge. In which case it was self-depricating, but not funny, in my personal oppinion.

I’m not in any way referring to what Forrest actually said, but am rather focusing on the thread comments saying that “white pride” is something that white people should be entitled to w. out any scrutiny. What you need to know is that, regardless of your feelings, other people are entitled to their sensitivities regarding issues of race and especially the term or ideal of white pride. Just because you’re dismissive of it and it holds no relevance to you, does not necessarily make it so for others. Another example is that of the confederate flag, people claim that it is a representation of their history and culture, but clearly when viewed by someone of slave descendance it represents something evil and horrible beyond comprehension. What you may not know, is that there are still many people living in America alone that have been severely affected for the worse by WW2, Neo Nazis, the KKK, and issues of Civil Rights. So while in your microcosm that means nothing, in reality that has a negative association for many people, and therefore should not be treated lightly. That is, if you care about making society overall less divisive, and more unified with a shared respect for one another.. If you don’t care, then you should persist with your attitude.. And if everyone needs to “relax” I ask you a question: What’s easier: To forget the fact that your entire family was murdered based on the ideology of “white pride”? Or for you avoid saying things that could understandably invoke some bad memories and hard feelings for other people? You think other people should grow a thick skin so you can say whatever you want?? The world revolves around you?? I don’t think so, you’ve got to readjust your thinking.
