Dan Hardy and Michael Bisping UFC 105 bouts coming to UK's FIVE Network on Jan. 3

Hardy-bisping-five_medium
London, December 22 – The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization is proud to announce two of the most significant British wins in UFC history – Dan Hardy’s points victory over Mike Swick, and Michael Bisping’s second round TKO over Denis Kang – will be screened on terrestrial network television this holiday season.

Both bouts, which took place at UFC 105 on November 14, will be broadcast at midnight on Sunday January 3 on channel FIVE as UFC: Main Event returns.

UFC 105 was the biggest British fight night of 2009, cramming nearly 17,000 fans into Manchester’s MEN Arena for what was one of the most memorable evenings in the history of British Mixed Martial Arts.

First, Michael ‘the Count’ Bisping recovered from an early knockdown to stop highly regarded Denis Kang in a hugely significant middleweight victory. Then, Dan ‘the Outlaw’ Hardy earned the first ever title shot for a British fighter when he punched his way past top welterweight Mike ‘Quick’ Swick.

Marshall Zelaznik, the UFC’s UK Division President, said: "We are delighted to give FIVE viewers the chance to see these two incredible performances by Dan and Mike. Their victories at UFC 105 are quite possibly the two biggest wins for British fighters in the history of the UFC. These two performances are easily in the top five by any British fighter since the UFC’s inception in 1993."

Star-divide

Indeed, ‘the Count’ was dropped in the opening seconds of the very first round and spent much of the opening stanza on his back defending against his Canadian opponent’s attacks. But the Manchester fighter roared back in the second round, unleashing a relentless ground and pound assault which Kang had no answer for.

"It was a defining fight for ‘the Count,’" Zelaznik said. "It re-established him as a serious contender at middleweight and proved the kind of fighting heart he has. The support he received from the Manchester fans was deafening."

And in the featured bout of UFC: Main Event, Nottingham’s Dan ‘the Outlaw’ Hardy outpoints top welterweight Mike ‘Quick’ Swick over three exciting rounds. With the win, Hardy became the first Briton to earn a shot at a UFC World Championship. Hardy will challenge welterweight king George St-Pierre in early 2010.

Zelaznik said: "Dan started as a big underdog in this fight against Swick, but, like he has in all four of his UFC bouts to date, the Outlaw proved the doubters wrong. He hurt Swick early on in the bout with a huge right hand and dictated the pace from there. Hardy clearly carries thunderous power in his hands but what surprised a lot of people is that he could match ‘Quick’ Swick for handspeed too.

"Dan’s win was a huge one for all of British MMA and we are excited to give FIVE viewers the chance to watch these two big British victories."

UFC: Main Event hits the FIVE airwaves at midnight on the night of Sunday, January 3.

The look on Bispings face...

just says “I’m an ahole….don’t like it?….then feck off!”

REALITY CHECK:

If UFC wasn’t so jolly about being in the UK, Bisping would be invisible and Hardy would be fighting Koscheck or the like.

Reality Check DubNub

If Mike Swick was booked for a title shot right now everyone would be cool with it, Hardy beat Swick very convincingly. That win shifted him forward a bit, but don’t cheapen Hardy’s title envolvemnet, he’s not fighting for it just because he’s English, everyone is saying Kos, Alves, Fitch etc. should be ahead of him, they all had their shot and lost!! let Hardy have his chance before we embark on a long list of boring and predictable rematches.

Plus I appreciate that pretty much everybody on this site despizes Bisping, and I can see where you’re coming from, I don’t like him either, but he is a decent fighter, he’s not that great and he’ll never be a champ in the UFC but aside from Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans, he’s never lost and it’s not his fault that he has been spoon fed crappy opponents for most of his career. Everyone on here is saying that if Hardy wasn’t british he wouldn’t be fighting for the title, well I’m pretty sure if Bisping wasn’t British you guys wouldn’t give him so much sh*t. Just go easy on him!!!

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

I underestimated the deadly skills of one of the greatest HWs in the world, Frank Mir. I wrote that because I lost a bet but honestly, he really did impress me. I'm well on the Frank wagon

Try again

It wouldn’t matter if Bisping was polish, black, a gay midget, a black gay polish midget, it really does not matter – he is still an arrogant irritating fellow who deserves all the garbage we can throw at him.

Cheers!

I don’t really have an issue with Bisping, but those gay midgets can all go straight to hell.

i would still be pissed

swick sucks and i thought he would beat hardy, that being said he never had a chance agenst gsp, i wasn’t very happy that he would be getting his shot, i was hoping kampman would get the shot untill daily murrded him.

Furthermore...

The only reason Swick was due for a title fight was because everyone else lost already to GSP. I actually like Hardy and he deserves his due. A fight with the top 5 is more appropriate…Not GSP.

My point is this:

UFC tends to do what drives sales (duh…right?…Its a biz). They want to promote in UK/Europe. You can’t deny the bias.

by DubNub on Dec 23, 2009 12:32 PM EST up reply actions

of course there is bias1 the ufc wants to cash in on europe and brittian was the first step!

i think hendo wrecking bisbing was one of the things that caused him to be let go. he milked the cash cow that was bisbing to elevate his own popularity at the expense of the ufc’s american invasion of great brittian. dana had to be pissed when hendo ko’ed bisbing, almost as pissed as big country winning the ultimate fighter.

I'm English and I can't stand Bisping

The guy is arrogant and doesn’t back it up, I was gutted when Kang blew it in Manchester. At least Wandi can give me a late birthday present by smashing the git in Australia, just as Scott gave me an early Xmas present by KO’g Dung.

Hardy deserves his shot, he earned it by beating Swick. The Rough House boys beat the UFC’s chosen 2 WW contenders decisively and both deserve to be right at the top of the rankings, Fitch hasn’t beaten a top 5 opponent since losing to GSP, Kos lost to the 2 Thiagos while Alves hasn’t fought since losing to GSP. Hardy is 4-0 in the UFC and has earnt his spot, the fact that the title fight is on a stacked card in New Jersey and not on a UK card to me proves that this title fight has nothing to do with British marketing.

Anderson has had 10 fights in the UFC, only 1 has ever gone to a decision."

Bisping has never lost, but....

other then KAng (who is a bit of a mental midget) he has not beaten anyone that matters. I think Bisping gets so much shit because before getting leveled like a pancake he acted like a Tito and had no accomplishments to show for it.

While I appreciate your die hard fandom of Hardy Keelo, I don’t see how or where you think Hardy is going to win this fight. Yeah he has a punchers chance just like everyone else that has fought GSP, but he will get doubled legged, drilled into the matt, ground and pounded till he gives up a limb or his neck, and tap like everyone else. Even in the standup GSP is the better of the 2.

Michael Bisping’s most significant win… is against Denis Kang….
That’s pretty sad.

"two of the most significant British wins in UFC history "

Fuck i hate this advertisment of the brits, like pretty sure his most significant win was the tuf finale not against a subpar MW who was 5-5 in his last 10 fights and lost to belchar

by GOLDIGGAH on Dec 23, 2009 11:36 AM EST up reply actions

top 10

did anyone else notice the ol bizzz was out of the mw top 10 rankings when they last came out. LOL!

Hardy is starting to grow on me, but i want him to fight alves, kos, finch, aj, even matt hughes. i also think he has been fast tracked to the title because hes british but, what ever, gsp will own him, and then those fights will happen, and we will see how good he really is. i would take alves, and aj by ko, and finch, kos, and huges by UD.

Hughes ducked the top young talent including Hardy when he took the Renzo fight, don't expect him to ever have a relevant fight again

Andy, Vitor, Nate, Maia, Wandi as well as Sonnen and Okami plus Hendo before he left and Franklin if you count him as a MW

ok

silva, vitor, nate, maia, chale sonnen (by other sites ranking)

until recently i would have been able to use franklin, wandy and hendo as well, if wandy beats bizz i want him and belcher to have at it.

Hm....

Maia Sonnen ahea of Bisping? why? because you don’t like him? remember don’t use mma maths as you lot tell me. Ive said well before Marquadt beat him the Bisping would wreck Maia. way to tall and huge reach on him.

WANDY RIP

by Tonyuk on Dec 23, 2009 2:33 PM EST reply actions

Nate has power, Bisping doesn't

What would Bisping do on the ground against Maia? And if Demian can take down Sonnen then Bisping won’t be able to keep it on the feet. Demian would submit Bisping in the first round, he has much more dangerous BJJ than Kang.

Sonnen has beaten better competition than Bisping (Miller and Okami as well as Filho in the WEC) so he should be ranked higher as well.
