The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 set for March 31 debut

Theultimatefighter7_tuf_medium

Spike TV has announced that The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Season 11 will debut on March 31, 2010, and feature a 16-man roster of middleweights vying for a "six-figure contract" under the tutelage of former TUF Coaches and bitter rivals Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

Both fighters are coming off back-to-back losses and are a far cry from where they were in their respective careers during their initial run as TUF Coaches.

"The Iceman" was steering the ship opposite Randy Couture in Season 1 of the Spike TV reality show. Liddell went on to defeat "The Natural" at UFC 52 during his storied run as UFC light heavyweight champion.

Ortiz on the other hand took over the reigns for Season 3 against Ken Shamrock. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" defeated Shammy at UFC 61 to claim his fourth straight victory inside the Octagon.

Star-divide

Liddell and Ortiz have met twice under the Zuffa banner, with the icy one claiming a TKO stoppage in both encounters. While most of the heat that surrounded their feud has long since dissipated, expect a new rivalry to emerge after squaring off in Season 11 of TUF.

The middleweight cast should provide a refreshing change from the cardio-challenged heavyweights that "fought" on Season 10. Stay tuned for an announcement to reveal the cast members in the coming weeks.

Liddell and Ortiz will fight for a third time at the conclusion of the show -- but does anyone want to pay for the completion of their trilogy? Or should the two legends light up the airwaves via Spike TV?

Keep it locked in to MMAmania.com for more information and details on TUF 11 as they become available.

Will Tito fight again before this show?

Not interested in waiting anymore….they obviously didn’t read my FanPost on what’s wrong with TUF. Dana needs to slow this train down a bit to re-organize.

Tito needs to rematch fight one more time, yes!

I’m F’in tired of waiting, he needs to get time in the octagon to feel comfortable again. Real Fighting time is the only way he’s gonna be able to come back.
I strongly dislike this matchup and think it’s total bs, it does absolutely nothing for either of the fighters, It’s quite embarrassing actually how the UFC are selling both guys out. I don’t think it’s smart of Tito to fight Chuck again and i sincerely hope this will be Chuck’s last fight even if he wins and Tito’s last if he loses.

unless the "co" main event

Features GSP or a title defense its gotta be free on TV no?

Chuck won the 1st two. & I tend to think they will be pretty mild mannered on the show. Chuck doesn’t get too worked up (ignore the koscheck win). As much of a ‘entertainer’ tito is, I don’t see it becoming even close to the ‘black on black crime’ of 09.

by daniel worby on Dec 8, 2009 10:32 AM EST via mobile reply actions

agreed

these guys should fight in the finale live on spike. you know for a fact dana is puttin this as a pay per view, but no way should it be. chuck is over the hill and tito was never ever any good

the way i see it is

So we pay hoping Chuck wins right? Say he does, we’re all on here the next day saying “No surprise now he’s 3 & 0 against him”. Or we witness tito best Chuck & come on here sunday/monday to say “well that’s cause Chuck is too old & he’s still 2&1 now”.
Does that leave us with a part 4? A best of 5? Does it prove or solve anything?

Kinda irrelevant match up I feel.

by daniel worby on Dec 8, 2009 11:07 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Disgraceful Idea!!!!!!!!!!

Chuck is done!!! Can’t take a punch anymore and Dana even said he will never fight in the UFC again….Tito hasn’t beaten anyone since Vitor(I thought he lost that fight) and has already lost to Chuck 2 times, in blow-out fights….This fight means nothing, so what if they don’t like each other, and even if Tito wins, what does that mean? He beat an over the hill Chuck? Thisis like Rich Frankiln fighting Anderson Sliva 3 yrs from now, when both guys have gotten old…..I used to support Dana and still think the UFC puts on the best fights but I’m starting to lose my respect for Dana, Chuck wants to fight but my thing is shouldn’t the fans get fights they want? Guys how many of you are want to see this fight ?

not me and good post

I have watched every episode of TUF and have a few seasons on DVD.

I will be more than happy to miss this one. If tito vs chuck head lines a ppv I can’t even imagine what the buy in will be. BOOOOOOOOO!

Most of us need to be reminded what we already know before we need to be taught a new lesson

by Bigger Zino on Dec 8, 2009 10:42 AM EST up reply actions

There are two reasons for this

The first is to bring star power to TUF. I’m sure Dana is aware that his pet project has sucked for about 6 consecutive seasons now, so he’s getting the two biggest mainstream fighters he has to coach and fight. That alone will keep the ratings high and the dollars flowing.

Second, Tito completely lacks the skill set to beat Chuck. He can’t get the takedown, and he damn sure can’t stand with Chuck. Dana wants Chuck to go out a winner, so this will give him a final win over a big-name opponent. Then he can retire.

Agree...

Chuch has star power especially after Dancing w/ Stars the show.

But he has zero entertainment/character for TV. At least Ken Shamrock could blow his stack and Tito could bait him. THis is going to be very dull. And it is being cheapend with frequency. Christman (or other holiday – picked mine) would lose it’s appeal if it was twice a year.

Still boring.

but that would be too much aswell. I think Kimbo would have a good chance too lol, Chuck is so old and slow and Kimbo is just a beast physically.

by RoBerto. on Dec 8, 2009 12:21 PM EST up reply actions

I am and always will be a huge chuck fan, but I really don’t want to see this, if tito wins we will never here the end of it, I can hear him now going on about how his injuries stopped him winning the first two fights. I so wanted chuck to go out with a win but in my opinion it too risky. Guess it ain’t just great boxers who can’t let go

by eagzy on Dec 8, 2009 10:49 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Trilogy?

I thought a trilogy was only warranted when both fighters traded wins and a third fight would decide the winner? What a joke. No need to see this mess. I would much rather see Liddell or Tito fight active LHW’s than see this again. I suppose this is milking the golden cow again, however, since Liddell clearly beat Tito twice already, who really cares about this fight?

The show should always be about talent and quality.

The fact that they’ve put on 10 seasons says it all. Man, One Tree Hill started 2003 and they’re only on their 7th season, hahah. Seriously the fighters they’re gonna bring on the show are gonna suck donkeys.

they better at least go back to the old format of having to win to get on the show. this past season was brutal and that was a big reason

by Newfie3 on Dec 8, 2009 11:02 AM EST reply actions

Exactly. Make em fight to get on. Less fake celebrities more real talent. The personalities will come along trust me. You don’t need to look specifically for a junie or a kimbo. It’ll just happen.

No one would’ve guessed meathead would be so insane. No one would’ve guessed big baby to explode on meathead like that. Plus we already had 2 retards spitting out 1 liners @ themselves over and over like a pill string doll.

by daniel worby on Dec 8, 2009 11:20 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

I think the real problem here..

Why everyone has lately been complaining about everything even remotely related to UFC is the all the dissapointments lately. I’m meaning the countless injuries and bad judging. UFC had a good streak before this fall and fans got used to it. Now everybody’s acting like this is the end of the world. I bet it doesn’t even matter who the coaches are in TUF since everybody is already in a mood to complain. I think having these old vets as coaches is a great idea. Rampage vs Evans would’ve probably happened before the A-Team thing if they didn’t coach.

by lavis on Dec 8, 2009 11:15 AM EST reply actions

damn u lavis are u trying to make me happy?!?

Just kidding, you bring up some valid points, but I think its deeper then just the bad judges, & stops etc.

by daniel worby on Dec 8, 2009 11:23 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Real Problem is

That the UFC is starting to look like a joke, I mean i’m having a hard time knowing what to expect these days and to even take the whole thing serious. you just sit around and wait for next bad thing to happen, and it seems to me like the UFC can’t or won’t do anything about it to the point where it’s getting embarrassing. There’s just too much up in the air at every event, the judges are absolutely horrible, you never know who’s won the fight until you hear the score even if you saw who the clear winner was. Too much of an entertainment/money factor that plays in if you ask me.

by RoBerto. on Dec 8, 2009 11:49 AM EST up reply actions

Not great

TUF has just come off it’s (arguably) least satisfying season…. Doing something fresh would of been great (even gasp wait at least a year until the next series) but throwing two “names” at the show isn’t going to please many people right now.

We all moan… but we’re still going to watch it.

It’s just a shame the timing is so bad. Look at Chuck and Titos records since their last fight… Chucks had other distractions and has never been full of personallity anyway. Tito on the other hand will now have ANOTHER long break between fights.
I’m not impressed, but i’m hoping to be happily surprised.

by Wet Nightmare on Dec 8, 2009 11:58 AM EST reply actions

Well, I know Tito actually did a great job coaching when he was on TUF. And I think Chuck did too if I remember right, but that was a long time ago. Maybe a season with the two of them coaching won’t be a total waste of time. Unless Tito goes into ‘hype the fight’ mode too often.

Good times and riches and son of a bitches
I've seen more than I can recall.

by P-Dub on Dec 8, 2009 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly

Tito and Chuck both did excellent jobs as coaches in past series, that’s why I’m a little more hopeful as they won’t make the show about the coaches but instead about the fighters. I’m happy that a fight or title that I care about isn’t being held up for the reality show and realistically Tito and Chuck should only be fighting each other before they retire as they’re no longer up to the standard required to be a top LHW. As long as that fight doesn’t main event a PPV and isn’t overhyped while this series produces good fighters and fights then I’m not going to complain.

"I’ll continue to watch their events and I hope they’ll (Zuffa) tune in to my fights in Strikeforce. After all, I’m a true fan of our fantastic sport and would love only to see MMA continue to grow."
Dan Henderson, classy.

"The reality is that I pushed him into signing that deal... I wanted him to s**t or get off the pot."
Dana White, classless.

by David W-S on Dec 8, 2009 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

I would have liked to see them stray from the formula and shake it up as well. There is nothing that says they need fighter/coaches, how about 32 fighters, double up the fights per week and drop the drama queens, something different. I’ll watch, but man, really disappointed in another Tito/Chuck fight. I love Liddell, but his last few fights have been embarassing and huge letdowns. They’ll build this up to be something different, but it won’t be.

by Slim473 on Dec 8, 2009 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Bring back the PHYSICAL CHALLENGES

i was hating on them last week but its better than watching the fighters sit around the house.

This will hopefully show some quality coaching as both fighters were good coaches in the past and hopefully the fighters will benefit and put on better fights so we’ll benefit.

and I might eb the only one in the world who wants ot see this fight. I hope Tito wins and pisses off everybody

dude.....i am

Of course.

Tito for the win is the only way to roll.

by RoBerto. on Dec 8, 2009 12:24 PM EST up reply actions

UFC is on the fall

and i think its because of all the cards every month when the PPVs were like seperated by 2 to 3 months we could see more main event worthy fighter on cards it would give the fighters more time to rest before putting on some boring card

when there were time separating these cards there were more title fights i remember when almost evry card had a title fight but now i always see main events with like Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva dont get me wrong that was a great card and an awesome fight but i expect more title fights for a main event…..

and for TUF i think that dana is bringing in more drama celebs rather than good fighters..GO back to the original TUF days!!!!!!!

by LBC_Style on Dec 8, 2009 12:48 PM EST reply actions

I agree but....

It’s not the UFC’s fault that Brock, Silva and Machida are all injured

by Robert(1) on Dec 8, 2009 1:17 PM EST up reply actions

yeah

but waiting a few months between each card would give silva and machida time to heal and could put them on a main event earlier…sorry my last post was confusing
