MMA Big Show: Gary Goodridge vs Ron Sparks set for 'A New Dawn' on Jan. 9
Former PRIDE FC and K-1 star Gary Goodridge (23-19-1) will return to mixed martial arts action after more than a year on the sidelines to take on fellow bruiser Ron Sparks (5-0) at the upcoming MMA Big show event "A New Dawn" set for the Belterra Casino in Florence, Indiana, on Saturday, January 9.
"Big Daddy" is perhaps best known to casual MMA fans for his unintentional snuff film against Paul Herrera at UFC 8: "David vs. Goliath." Goodridge secured his helpless foe in a crucifix and proceeded to rain down elbows until the referee intervened -- even after Herrera lost consciousness.
He recovered shortly thereafter, but highlights of the drubbing are frequently used in the anti-MMA crusade.
Between MMA and kickboxing, Goodridge has amassed a staggering 79 fights to his name since 1996. Unfortunately his career has been in a serious decline, as the Canadian has dropped five straight including back-to-back losses at the hands of Paul Buentello and Alistair Overeem.
Still, his experience and heavy hands make him a serious threat to Sparks' undefeated record.
"The Monster" was unsuccessful in his Oct. 23 bid to upset kickboxing legend Alexey "The Red Scorpion" Ignashov at the K-1 ColliZion 2009 Final Elimination show, but he's been unstoppable in five appearances inside the cage.
The six-foot-five-inch menace has four victories by way of (T)KO stoppage in his career and most recently put a beating on Jonathan Ivey at RFL: "Maximum Impact" en route to a unanimous decision win back on June 27.
How he fares against the well-traveled Goodridge remains to be seen.
MMA Big Show: "A New Dawn" will also feature Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veteran Luke Zachrich (10-1) taking on Bryon Sutton (5-0) for the promotion's light heavyweight title.

Who cares?
I tell you what I do care about, that chick in the advertisement on the right. Jesus…
Don't eat yellow snow.
let's hope Goodrdige puts Sparks in a crucifix like he did Paul Herrera and lands a million elbows and Sparks dies.
In all reality this is such a meaningless fight it’s unreal.
I love to party. An amalgamation of weed, liquor and girls constitutes the important things in my life. I also love school....but only when I'm hungover.
let's hope Sparks brings an actual crucifix with him into the cage
And rams it down Goodridges throat.

Anyone know who the hell Luke Zachrich is? I’m both proud and ashamed to say I’ve seen every season of TUF and have no idea who he is. Was he eliminated in one of the seasons when they started with 32 and forced guys to fight their way in?
Good times and riches and son of a bitches
I've seen more than I can recall.
No. He actually made the show.
Believe he was eliminated by Dan Cramer (if you remember who that was). He is a Jorge Gurgel guy, and I think either this site or Junkie carried his blog.
Hope this helps haha.
Wow. Sparks is 5-0
He is the next big prospect like Court Jester Lawal.

Im guessing this will be at Super Heavy being that's what Sparks fights at.

Sad, sad, sad.......
I just hope Gary doesnt become the first fighter to die in the cage. This guy has NO business fighting anymore. I know he may need the money, but enough is enough. He must not have anyone close to him telling him to stop.
Did anyone see any of his last few fights?? There was a fight, I dont know where, but Goodridge basically covered up for 2 rounds and let his opponent hit him hundreds of times. Then he just quit between rounds and walked off
If Gary keep this up, he will be the first, MAYBE not to die, but the first that shows SERIOUS effects that cagefighting has had on him
He has been in some brutal kickboxing bouts over the last couple years too
The man hasn’t won a thing in years, and he’s clearly worn down.
It’s a shame, really.
