Only a few days remain until the Dynamite!! 2009 on New Year`s Eve and one last bout to round out the MMA/K-1 hybrid fight card was made official today:
Up-and-comer Gegard Mousasi (27-2-1) will indeed battle veteran Gary Goodridge (23-19-1) as previously rumored.
While Mousasi was initially scheduled to fight in a K-1 contest, he will now face Goodridge under full MMA rules. Currently on a 14-fight win streak, the 24 year-old Armenian-Dutch fighter has emerged as one of the most enthralling young fighters during the last two years.
After defeating Denis Kang, Dong Sik Yoon, Melvin Manhoef, and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza en route to capturing the DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix gold, he made his American debut this past August to demolish Renato "Babalu" Sobral in 60 seconds and added the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight title to his resume.
In his last fight in November at "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers" event, he defeated Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in a non-title affair.
In his appearance in Dynamite!! 2008, Mousasi was among the MMA trio comprising him, Alistair Overeem, and Tatsuya Kawajiri who accomplished a clean sweep of K-1 squad in a MMA vs. K-1 bout series under the K-1 rule: He defeated the Japanese K-1 legend, Musashi via second round TKO.
UFC and PRIDE veteran, Gary "Big Daddy" Goodridge, on the other hand, has lost his last four bouts. A runner-up in UFC`s heavyweight tournament at UFC 8, "Big Daddy" has fought the Who`s Who among the heavyweights -- including Fedor Emelianenko, Marco Ruas, Ricco Rodriguez, Igor Vovchanchyn, Gilbert Yvel, Oleg Taktarov, Bob Schrijber, and Heath Herring -- in his 14-year career.
Stay tuned to MMAmania for coverage of a pre-fight press conference with all Dynamite!! 2009 participants in attendance on Wednesday, January 30.
