I'm not impressed...yet.

I won’t even go into who he’s fought since he’s still new to MMA, BUT just watching him in the cage, his stance, his technique, etc, its still not there yet.

What rubbed me the wrong way even more is when he thought he was Rampage talking about the “money”

When he fights Mousasi he won't be as wreckless he knew Whitehead was slow

The guy dissects tape and watches MMA religously and could tell you off the top of his head what most fighters strengths and weaknesses are.

I'm impressed'

His stance is like that because he’s quicker than his opponents, Give Mo’ someone as fast as him and he’ll be tested, however he’s got his wrestling to take it to the ground. He’s almost 30 yrs old, but if he was 22 yrs like Bones Jones, I would be sayng he’s a future MMA star in any org. Mo, is personally irritating to me, but I like his ability.

by THORAZINE on Dec 21, 2009 2:06 AM EST up reply actions

Definitely

Good attitude, nice finish. I remember how Whitehead was a total dickhead in an interview after Rampage KO’d Wanderlei so sweet to see fatass get laid out. Does he seriously think he’s gonna accomplish anything be being so fat.

whitehead isnt an easy guy to KO!

I dont know what to think of King Mo. He hasnt fought anyone! No idea how good he is yet! He de needs to fight Sokoudjou next!

He sucks real hard for trying to compare himself to Rampage, would be sweet if Mo and Rashad fought eachother and hopefully have it end with a double KO.

Rashad isn't considered a prospect any more is he?

And Bones did just beat ‘someone’. I’m not getting involved or anything, but am I right? Bones has arrived and Shad has fought enough to not be considered a young prospect, right?

He is fast and fearless. He is going to be a monster some day. Some people decide how talented a fighter is by reading Wikipedia. Try watching the guy and grade him on his abilities, not the abilities of his opponents.

Alpha:

Yes I said those words but you are taking it out of context!
I made that statement in a thread were everyone was treating Mo and bones were being talked about as if they were top 10 Fighters that should be fighting for the title. I am actually a big fan of both Mo and Bones…I just strongly believe in the natural progression of a fighter. after what happened to Sokoudjou, I hate to see a fighter rushed into fights that he has no business taking at this point in his career.

If I remember correctly, in the thread that I made those statements, people were saying that Mo could beat Rampage at this moment in his career. Thats insane!

I do actually really like Mo and BOnes. I think they are both studs, who could one day be champions! I just dont think they are world beaters right now!

Jay: No Rashad isnt a prospect, but he still hasnt beaten anyone that would earn him a spot as a top fighter. If you want my honest opinion, Rashad has the skills of a top 10 UFC LHW, not a top 5 (there is a huge drop off between top 10 and top 5 in UFC LHW division)…even though he has the skills of a top 10 fighter, he has yet to earn it inside the Octagon and that bothers me. At some point soon, he has to get a win over an established top dog like Shogun,Rogerio,Machida,Rampage…until then I question how good he really is….

John...

Thanks for clearing up your post. I agree about Shad, he got lucky and won the belt without having to face anyone in the top 7. When Forrest is the biggest win of your career, you haven’t had much of a career.

I remember you as the first guy to scout tons of guys(mostly correctly). Nobody can deny or dispute your abilities to see talent before it has ripened.

As for Rashad…EXACTLY!

Just cause he wore the UFC title, it doesnt mean anything. The UFC cheapens its titles by having a title fight between ovr rated guys like FOrrest and Page!

Rashad, beat an established top dog, and I will never bash you again!

I know john

lol, I used these quotes to my advantage. I know that you said else where that they are both great prospects and that you like them. I was only messing with ya a little bit. I didn’t wanted to bring you heat for that though so I guess that was a bad move and I’m sorry about that.
Completely agree with your post and that that dude ItBurnz is wrong about Mo avoiding the big shot from Page long enough to take him down and ride to a decision. No way in hell that could ever happen. Hendo and Linland couldn’t hold down Page long enough to ride to a decision and Mo wouln’t be able to succeed either.

by Alpha Male. on Dec 21, 2009 9:45 AM EST up reply actions

Hendo and Lindland are both Greco guys and Lindland was very small compared to Rampage

Mo is a TD specialist and freestyle guy. Completely different. Rampage has a ton of power if you exchange with him but if you frustrate him and grapple and don’t exchange his chance of a fight changing punch drops the more you wear him down. Forrest and his glass jaw lasted against Rampage. He had to get through the first 3 rounds and then his safety increased a great bit even though I personally believe Forrest deserved no better than a draw in that fight.

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Dec 21, 2009 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

What you're talking about..very small and very different?

Greco vs freestyle…the guy his a silver Olympian medallist. How can you have better than that? Now you gonna telling us that be a Senior National Champ is more prestigious…please. They fought at 205 and he’s 6’ and Page is 6’1". that’s not very small in my book even if Page was at 215- 220 during fight time. Mo is 6’ and he his at 215lbs, so it’s about the same and you got to be delusional for thinking that Mo at this stage of his career, could fool Page and drag him fighting his fight by doing a grapple match w/o exchange. Then you go on with an example that holds no weight at all, with Forrest a guy that got drop twice in that fight plus he never beat Page with a grappling style. So man get out of it, there’s nothing that he could bring to the table that Page never seen before and no way that he could hold down Page for 15 mins.

by Alpha Male. on Dec 21, 2009 11:52 PM EST up reply actions

Do you understand the differences between freestyle and Greco?

?? Greco emphasizes throws and doesn’t allow trips or any manipulation of the lower body and as such generally Greco guys, (Hendo and Lindland), are better in the clinch but not as effective at controlling guys on the ground. Rampage is a solid wrestler and is very powerful but Hendo did get him down and control him on the ground for a round. Mo could that and more.

Also Forrest never beat Rampage with any grappling? You remember the round people seemed convinced was a 10-8 because Rogan said so? It was largely a grappling match.

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Dec 22, 2009 1:14 AM EST up reply actions

That and Rampage (despite the fact that he would knock glass chinned Rashad silly because he hates him)

Looked like crap against china-chinned Jardine and china-chinned Forrest. Rampage can be lured into a slow match where he isn’t advancing constantly once it goes past 1. He’s great but has lots of weaknesses.

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Dec 22, 2009 1:17 AM EST up reply actions

Who the fk you think you are for questioning me if I understand the difference between the 2 styles of wrestling? I see a few posts out of you coming challenging regulars on this site about their knowledge in MMA when they have been here for years. What makes you think that I’m a Rogan listener? Go fk yourself! Do you really think that Mexi never heard of Wiuff also? All you are saying is pure speculation out of your fantasy land and you try to make me buy your garbage that Rampage got more weaknesses than Mo? Get the fk out of here and stay at BE dipshit!

by Alpha Male. on Dec 22, 2009 2:43 AM EST up reply actions

Yes Rampage would beat Mo for sure.

King Mo is king of the cans right now, that’s the truth and it has nothing do with how good he is, he just hasn’t fought anybody. I hope you’re kidding though when you’re trying to imply that Jon Jones is overhyped? he’s def not, even though he hasn’t really fought anybody either. But he’s a rookie, taking one step at a time, dude has a good attitude and skills, he is going to be succesful and expose alot of name fighters.

by RoBerto. on Dec 21, 2009 12:02 AM EST up reply actions

Standing yes.

Rampage is like a turtle on his back though. Mo could lay and pray him already at this point in his career. He’s quick enough and understands distance well enough that he stays out of striking range except when he wants to be in it. The only danger to him with his style is a guy throwing a headkick when he ducks and weaves. There’s like 4 guys at 205 that actually have good kicks. Machida, Shogun, Mousasi and Vera and I bet you don’t see him wreckless against Mousasi as he knows hes dangerous.

Gimme 1 round!

Plus Jones trains with a much better camp. And if you can’t se the major difference in the effectiveness and technique between Jones and the Court Jester, I don’t know what to tell you. Reply makes no sense.

Don’t post just to get your post count up Mexi. scott1 commented on Whitehead and Frye. What does Kool Aid have to do with those two dudes? They aren’t hyped up fighters, so there is no Kool Aid to drink.

Frank Mir packed 30+ pounds of solid muscle onto his body in five months. Why hasn't anyone called him out for steroid use? Is it because he never wrestled for Vince McMahon? I give Mir credit for his taste in strippers/wives, not his fighting skills or his personality.

Not Frye, Kerr.

I get old irrelevant fighters mixed up. lol

Thats a really good relevant fighter he has beat.

I think my 17 year old cousin can beat Kerr.
To buy into the Hype of Lawal is simply moronic. He is the Dung Le of the HW division. After he loses to a couple good fighters, he will go back to Japan and fight guys like Sapp and Choi. Mark my words.

He hasn't had a chance to fight anyone yet.

Not everybody fights Fedor in their first 6 fights. That argument is dumb. Jake Shields hasn’t fought anyone and he’s been fighting for like 10 years.

Who would you be willing to fight in your first year as a fighter?

He’s been fighting a year. He is still learning. You don’t put a hot prospect against the Champ in his first year. How would that help him in the long run?

You're not impressed with Mo's abilities

But you are impressed with Matt Hammil and Stephen Bonnar?

Hamill was a Division 3 wrestler, Mo was Division 1. I don’t even have to tell you about Bonnar’s probelems. We aren’t talking records and opponents faced, Mexi. We are talking talent/abilities and potential. We can’t talk records and opponents faced until there has been more time. Potential is obviously there, if you can’t spot it you have a bad eye for it. You said I bought into crap earlier…Whom are you speaking of? Was that a baseless accusation?

you know Travis Wiuff and Mike Whitehead are fairly equivalent to Stephan Bonnar, Matt Hamill, anyway…

I wouldn’t waste your time it’s clear Mexi is completely irrational on this matter.

Actually I see you used Wiki Felix I didn't even know he was in "Real Pro Wrestling"

Jones was a Junior College (JuCo) champ

Mo was ranked #1 in the world as an amatuer wrestler. He was US national champion and won prestigious tournaments around the world. Against international competition.

Well Felix

Considering he can make 185 – Thats what he wrestled at – and he’s fighting at HW, someone of intelligence should be able to extrapolate that he’s without challengers at his natural weight so he fights anybody.

Ok

Yea but he is on his way up just like other fighters. This is where he starts his legacy whether successful or not. So far he is looking very impressive against real fighters so you cant take that away. The future of MMA starts in Strikeforce!!! UFC isnt getting anywhere letting go of GREAT FIGHTERS to sign guys like Baroni and Buentello. Watch and see Strikeforce will have more entertaining fight cards and more fighter will follow

I thought it was awesome too.

I see nothing wrong with that. Mo is a flashy, exciting guy. If “moneyweight” bothers you, you shouldn’t watch him, because that is the least offensive thing he’s done in months.

I think he’s quick and talented. I’d bet for him against a LOT of UFC LHW’s. Definitely too fast for most of them.

by BNF on Dec 20, 2009 4:25 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I wasn't disagreeing about that, BNF.

I was saying that the moneyweight comment really is a non-issue. His dancing to the ring and show boating are much worse. I thought the moneyweight thing was just funny. I don’t care for his antics, same as when Mayhem does it. They’re wrastling style entrances and they are lame, no matter who is doing it. I just think he is talented and exciting. I tend to ignore the entrances and pick the guys I root for based on talent. King Mo is talented.

King Mo's got the potential to be great

He had no respect for Whitehead’s power and had clinical boxing, that matched with his superb wrestling and charisma makes him one for the future. Say what you want about Whitehead but at this stage of his career that is an impressive win for King Mo, beating a veteran coming off the biggest win of his career whilst still being a novice is big. Hopefully he fights someone legitimate like Soko next and his days of fighting journeymen and hasbeens are over, he needs to prove himself consistently and he’ll only improve by fighting top competition, although at this stage he should be kept well away from Gegard as he’d get crushed.

Still a nobody with a big mouth

Whitehead is a CAN people, this “win” doesnt mean shit.

Mousasi shouldnt waste time on this loser but if Mo the bigmouth wants his jaw broken then go ahead, maybe he’ll be quiet after that.

by Lester The Pimp on Dec 20, 2009 3:38 PM EST reply actions

I won't say that he is he next big thing, but

I will admit that I am excited to see his future fights. He looked comfortable in there, and that seems to lead to exciting fights. He is part of Strikeforce’s improving lineup. The fact that he shows his personality seems to irk some of you, but I don’t mind he spraying rockstar around the ring. Bottom line is he is going to be fun to watch, and the blatant hating by some of you guys is boring

by DH. on Dec 20, 2009 4:46 PM EST reply actions

Mo is tough but Im not impressed.

the only reason Im not impressed is because of his opponent, beating Mike Whitehed is nothing to write home about but its still a win.

If he fights a good striker he will be in for some trouble. He may be heavy handed but the way he hangs his hands at his hips is gonna get his ass knocked out.

not impressed

by a lack of performance by mo…. but Whitehead wouldn’t even be on a prelim bout for a UFC fight night.

by tallimeca on Dec 20, 2009 11:53 PM EST reply actions

Impressed, but (like above) needs a real fight now

He looked great for the level of competition he faced on Saturday night. But like somebody else wrote above, he needs a real right now. Give him somebody of note, somebody who will finally challenge him. He’s a natural talent, and he’s coasted on that talent so far. I’m not saying he hasn’t trained. I’m sure he’s trained hard. But he needs a real test.

by MMACrossfire on Dec 21, 2009 12:13 AM EST reply actions

Give him Lindland in wrestler vs wrestler match

Mo’s wrestling weight was 185 and he can still make it. Then you’ll see how ridiculously powerful this dude is.

fights cans

yes hes got power and is a very athletic dude.. like everyone including me says, give him a real test… theres many tuff fights for him before he desrves a shot at gegard.. hendo, babalou, many fights that will be a real test.. as well as the african assasin. lol. he too was highly touted only to never get going when push came to shuv. i think princess mo will get beat down when he gets a real fight!!!

by thesickness on Dec 21, 2009 10:24 AM EST reply actions

The difference is with Soccerjew

He landed a couple flush punches and scored flash KO’s against Rogerio and Arona in the opening seconds of the fight. Arona is actually a perfect matchup for him as he is weak on his feet and Soko has his judo background for TD defense. Rogerio just got caught cold early in the fight and Soko throws hard early in the fight before he gasses. Soko has been impressive in round 1 against everybody. The Mousasi and Machida are the only guys to take rd 1 against him and it wasn’t going away in either fight. Stylewise Soko would be a hard matchup for Mo but he’d use movement and take him into the later rounds where he’d gas.

Gimme 1 round!
