Roy Nelson vs. Brendan Schaub set for Dec. 5 Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale
Former IFL champion Roy Nelson has fought his way into the Dec. 5 Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale and will face fellow contestant and undefeated Greg Jackson disciple Brendan Schaub this Saturday, live from "The Pearl" at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Spike TV.
"Big Country" quickly put an end to the Kimbo Slice experiment in front of a record-breaking 6.1 million viewers on Episode 3 of the Spike TV reality show. While UFC President Dana White panned the performance, it was still good enough to move him into the quarterfinals.
His second fight was far from the dominant performance of the first, as Nelson opted to throw leather for two rounds against Justin Wren. He squeaked past "The Viking" via majority decision and into a semifinal bout against James McSweeney.
Once again, Nelson kept it standing, but when a cocky McSweeney ate a hard right hand, the portly jiu-jitsu black belt capitalized on the rubber legs and took the fight to the ground. From there it was academic, as he used the same belly crucifix he used to pound out Kimbo Slice to finish McSweeney and launch himself into the live Finale.
He'll definitely have his hands full against Schaub.
The undefeated Colorado native took a few shots from Demico Rogers in his opening elimination fight, but stayed composed and secured an anaconda choke to finish "Night Train" and advance to the quarterfinals.
Waiting for him was Jon Madsen, who used his wrestling prowess to keep Schaub's hands at bay; however, Schaub was able to catch the H.I.T. Squad member with a brutal combination, putting him to sleep in the second round.
His final test would be against Marcus Jones in the semifinals. "The Darkness' powered him to the ground and tried to keep him there, but the wily Schaub battled back and once again used his superior stand-up to finish his larger foe.
Now he'll look to keep his perfect record intact against Roy Nelson on Dec. 5.
Who takes it?
TUF 10 Finale will feature a showdown between the top two finalists from the Spike TV reality show, Roy Nelson and Brendan Schaub, as well as a light heavyweight war featuring Jon "Bones" Jones as he inches his way closer to contention against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill.
Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of the TUF 10 Finale, beginning with the Spike TV telecast at 9 p.m. ET. In addition, we will deliver up-to-the-minute quick results of all the under card action on fight night.

lol
Meh i dont think Big country has the stand on to take on shaub i think hes gonna get ko’d in the 2nd round pretty early..
You got some really stupid picks man.....not so much this one but you say kimbo via armbar.......thats fucking jokes lol
Come on Schaub!!!!
Big Country winning would be bad for the UFC. The guy is average at best, towards the end of his career and has no room for improvement. I hope Schaub takes it, if he does it will by KO. Bones is gonna smoke Hamill by the way, book it!
Average and no room for improvement?
Your statement is a contradiction into itself. If He were great at everything you might say he has no room for improvement.
I don't think that's what he meant...
I think Jake was referring to Big Country’s lack of effort and refusal to train with anybody but himself. Sure there is room for improvement but if he isn’t willing to allow others to help him improve, then he will never get to the next level. He’s too self absorbed to go very far. Even if he wins TUF, i don’t see him doing anything special in the UFC.

in all fareness
I can’t see anybody from this season doing anything in the UFC. The standard was soooo low. I also don’t get the hate for Roy. Probably just because Dana said he sucked so now everybody says it. The kimbo fight wasn’t that exciting but it was a total display of dominance on the ground, which was to be expected, plus you have to remember that these guys on this show are probably pretty reluctant to give it everything because, unlike the pros, they don’t get 3 months to recover between each fight, if they won a fight then they would have to fight again a couple of weeks later, why the hell would roy stand with kimbo and risk getting his nose busted or his head rattled. Like him or not, he’s better than most of the guys on there.
In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

Agreed
Roy fought his fights and I don’t think he was out of line in anything he did. I think with his style he’ll get tooled by most of the UFC HW’s, but I still think he probably takes Schaub. If Nelson wins I see Dana throwing him to the wolves just because he doesn’t like him.

Agreed, most people criticise Nelson because Dana did on the show. Dana’s really come off terribly this series, he now looks like a moron for bashing an experienced fighter that made the final and for backing a loser who lost his only fight on the show, despite him spending the last few years telling everyone how much he sucked. Pretty pathetic from Dana in my opinion.
i dislike big country greatly
why should he get a contract even if he wins, he is uncoachable..pig headed..and just plain lazy..
Because
He is also better than everyone else.

Contracts aren't decided by how well a fighter works with others
Fedor is the greatest,
Pound 4 pound best ever,
Now get on your knees,
and bow down to the sweater.
true jay
& as much as Dana & friends dislike him for exposing his cashcow instantly, & quite frankly, embarrassingly, its not his fault. He said his gameplan quite clearly before the fight & did it perfectly.
Also, his fight last night was great & his crucifix is looking like a great obstacle.

I KNOW THAT
but if he is to continue to improve doesn’t he need to work with other people..and he could lose some fat and be better for it..he has skills that is not the issue..he is just too stubborn and it’s gonna work against him..
Country vs Schaub
Schaub has hand speed and some good skills with a great camp, much more exciting to watch than Country. I’m not much of a fan of Country, but he does posses some advantages, especially in terms of experience. I got Schaub pulling out a decision win if he can avoid the Country Belly Crucifix… Sarah I don’t think Roy’s all that lazy, more like stupid.
Good Final epsiode.
Thank god it was an entertaining show, good fights and some nice drama in the house,WAR LINDA!! lol. Can’t wait for Dec 5th.
I"m no Ned Flanders punk!!
Schaub has had 8 months to get better
Remember that the show was finished long ago. Schaub has had 8 months with a great camp to come up with escapes from side control and the crucifix position. Nelson is really slow on the feet. He got slightly out boxed by Wren who is a wrestler and has kind short reach. McSweany torn him up in the stand up. In and out bang. Schaub has more power than Sweany but is not as quick to dodge the counter. I’d open with a flying knee right after Nelson throws his first pawing jab just side step and bang end it. No way his fat ass gets out of the way.
we have a move in our gym where if a guy double legs you, on the way down you double up on one arm kinda like a kimura and pull the arm in and press your shoulder on that side to his, as you hit the mat you role to that side and take mount. It works but I have never seen it done outside of our gym. The trick is to start to turn the guy in the air before you hit the mat. All your weight ends up on the side you got the arm and they flip right over.
Quote of the season on TUF btw
McSweeney on Fight with Roy: “I dont think hes faced anybody with my level of stand up”
Youre right Arlovski has nothin on you.
Big Country by ground clinic. Schaub lasts longer in the UFC though
dude.....i am
I called these 2 being in the final before the series started, Nelson was always a lock and has performed impressively throughout, he was their to win fights not to entertain Dana and whatever you think about him he got 3 big wins and deserves his spot in the final.
Brendan is awesome, he’s got a great attitude, trains at a top camp and has well rounded skills, he’s been able to overcome adversity in all of his fights and will give Nelson a tough fight, win/lose he has a great future in the sport and is one of the few bright spots of this series, along with Marcus and Justin.
Agreed, no surprise these 2 are in the finals
Schaub at this point has a much higer ceiling, due to his being younger and a much better athlete. I can see Nelson winning this fight due mainly to his experience, but Schaub has a bright future in the UFC.
