Great knock out by the big man! I thought Schaub would own ‘Big Country’ just on physical size and athleticism alone. The experience really paid off for Nelson, my hats off to him and Burger King! I’d like to see Nelson fight Kongo or Gonzaga next.

By the way, Weird Al’s “I’m Fat” was a perfect intro for “Big Country”!

This is the first TUF winner that should fight top competition right away

Roy Nelson is probably the first winner of the show who could and will fight top guys immediately after winning the show. Besides Serra and Lutter, who didn’t deserve title shots, this is the best winner ever. It took all the other winners a few fights before fighting top 5 guys, but Nelson should do that in his debut. If Big Ben can fight one of the top prospects in his first UFC fight, than Big Country should fight someone of the same caliber. Not that it means much, I think he will lose to the top 4. Just sayin’.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

Same here

Great to see Big Country win after Dana tried to sabatoge his TUF appearance, Schaub is good but Nelson was a different class. Hopefully he gets a fair chance to prove himself as he’s earnt it whether Dana likes it or not. I want to see him fight top competition as well, he’s more relevant than Rothwell in my opinion. Maybe give him the Mir-Kongo loser for his first fight.

good post Jay

David: I would love to see Roy OWN Frank Mir! There isnt a thing Frank mir can do to hurt Roy! Roy alreday owned him in grappling, and he would own him standing as well!

I think its disgusting how Dana treated Roy! WTF is wrong with Dana. He isnt supposed to be biased…He is the head of a Focking sport for crying out loud. Last night was Roy’s moment and I dont like the way Dana treated him.

Tito Ortiz is losing his mind. do you see the pyscho babble, when he is looking into the camera trying to be cool? What a tool. I am however very pleased that Chuck/Tito are the next TUf coaches because they are both irrelevant, and it wont put any top fighters n the shelf f or 6 months nor will any titles be held up. Dont really care to see tito/Chuck 3. sure I like seeing Tito Ko’ed, but say Tito beats Chuck…what does that really prove at this point in chucks downfall?

by John G. on Dec 6, 2009 9:17 AM EST up reply actions

What are you talking about John

Dana is absolutley supposed to be biased. He’s a promoter. That’s what every promoter in the history of boxing and MMA is supposed to be. Dana needs [and does] say whatever he can whenever he can to make people want to watch the fight. As far as Roy owning Mir I’m with you 100%. Mir has nothing for Roy. Big Country is better on the floor and about the same if not better standing. Plus Mir Has no cardio and I don’t see him beating Roy in the first 2 minuits so that’s almost a guarenteed loss for Mir. As for Chuck/Tito as coaches, I like it. Maybe we can see this one for free on the finale [like TUF5] and it’s a good measuring stick to see if Chuck is really done or not. If he can’t beat Tito than who can he beat? Oh that’s right, Ken Shamrock!

Hmmm...

Funny how Matt Serra didn’t deserve a title shot and yet won it….

by Godfather2386 on Dec 6, 2009 9:35 AM EST up reply actions

And quickly lost it to the real champ in his first defence.

And than went back to where he was before winning it. No where. He obviously didn’t deserve the title shot.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

by jay. on Dec 6, 2009 11:27 AM EST up reply actions

I guess in your definition doing something after a year counts as being done quickly.

And yes, just like many other former champions, he did lose the title in his first defense.

The fact that he went “No where” after that loss, doesn’t negate the fact that he deserved the title shot before that loss. He won the Ultimate Fighter, and a shot at the title was the prize.

Using your logic, anyone that was not able to defend his belt didn’t deserve to have a title shot. So I guess aside from Machida (which is questionable), no one since Rampage in the 205 division deserved the title or the shot right?

Damn, I should call up Bruce Buffer and tell him to change the announcement from “new champion” to “pending champion that still gets a belt around his waist, but we’re gonna wait and see what happens in his next fight.”

by Godfather2386 on Dec 6, 2009 12:05 PM EST up reply actions

LOL

You’re so wrong I don’t know if I can help you. Serra was off for a year and got dominated in his first defense. Tell me the name of any champion in the past 3 years who was dominated that badly while losing their belt. Serra won a chance to fight GSP by beating Lytle(below gate keeper) and guys like Shonie Carter. Does beating a bunch of has beens on a reality show make one deserving of fighting the best WW in the history of the sport?
Where’s Matt Serra now? He has fought twice since the show(2 years ago) and was killed in both of them. Where is he in the current WW rankings? Where are the former champs from LHW still near the top.
You don’t have a leg to stand on, if you are saying Matt Serra deserved to be in the same cage as GSP.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

So

He still made gsp look like a bitch when he got his shot.

by mma guru on Dec 6, 2009 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

Good come back guru

How has he fared since that lucky shot?

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

by jay. on Dec 6, 2009 6:49 PM EST up reply actions

Doesn't matter

He still had gsp tapping for his life, end of story.

by mma guru on Dec 6, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

You got me...

Wow, you really got me there with your capital arguments, by just completely ignoring what was posted above and just restating your little opinions.

I think I seem to remember Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, and Randy Couture all being knocked the hell out in their title defenses.

And yeah actually, beating a bunch of “beens” on a reality show does make one deserving of a title shot if that’s the prize for winning. Certainly, the UFC thought he was deserving of it. And guess what, he dominated GSP like no one ever did that night.

I guess he doesn’t deserve the 6-figure contract he won either? Maybe Roy Nelson doesn’t deserve his, or Forrest Griffin for that matter (he did get the sh!t beaten outta him in a matter of minutes by Anderson Silva).

You keep saying where’s Matt Serra now… who cares? It doesn’t take a genius to realize that his current status doesn’t negate his past… that’s just simple logic… why am I arguing on this… I have finals….

by Godfather2386 on Dec 6, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions

Oh I forgot...

Get off of GSP’s nuts you fanboy.

by Godfather2386 on Dec 6, 2009 4:46 PM EST up reply actions

Again WEAK ASS ARGUMENT

Let’s set up a poll and let the Maniacs decide. Did Matt Serra deserve to fight GSP after beating Shonie and Lytle?

Guess what the answer will be, retard.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

by jay. on Dec 6, 2009 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

And the fight since than shows he didn't deserve to fight for the belt

He was dominated by the same man the champ has dominated twice.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

by jay. on Dec 6, 2009 6:52 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t say dominated, Hughes didn’t do that much himself. Don’t get me wrong I had Hughes winning but Serra was very busy off his back and was winning the stand-up exchanges.

GSP is in a different class to every other WW anyway, he took Serra lightly and deservedly got beat as a result, since then he’s become a much better and smarter fighter who looks unbeatable in his weight class and would beat the majority of MWs as well.

by David W-S on Dec 6, 2009 7:18 PM EST up reply actions

Serra wasn't able to stop the wrestling of Hughes

He would have no answer for the wrestling of most of the WW division. He didn’t deserve a title fight, TUF win or not.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

Jay... simple simple Jay...

This is your original statement:
“Besides Serra and Lutter, who didn’t deserve title shots, this is the best winner ever.”

Now you’re saying no one deserves a title shot after beating Shonie and Lytle. Make up your mind on the argument.

If you wanna prove me wrong, set up a poll that asks “Did Matt Serra deserve his title shot?”.

By the way, you present a very good counter-argument, by calling my arguments weak. You must be a litigator, right? Next time anyone attempts to argue with me about anything, I’m simply just gonna call their arguments dumb with no reasoning behind it. I can see it now…

Doctor – “You’re bleeding. I can tell because of the massive amounts of blood flowing from the cut on your head.”

Me – “That’s stupid.”

Therefore I must not be bleeding right?

by Godfather2386 on Dec 6, 2009 7:25 PM EST up reply actions

I know that his TDD wasn’t good enough but it doesn’t mean that Serra got dominated by Hughes, he’s too small for the division anyway but too old to make the cut to 155 without harming his body. Justified title shot or not he made the most of it and won, while that loser Lutter didn’t even bother to make weight against Andy and gassed quickly. Serra never was or will be a worldbeater but I respect him for making the most out of his opportunities, he won’t ever be a relevant title contender again but I’m not going to bash the guy for shocking the world against GSP.

by David W-S on Dec 6, 2009 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

doesn't matter if serra deserved it or not

serra got a title shot whether he deserve it or not and he made the most of it. I really don’t care anymore about it.
