The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 end of season poll

Tuf10banner_medium

Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) is now in the books.

How does this season stack up to the other nine? Well, to better gauge the sentiments coming out of this season, I've assembled a quick poll that's comprised of some of the recurring opinions that have flooded the comments section of each TUF recap starting with Episode 1.

Where do you stand?

Poll
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Season 10 was ...
1. One of the better seasons -- and I can admit it since this is anonymous
314 votes
2. Proof that TUF has run its course
188 votes
3. A good example of why you don't build a season around Heavyweights
441 votes
4. An excuse to milk ratings out of the Kimbo Slice hype machine
509 votes
5. Marred by the absence of Rampage vs. Rashad at UFC 107

I think

they should focus more on the training and the fights. Of course I don’t run a multi-billion dollar multi-national corporation so what do I know?

Personaly I love what TUF is about

If TUF stopped years ago we wouldn’t even have the same main event this weekend. It brings in so many fighters that otherwise would not get the chance in the ufc. Even if fighter get dropped from the ufc it gives them more oppertunity for work outside of the ufc. People complain all the time about how Dana will never bring the ufc to the mainstream but I wounder if the same people questioning Dana are the ones questioning The ultimate fighter.

Not much of a selection to choose from. 6 negative choices and 1 postive choice?

I agree it’s not one of the best seasons of TUF but you know fans are getting spoiled when they complain about free MMA action .

by Puck Head on Dec 4, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions

The problem is...

…that very little of the show falls under “MMA”. Maybe 10 out of 720 minutes of programming?

by ARodOfIron on Dec 4, 2009 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly thats why if your after just the MMA action just watch the last half hour

Wich should be another selection “Too much dram and not enough MMA training”

by Puck Head on Dec 4, 2009 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

thats what i was thinking puck head

Its fine that every1 else wants to kai boshe (sp?) the whole show now, I can’t stop ur opinions, but in that poll its tough to not follow routine n select the option u kno they want u to.

They simply need to go back to putting the most deserved in the house. Its for new faces that have been dedicating their lives to get there. Taking away those opportunities isn’t the answer. Leaving the fake celeb’s off is.

Of course I’m also mad about the shad/page saga, but it sounds as if we’re still getting it so. Heavies may not be the way to go on TUF but they may not have been so pitiful if we didn’t have guys with 2-3 records (McSweeney), & NFL’ers & youtube guys, getting spots over real talent, for whatever reason.

Dana needs to learn from these mistakes & come back strong next year, while getting back to the roots.

& as I suggested before if u guys are so hell bent on a comeback season (I don’t get it) have rookies vs veterans. Would be awesome n if a rookie beats a vet, he’s quickly gaining a name before even debuting in UFC.

Sorry for so long a post.

It was better than any other choice

I really had no complaints as usual I watch just the last 20 minutes of the show knowing the soap opera BS is always played the first half hour. There should be a selection “nothing to complain about, it’s free”

by Puck Head on Dec 4, 2009 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

Who cares that it's free

Just because something is on “free” tv doesn’t mean it carries no expectations with it. You need to get out of the ridiculous PPV mentality that makes you think you have no right to complain just because you’re not paying for an overpriced PPV.

Dana White trying to bullshit us into thinking this was a good season, with true talent is a crime.

Even if you didn’t buy into the DW hype, most people at least thought the season would be enjoyable to watch and have entertaining fights. On top of that, we’re forced to listen to bullshit hype around Kimbo that’s making the UFC feel more like the WWE day by day.

Then don't watch it's that simple.

The UFC is not going to change anything if they are still getting good ratings and thats a fact. If there is enough complaints they may change but in the end the ratings will determine what they do on this site most prefer the action over the drama but in the real world, and I don’t like it anymore than you the casual fans might prefer the drama BS wich is why I only watch for the most part the actual fight. Maybe if the UFC sees the ratings jump up from the first half hour they may change.

In the end TUF is made to gain casual fans and non MMA fans with the drama BS, most MMA fans will watch every event regardless of what happens in TUF. Myself I watched pretty much every TUF fight on but I missed most of the drama. Just cause it’s free doesn’t mean I have to watch it because if I did I might find myself complaining.

by Puck Head on Dec 4, 2009 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, I see it now...

…the complexities of the “change the channel” argument.

The point is, over the course of 9 previous seasons the loyal viewers had come to expect a certain quality of product that was not delivered this season. If you continue to fail to supply this, you not only lose ratings in the long run, but break the trust of those fans who have enjoyed the show for many seasons. If not for Kimbo I think even the general public would eventually realize this and ratings would decline.
More importantly, my opinion of the show and my right to complain about it really has nothing to do with ratings anyway.

What if Seinfeld had decided that to radically change format and bring on a super sexy friend for the crew midway through the many seasons, completely ruining the dynamic of the show? Would the millions of Seinfeld fans have no right to complain because the show is free?

good post but....

the decline of TUF started long before this season. IMO after season 4 its taken a dive.

by McArthur... on Dec 4, 2009 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

there's lots to agree with on both sides.

I truly hope they don’t take the show away entirely. We need the fresh talent n less celebrity bs. I won’t get deep into it, I already did above. But both sides of this argument present valid points, & its a ‘TUF’ call. Sorry. Had to.

by daniel worby on Dec 4, 2009 6:11 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I agree with you frosnt1 but I also understand Spike & the UFC

won’t change if the ratings remain high thats all. But they might of heard the complaints from the fans this season and maybe will change I don’t know? But it has been like this for the last two years at least.

by Puck Head on Dec 4, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

mania this isn't really anonymous, we'll definitely be able to see who picks #1!! haha

if you click on somebody’s name e.g. Dirty_Sanchez, i know that he voted for #6 because it posted in his comments section.

by Blunt n' Beer on Dec 4, 2009 3:21 PM EST reply actions

There's no option for 3 through 6

You gotta agree with 3 through 6, though i gotta say that there’s no way TUF has run its course

by coolmanblue on Dec 4, 2009 3:46 PM EST reply actions

EXACTLY coolmanblue!

Needed option 3to6. I don’t want the show gone. I want it reverted to what made it big in the 1st place.

by daniel worby on Dec 4, 2009 6:14 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

The only good thing that happened on this season

was when Mcsweeney was show boating in his fight against Big Country when he got popped in the chops, then taken down and put in the Crucifix!!! Mcsweeney really had a Boner for the nice quiet guy that would not defend himself until the last show when he burst out the bathroom swinging. It made me think that maybe Mcsweeney got bullied as a kid and thats why he does now as an adult, what a douche he is!!!!

by HEELHOOK on Dec 4, 2009 4:44 PM EST reply actions

haha...

similar to when Shad thought he had time to showboat vs Machida…

by McArthur... on Dec 4, 2009 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

McSweeney is a prick

I’d give him a contract just to watch more people beat up on him.

by (shonuff) on Dec 5, 2009 9:40 AM EST up reply actions

If you have seen every season till now

you can clearly see this as the worst of them all, mind you at least know one jacked off in anybodies food this time, that was just nasty to the point were I could not watch anymore. They need to do something differant, what? I dont know. This does not seem like the type of show that can go on forever, eventually you are going to run out of talent. What to do??

by HEELHOOK on Dec 4, 2009 6:05 PM EST reply actions

you'll never run out of talent.

They need to discipline idiots like sir cums a lot. That was disgusting & I would’ve got kicked out of the house for that cause i’d have tore him limb from FUCKIN limb. No man should ever taste any other mans cum in anyway. What a bloody disgrace.

Dana should’ve instantly spoke with him. Warned him n even taken away any potential earnings for the 5k if u stop ur opponent etc and coaches challenge money for players etc.
Ooooo that fired me up back then & it still does. Man i’d kill that shithead

by daniel worby on Dec 4, 2009 6:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

It's the size that counts

Dana doesn’t give a rat’s ass what WE think about TUF. We’re the loyal fans who care enough about MMA to waste our time arguing about it on the internet. He’s already got our money in his pocket. More than recruiting new talent, the point of TUF is to recruit new viewers, new UFC fans. So what die hard fans think of the quality of the show is completely irrelevant. It’s the size of the audience that Dana is looking at. How many people are tuning in to the UFC for the first time? How many people are learning the names of fighters so they will recognize those names when they see them on a future card adn maybe buy that card cause they know who some of the fighters are. That said, this season drew more viewers than any previous season. So your complaints about having celebrities on the card are falling on deaf ears at Zuffa. Don’t be surprised if you start seeing more and more celebs on TUF (like most other reality shows) now that Dana knows millions will tune in to see them fight. Expect to see more names like Donny Osmond, Lorenzo Llamas, Hershel Walker, and Busta Rhymes….maybe even an occasional Danny Bonaducci.

tuf hasnt produced a season worth a fock...

…since season 2 or 3….

the whole point of the show is to find talent….look at season 1….look how many fighters are still under contract…diego, kos, forrest, kenflo, leben, bonner, swick, bonner…..these are all guys who have made an impact in the ufc, who have carved out become part of the creme of the crop of the ufc….kos, diego, kenflo 3 of the top 3 guys in their weight classes, forrest former world champion…..leben one of the most recognized fighters in the game…swick – top contender….

name one other season who still has 8 fighters under contract…there isnt one single one…now you’re lucky if each season still has 3 guys under contract…look up each season…even the winners of each season are barely on ppv…kendall grove – nearly cut, nate diaz – cant put together a win streak, matt danzig – close to being cut…

other than season 1 you have rashad, jardine, bisping, hammil, grey who have accomplished anything of significance in the ufc…

jake shields is the highest ranked fighter to have never fought i highly ranked fighter...i cant wait till hendo signs to strikeforce and murders that talentless waste of flesh

by HellaHectic on Dec 4, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

oh and

matt serra – one and done….travis lutter – cut….each season hasnt produced shit after the early seasons…..

oh and sorry bout mentioning bonner twice abovie, i meant to mention quarry, thats the 8th guy…but my point is season 1 still has 8 guys under contract, and they are all guys who have made an impact…..other than rashad and bisping and maynard its pretty much been a joke…even the winners havent lived up to their hype

jake shields is the highest ranked fighter to have never fought i highly ranked fighter...i cant wait till hendo signs to strikeforce and murders that talentless waste of flesh

by HellaHectic on Dec 4, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions

What about...

Gray Maynard (possibly next in line for title shot), Joe Lauzon (still very young, and talented), Matt Wiman (not the best, but mid level fighter), Manny Gamburyan (Possibly next in line for WEC 145lb title shot), You mentioned Diaz, who i strongly dislike so I will only say that he is ok. AND Gabe Reuteger (Future champ of UFC Light heavyweight division…..wait and see.) That was a pretty solid season.

The show isn’t about finding 16 guys to come in and dominate the UFC. It’s to round out the existing roster with new talent. If you expect the full cast of any season to stir things up in any division, perhaps you are asking too much. The talent level has certainly declined, but TUF as a method for bringing in fighters is by no means obsolete.

by Amos14 on Dec 5, 2009 2:09 AM EST up reply actions

im glad

That a poll actually has an answer I finally agree with

by LatinoHeat13 on Dec 4, 2009 9:31 PM EST via mobile reply actions

The TUF hasn't run it's course..

But the idea of bringing new fighters from the US every season prolly has drained the talent pool for now.. Time for a comeback-season or continent vs continent or nation vs nation. How crazy would a America vs Asia be (counting Russia in Asia). Obviously I realize it would never happen, but it would draw ratings worldwide.

The biggest dissapointment in this season was obviously the cancellation of the coaches fight. Ever since they started putting coaches against each other after the season it has been what I’ve been waiting for the most. I don’t even care who would’ve won here. But obviously Evans laying on the mat with doctors and his team around him and Rampage taking the mic from Rogan and yelling “who’s the bitch now” would’ve been priceless.

Kimbo made this season as popular as it was.
