Yes! Diego Sanchez is different
Understatement of the year, perhaps:
"If you want to beat the best, you have to fight the best. I suppose I’ve wanted to fight him since back when he beat Matt Hughes for the [welterweight] title. I always wanted to train with B.J., but it never happened. I suppose it was for a reason. It’s a good thing we never got together and trained. Now, we’re going to go to war. It’s going to be like chess.... I’m rigged differently. In my mind, I’m going to beat whoever I’m in the cage with. You’ve got to believe in yourself. I believe it’s my time. Everything in my career built up to this moment. Everything feels right."
Can "Nightmare" will himself to victory over BJ Penn at UFC 107 on Dec. 12 or is he delusional ... or both?

florian finished stevenson quickly in the first, penn was rolling around with him and his blood until the 4th minute of the second.. oh waii..
It doesn't matter who Diego's finished or not.
Because Diego won’t ever get finished himself, and he will probably not finish BJ but win a decision. I have money on it, u should too ‘cause that’s what’s gonna happen!
Lock Prediction of the year says that – Kongo TKO’s Mir in the 1st round
Sanchez becomes the new LW champ with a unanimous decision.
uh oh Robert doesnt all around agree with his Spanish counterpart ;)
Just bugging. I honestly have a very hard time with all 3 of the main fights. My brain is saying Penn, Kongo, Florian, but I feel Mur could steal it if he’s able to whether the early flurry & get it to the ground where he should be able to finish it relatively easily.
With guida I just feel he’s slated to get a run @ the covenant title as well, & “I gotta feeling” (sorry), that this is it. I’m looking for a split decision that leans in Clay’s favor.
With the big main event (man after last few main events I’m really looking forward to this), I have Penn. I just feel he’s too much, & although fighters look great on the up & up, just like with GSP, once they make it to the show they’re usually quickly exposed as ‘not ready’, though I tend to feel its just the champs are freaks of nature in the UFC.

I think that this is the best lightweight titkle fighgt in the history of the UFC LW division.
This will be a great fight and Diego is a great contender because he will come to actually fight, unlike Florian who was scared to fight bJ, and chose to try to implement a a gameplan that his skill set isnt suited to execute. Where did Florian and greg Jackson get the idea that Florians sissy wrestling was good enough to press BJ against the cage and get the takedown?what a joke of a gameplan that was. At least Diego will not be afraid and actually take the fight to BJ.
In the end, I dont think it matters because I will continue to bet money on BJ, unless I see him lose at lightweight with my own two eyes., but diego is the perfect opponent to make this a war…but in the end, the title is staying around BJ’s waist!
I don’t know why everyone is assuming BJ is going to walk through Diego. Diego has the skill set to win this fight. He has a diverse stand-up game, excellent wrestling, and his BJJ is every bit as good as Penn’s. I’m not saying that Diego definitely will win, but he has a better chance than any LW in the UFC right now. I’ve always been a Diego fan and really want to see him pull this one out.
Good times and riches and son of a bitches
I've seen more than I can recall.
Pdub
I know I love you man. . .but WTF? Diego’s BJJ is every bit as good as Penn’s? Oh, did he win a world title after 3 years of training? I think not. Can he put his leg behind his head without help from his hands? I think not. Can he jump out of a pool? You get the idea. . .
I think Diego’s a viable opponent for Penn, but I agree with John G. Great fight but ultimately BJ will remain Champion.
Diego had a BJJ black belt, then went to Saulo Ribeiro, started over from scratch and earned a black belt from one of the most respected trainers in the world. and Ribeiro doesn’t hand out belts like Halloween candy, like some others do. And I bet Diego could jump out of a pool if he tried and carry even bigger rocks underwater. And I’ve given lots of singles to chicks who can put both legs behind their head ;).
Good times and riches and son of a bitches
I've seen more than I can recall.
Let em think what they want P-Dub
to hell with all the Diego haters, we know what’s up and that’s all that matters. I just can’t wait to hear crickets on this site come Sunday morning when Diego is carrying the strap. Anyone that thinks Diego’s BJJ is inferior to anyone is sorely underestimating this kid’s skills. I know that Penn is a stud, and i’m looking forward to seeing what he does the first time he cracks Diego in the jaw, and Diego keeps coming forward. This is gonna be awesome!
seriously?
P-dub, I know you hate BJ, but be real here. Either you know NOTHING about BJJ, or you’re blind. BJ’s BJJ is better than anyone in the division, period. Diego has solid BJJ, and he’s a legit black belt, but he’s not even close to BJ in that one department. Wrestling and cardio I’d give to Sanchez, but wrestling only by a narrow margin. BJJ and striking goes to BJ. IMO the only chance Diego has to win this fight is to push a crazy paceand tire BJ out. But he’d better do it before the end of the third round, because if not BJ takes it. My predicition is BJ by unanimous decision 48-47. If not then it’ll BJ by submission, probably a RNC. It’s going to be interesting to see Diego in a 5 round fight. Can he keep that pace for that long? Also, he’s never had a fight that was even close to this big. Nerves might play a factor, but I doubt it.

Good Robert
then we’re on the same page, Im not sure about Diego winning a decision to be honest even if he does win the fight it’s still up to the judges to decide the winner. Rewatched Shogun vs Machida last night lol, you could make the argument that Shogun won all 5 rounds but somehow he still didn’t get the decision.
ur right!
bj will bitch slap this yoga retard!!!

Penn vs Penn
As always in LW, only BJ can beat BJ. If Penn has his head on right and takes the fight seriously, he’s got all the tools to dismantle Sanchez. But if he’s been lazy or is unmotivated for the fight, Diego has the tools necessary to capitialize on that. I hate Penn, but when he’s on his game, he really is a prodigy. But he’s prone to laziness and overconfidence and only training half-heartedly.
ya know...
We’ve been hearing this whole “Penn is lazy” thing forever. The last time he looked tired or gassed was GSP2, but that wasn’t necessarily from being lazy, he was facing a MUCH bigger and stronger guy, which would tire anyone out, no matter how hard they trained. Every other fight he has had since Hughes2 at UFC 63, he has dominated, and never gassed at all. And look at the list: Pulver, Stevenson, Sherk, Florian…all these guys are cardio machines, and BJ FINISHED all of them, and never once got tired. That includes 3 full rounds against Sherk, and almost 4 full rounds with Flo. Maybe its about time we put this whole laziness thing to rest, hmmm??
agreed
i don’t post that much, and if you’ve ever seen my posts you’ll know that i’m pro-Sanchez all the way, but I totally agree that the BJ laziness theory has no credibility whatsoever. I saw him gas in a fight he was winning only ONE time (Hughes) and it’s never happened since then. He’ll have more than enough conditioning for this fight, and he has no issues with the pressure of the main stage.
tap or snap is dilusional
Since when does finishing fights decides how a fighter is going to perform in his next fight? i.e. Tyson Griffin
BJ Fans Just Dont know when to quit
Diego Sanchez is gonna have a reach advantage , movement is smoother then bjs , if u watch any of the hype promos for the fight , you can tell bj isn’t confident in his own ability to beat diego , everything he says leans toward him believing his reign will be over , that he gets to go and have fun one last time etc… listen to bj , he seems to lack alot of confidence
Half the people who are picking bj probly dont even like him
They just know what about to happen this satyrday

I concur.
I’m the furthest thing from a bk Penn fan, but I cannot deny his extreme talent, and fluent execution.

Lol
I’m going to remember this post after Saturday night and I have a feeling it’s going to seem gloriously stupid in retrospect.
I think when someone is like BJ in these interviews and he doesn’t have to hype himself and convince himself he’s going to win, THAT is the mark of true confidence…

What BJ are you talking about?
BJ has never lacked self-cofindence in his skills and WILL DESTROY Dirty!
what?
“I feel like I’ve already won” yeah, that sounds like a lack of confidence… oh no, actually thats the opposite of what that is!
If anyone sounds lacking in confidence it’s Diego, talking about swinging his sword on the battle field for hours… excuse me? Diego is talking a hella sh*t about nothing. There is a reason that he has to do all that foaming at the mouth stuff, because those are the lengths that he has to go to, to make himself believe he can win, behind the spit and the mean face is pure fear my friend.
I appreciate that anything can happen in a fight, but what is Diego better at then BJ? Kicks probably, I think Diego should work the body and the legs, BJ has a head like a rock, he’ll never knock him out, and he should stay away from anything on the ground, so kicks might be a risk, takedowns etc. yer he can come out and be relentless etc. but Bj can be a beast himself, and I think that Diego will find himself a bit lost when BJ doesn’t just turtle up under pressure. If he can stay the F*ck away from BJ and pepper him from a distance the he may just about avoid the counter punches. but 25 minutes is a long time to keep a distance. and if Diego goes charging in getting up close in range of Bj’s boxing and take downs, then it’s game over Diego.
In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

Nice Analysis Fat Kick.
I can’t stand all that ‘YES YES YES!!’ bs that diego does on his entrance, it’s almost as annoying as Kongo’s entrance walk.
I"m no Ned Flanders punk!!
fat kick said it all
& his ‘yes! Yes! Yes!’ Is more annoying than Kongo’s Manny Ramirez impersonation after a homerun IMO.
But definitely could be argued either way. Their probs the top 2. Though I could be forgetting someone…

Sanchez is seriously disturbed
I’d bet my last dime there’s something clinicly wrong with that dude.
how could you say no chance
This is a very competative match up. I can easily see it going either way. I agree that BJ dosnt sound as confident as he has in the past. I’m very excited to see this fight! YES! YES! YES!

Oh man
That picture does Diego no justice. I’ll admit that he’s nutty, but the guy is a good fighter. I don’t know he can beat BJ necessarily, but he certainly has a chance.
Well that picture above right there just shows that he's a freak on a leash.
Someone’s gonna send the hounds out for BJ. Humans > dogs…

Great fight!
Too close to call, imo! Diego is strong, relentless and a little nutty! BJ has mad skills! And he’s gonna have to put them to good use in this fight! He needs to take Diego out early! We know who’s gonna push the pace in this fight and the longer it lasts, the more likely Diego’s cardio makes the difference! If it goes past the fourth, I think Diego takes it! But, I’ll be pulling for Baby J!

Diego Over-Hyped?
So will reost this question to you guys… Is it just me or does it seem in the advertising that the UFC is ready for a changing of the guard at LW? The tv ads, the fight ‘talks’, are all revolved around Diego. Do you think that the UFC thinks Diego is more marketable and could be the future of the LW division? Has BJ already told Dana that he is done and is going out on his back? Or are they trying to just legitimize Diego as a true contendor to the belt, because it seems as tho the odds makers don’t see Diego as a much of a threat. The sites i was looking at BJ is more of a favorite in Vegas than Kenny is. Am I the only one that sees this favoritism? Usually the UFC relies on BJ’s great comments and cocky attitude to blow up a fight, and this time it is all about the weirdo Sanchez.
It's just like the Florian fight
when you heard “I want BJ’s belt!!” eleventy jillion times. Gotta make people think the challenger has a chance, even if it’s a slight one.

Hmmmm.....
Hard to say, Sig! I hope not! I hope BJ sticks around for awile! But, he might be a little tired of the hardcore cardio and strength training. He used to not even train like others in the UFC! He’s been training pretty hard for a while now, ever since he caught all that flak about his cardio! He might be wanting to teach full time and drop outta competition. He’s already proved his greatness!

are ur posts serious grzegorz?
U think the diaz of UFC is slated for title contention after bk Penn loses? N you follow that with bk Penn going back to 170 to avenge a loss to Hughes? What are you talking about? Penn Hughes2 isn’t happening. Hughes won’t do it. Penn wouldn’t waste his time. & Penn is going to beat Diego even tho I hate them both. & diaz wouldn’t even have passed Melvin if it were for the over cockiness of the young warrior. His boxing was completely exposing the longer lankier Diaz. A mistake that Penn nor Diego would ever make, is the only reason the waste of talent that is Melvin, lost.

sorry. THX golddiggah.
His post made me stupider in my reply. Lol
Hughes Penn doesn’t need to happen. Is there anyone out there that thinks Hughes would be best Penn this deep in his career?
There can’t be. Penn has a better chance beating GSP.in a part 3 then of Hughes beating Penn.

Is that the new burger king penn chiken sandwich? With the peaking phase sauce?
by DrewMoney$$$ on Dec 8, 2009 12:58 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Penn vs Hughes 3
ought to happen. I think Hughes should drop to 155 and challenge Penn for the title. It’d be the biggest fight left for either of them and a chance to settle their 1-1 score.
bj dones`t need to win
just like randy or chuck or dan henderson they don`t need to fight to prove their greatness they just do it cause they can`t get enough it diego who needs to win this fight not bj
I’m not a huge BJ fan (especially at 170) but I don’t see him having too many dificulties with Dirty D. I’m not sure of any aspect that Diego is better than Penn at. If someone knows, please enlighten me.
Myth: Three Americans die every year from rabies. Fact: Four Americans die every year die from rabies.
Give me a goddamn break...
Penn has a GRANITE chin & there is NO way Diego will sub him. So all these people hating on BJ saying he will get destroyed please back up how this is going to happen….
Diego couldn’t finish Guida or Stevenson..
His ONLY chance is a decision and BJ’s gas tank might not be as good as Diegos but he has shown lately it’s good enough to dominate the 1st 3 rounds…
?
Is Diego 23 – 2 against heavier (WW) fighters?
by TapedUpPair on Dec 7, 2009 11:10 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Facts to ponder
So Diego has victories over: florian, guida, Stevenson, parisyan, and Diaz? He only lost one fight when he was healthy and won 24? undefeated at 155? I wonder what ((Adam G)) thinks???
by TapedUpPair on Dec 8, 2009 12:02 AM EST via mobile reply actions
sorry tapeduppair
bj has wins over two gracies, hughes, gomi, sherk, florian, this list is endless…
bj fought at heavier weight classes than sanchez..errrrrrr..come on man.
he’s only lost to champs..and his lone LW loss to pulver was verry controversial…and he murdered him after that. has deigo even been in a ufc title match before?? nope.
"i just want to be known as the greatest of all time, is that too much to ask?" - BJ Penn.
Mr. O. Plato
Not sure that Diego gets to choose to be in Championship fights… I’m guessing (using belfort as an example) somewhat in the timing among other things. But I see your point
Now, if you were to point out that two of Penn’s losses were to GSP and one to hugues I would fully respect ur errrr statement :). I have posted earlier on another thread that I don’t thing Diego will take this fight, I guess it surprises me that many are not considering Sanchez’s body of work…albeit, no championship fights (errrr.) LOL
by TapedUpPair on Dec 8, 2009 5:04 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

haha, no prob T.U.P
i just feel like you are awarded title shots based on achievement in response to the belfort rebuttal. i give it to deigo he has demolished some upper level B fighters..maybe even lower tier A fighters..deigo has skills i just think he doesn’t have the same set of skills as bj. there is a reason deigo is in this title match though.
AND STILL THE UNDISPUTED LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!……

Go look up some more of your facts for us.
Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.
how do i not kno what im talking about?
You provide no proof & your posts are always just you leeching on to others ideas & adding in the odd “I agree MacArthur” etc, & hoping they take you unde their wings & place you in the elite club of posters.
Want proof? Go back to the STRIKEFORCE evolution threads (you know the ones where only like 6 ppl comment & your not one of em cause your a poser). Ya you’ll see my name, discussing the league your trying to jump behind now because I didn’t include you in the pro STRIKEFORCE movement & anti Dana movement, that you were never a part of, until the hendo thread yesterday!
Congrats poser!

This sums you up pretty much Danielle
You actually believe that this site brings any sort of legitimacy to your sad existence. The pro SF and anti-dana movements. LOL. What are you 12? I usually don’t have enough time to post long stories. My boss likes it when I am working and not conversing with demented Posers on a website. Remind me again how long you’ve been posting here? That’s right, kid.
Most posters like to read the feedback that others have left. I try to give quick encouragements, or just say hi to the guys I like. I can’t believe some of the shit that comes out of your mouth. You have a hard on for Intro. and agree with basically anything he says. You are the new Intro of this site, minus anything meaningful to say.
“Ya you’ll see my name, discussing the league your trying to jump behind now because I didn’t include you in the pro STRIKEFORCE movement & anti Dana movement, that you were never a part of, until the hendo thread yesterday!”
That’s probably the saddest thing I’ve ever read on here. I want to quit arguing now, because I feel sorry for you. Maybe some day when I’m going through a drive-thru and you are working, we’ll talk. Focking, Beaner.
Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.
"elite club of posters."
Do you even read this shit before posting? Do you not think that maybe you look like a retarded bitch for saying some of this stuff?
