Alistair Overeem update: Dynamite!! appearance; 2010 Strikeforce schedule
Whether it is a case of miscommunication or furtive behind-the-scenes dealing, a curious story regarding Alistair Overeem's choice of opponent for the upcoming Dynamite!! 2009 has surfaced.
As announced earlier this week, the "Demolition Man" will face Kazuyuki Fujita on New Year's Eve despite the early rumor that a bout with former UFC Heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski, has been in works. While Bas Boon from Golden Glory has stated that the negotiation for the fight between Overeem and Fujita began weeks before the K-1 World Grand Prix Final on Dec. 5, it seems that Arlovski's camp had no knowledge of such proceeding.
As Arlovski and his manager, Leo Khorlinsky, explain, they have been caught off guard by the announcement of Overeem-Fujita bout. In a video chat posted earlier this week on Arlovski's official website, Khorlinsky said that DREAM officially offered Arlovski the Overeem fight. He proceeded to elaborate on the situation: "I actually just off the phone with the Japanese person who were handling so far the communication and paperwork with me, and he basically did not have a logical explanation or any comment in regards to it."
As for Fujita as Overeem's choice of opponent, Boon explained that the hand-selection of Fujita has come about after considering Overeem's intense fighting schedule as of late: Having fought five times in two months, including a victory over Ewerton Teixeira and TKO loss to Badr Hari during the K-1 WGP, Overeem needs a prudent choice of opponent in order to curb the beleaguring effect of the recent string of fights. He also stated that he and Overeem did not have any negotiations with Andrei Arlovski for a fight.
As for Overeem's 2010 schedule, "Demolition Man" plans on taking a well-deserved break for a few months after the New Year's Eve before a K-1 bout in the Spring. Yes, you have read that correctly: He has one more fight left on his K-1 contract and will consummate the contract in March or April. Thus, to the chagrin of already disgruntled fans in the US, Overeem will not make his long overdue defense of his Strikeforce belt until later in 2010.
With Fedor Emelinanenko's next bout scheduled for April, the prospect of Fedor-Overeem bout on CBS now seems dim. To assure (!?) the fans in the US of his impending Strikeforce appearance, here is the quote Overeem delivered to Head Kick Legend: "Prepare America, Alistair is coming, 2010 will be the year of the Dutch cyclone, demolition time in the US!"
Stay tuned to MMAmania for further news regarding Alistair Overeem.

This thread will be fill of haters in no time, Aki. Thanks for the news anyway and …2010 will be the year of the Demolition Man w/o a doubt.
Do you know at which K-1 event he’ll be part of?
2010 will be his year?
Because his last performance was so steller?

Yeah riiight... like they are so many K-1 strikers on the same level than Badr Hari in Strikeforce, huh?
In his last fight he got KOed.
His last MMA win was agaisn’t James Thompson and I have never even heard of the guy before that. I just don’t see the correlation between him and a great 2010. I think he would get owned by most decent HW’s with a ground game in the UFC or Strikeforce.
Don't eat yellow snow.
lol, you know that he's a ADCC Europe champ, right?
Hey, hate him I don’t care, but I think you’re very misinformed about him.
Okay
Lets take 3 fighters from SF only and tell me who would win on the ground.
Fedor (obvious)
Bigfoot
Werdum (already subbed him)
hmm…
Don't eat yellow snow.
We all know he got subbed due to extreme
gassing which was always attributed to his weight cut. That was a straight up white belt kimura from guard. Regardless, i think he offers stylistic problems to all those guys. And finally he’s one of the few fighters in the world with a proven and crisp guillotine which someone here once described as the sub equivalent to one Punch KO power. I totally agree. I think out of those three only Fedor beats him.

What’s wrong with you? you try to always get the last word? IMO 2010 will be his year.(opinion). like I told you you’re very misinformed about him..Werdum fight was a the very beginning of his builking. Now way that Werdum could win that fight on the ground or on the stand up these day. I’m a huge Big Foot fan and I’m telling you that he got nothing to scare the demolition Man in either departement. Only Fedor could give him trouble IMO.
Sorry...
Didn’t know I had to stop posting after you gave your opinion. I happen to have a different one. And your condecending posts will get me to engage in a debate. I guess we will never find out though because he is too busy juicing and hiding in Japan.
Don't eat yellow snow.
My bad BNF, I thought that you were trolling. I didn’t know that you only wanted to debate.
lol, I find that funny how peoples always talk about him like he’s a cheater w/o having any proof to back what they’re saying. I don’t think that his bulking was b/c of roids. He was draining himself for fighting at 205 before and he never had lifted weights either. He packed 40 lbs over 3 years of trainings and that’s very possible to do when you’re still young. Frank Mir on the other hand did packed 20lbs in 4 months after his growth…that’s suspicious IMO.
You will see he’ll come to America and after a win, y’all gonna get on board of the Demolition Man wagon.
All good Alpha
I am far from a troll. I’ve been on this site for a long time. All the way back to UFCmania. I just like to mix it up sometimes.
As far as the roid thing we have no proof, but you have to admit he is suspect. I work out and don’t know any weights that make your head bigger, roids does, reference Barry Bonds.
If he comes and starts KOing doods and tests clean I will concede to his greatness, but I refuse to join the wagon.
Don't eat yellow snow.
lol, fair enough! I don’t find him suspect b/c I got big like he is w/o roiding. I played football in the Division 1 AA and I’ve seen monster DL and OL like him all over the league and none of them were supposed to be roiding. So why should I doubts him? Call me naive, but I find this normal, to easily packed 40 lbs of muscles when you never trained before. Also it’s normal to make a little water retention when your training and that’s what could explained the appearance of bigger cheeks or a larger head. I’m not saying that he’s completely innocent, like I’m not saying that he’s guilty…I give him the benefit of the doubt.
Dude, He packed 40 lbs while he was old.
Being 26 or something and have your whole bone structure change isn’t natural or possible, you’re done growing. It’s like saying Forrest Griffin or Tito could’ve been the next Ubereem’s because they’re so big and heavy at LHW, noway.
Are you talking about Mir or Overeem, Roberto?
Because the both packed on massive amounts of muscle. Only difference being Overeem did it over a few years and Mir did it in 6 months. Who did you say was on the juice?
RoB
First, your body stop growing in the early stage of 20s. True he was 25 when he stated to get bigger, but he was still young and you can easily get bigger( packing weights/ muscles mass) when you’re at a younger age than when you’re in your 30’s. The bone structure doesn’t really differ for the density from one human being to another, it’s the length that differ. His bone structure never changed. Overeem is 6’5 and was at 6’5 when he was fighting at 205. He gained 40 lbs in 3 years, but in reality he gained 30lbs in 1 year of hard training. He was at 224 when he fought Buentello and at 253 when he fought Badr the first time. Gaining 29 lbs in 1 year of training when you never lifted weights before in your entire life is very probable do doing it w/o the roids. Gaining 30 lbs in 1 year when you always did lifted weights, but for different purposes than only get bigger (fighters training), like a fighter usually do… it’s suspect. That’s why IMO Overeem is less than a suspect than Mur. Tito and Forrest are in their 30s. At 6’2" and 6’3" if they would wanted to get bigger at this stage of their career by changing their training regiments (programs to gain mass) it would be extremely difficult to doing it in 1 year, but they could achieved the same results than Overeem within 3 to 5 years of training. They won’t get bigger b/c of their heights, but they could get as big than he is w/o problems.
I can only speak for myself Alpha in that I like Overeem and am frustrated by the fact that I cannot see him fight. His long absence is eroding the credibility of the belt considering that he is not currently injured.
That was lost over a year ago
At least he has still been fighting. Strikeforce has to man up and strip the title, then if he wants to return he’ll have to contact them. He has the bargaining chip at the moment and Scott’s been doing SFA to get it sorted
Nothing against Coker and strikeforce
I don’t think Overeem would lose any sleep at being kicked out of Strikeforce.
Nah he wouldn't, he makes a ton more money in Japan
with his FEG contract/s.

You’re frustrated for the wrong reasons OJ, He’s fighting a lot outside of strikeforce and you got to understand like peoples seems to forget… that Strikeforce didn’t had many good good HW’s on their roster prior the Affliction folding and Coker wasn’t thinking of renewing his contract at that time. So it’s not his fault if he wasn’t fighting in the US b/c of the lack of opponents and also that he didn’t had any contract. The guy fights more than anyone else and yet he keeps getting heat from less educated fans that doesn’t seems to understand what is really going on behind the scene.
That's a poor excuse...
Overeem didn’t have any good HW’s to defend his title?? That’s like saying Anderson Silva shouldn’t fight because he has no one good to fight against. Wanting to see someone “defend” his title is not ‘hating’, its what ALL fans want to see…SF, UFC, XFC or whatever promotion.
Overeem doesn't fight in the US because he doesn't want to.
It’s as simple as that, they cannot force him to fight for Strikeforce. All they have to do is to strip him off his belt. Ubereem participating in the K-1 GP finals was great, he should stay there and stay in Japan so he can keep on juicing. SF is too small of an organization for Overeem.
You're completely right Champ...I want to see champions defending their belts also.
But it was not an excuse…Strikeforce didn’t had any HW’s as #1 contender. It’s not him who was ducking the fights, strikeforce didn’t had any opponents. That’s a different story. Please tell me who last year do you think he should have fought in that organisation?
Plus like I said many times… you can’t fight for an organisation if you don’t have any contract, right? That was his case he didn’t had any.
Here the reason why, strait from him….
“My contract with Strikeforce was only made about three months before the incident, I think they let me fight against (Vitor)Belfort and Paul (Buentello) to lose, but I won. Normally in a contract it says you have to defend your title within a certain period. But my contract just ended there. As I had a long term contract with FEG, I kept fighting for Dream and K-1. It’s ironic that we finally got an offer from Strikeforce and reached an agreement, and I get in some stupid brawl and cut my hand. In jail it got infected and it took longer than expected.”
Agree Alpha
Remember the way they crowned him champ too. They had to run a four man tournament. That’s how weak their HW division was. And excellent quote. I’ve been looking for that for a while seeing how everyone seems to think that he’s breaking all kinds of contractual agreements to duck strikeforce fighters or fighting in the US. That’s all bs.

OVEREEM USES PED's!
Unfortunately Overeem has been using PED’s in Japan where they do not test. Hence his large weight and size gain. He is not ready to come to the usa regardles.. He must be drug free and still be able to compete with the heavyweights in the US. He will struggle as did many fighters when they first came from pride. WE TEST in the USA! He will have to drop in weight for sure. He is a great fighter no doubt but the strength and size will be an issue with out juice.
Give the cheater a break
He needs lots of time to get off all the drugs so naturally itll take a long time until he fights in the US again

coker said he was going to strip him if he didn’t fight/defend his SF title by the 1rst quarter of 2010. well, why wait, b/c he aint going to do it.
the responsibility does fall on SF, they need to take control. Fedor Vs Rodgers SHOULD have been for the SF title imo. it’s starting to become a joke.
damn
u guys be going at it with eachother ill stick to bloodyelbow where dudes aren’t all psycho with it.

Who cares about this roid monkey
He is gonna get his ass kicked when he comes back to strikeforce anyways. That is if he has the balls to come back defend his paper belt, I highly doubt he has any balls left after all the roids he has done.
Its certainly deflating. The answers are needed soon to the far too many questions surrounding him and the coveted belt. I hope its straightened out soon, as this has been a long time coming.

SF should strip Overroids of the belt
The whole situation is farcical and they have far better HWs to fight for the belt anyway. Let Overroids continue competing in a different sport and against cans in Japan and Holland whilst he’s roided up, SF don’t need him to be a success.

David strikeforce needs him more than you think. Here’s a quote that the guy at Head Kick Legend said:
“The tone I got from Bas.. Was that they are reigning in Alistair. If it were up to him he’d be fighting weekly, they understand the kind of cash cow they have on their hands (Boon mentioned all of the marketing and sponsorship offers they’ve gotten since the WGP), so they feel they need to hand select his career.”
Head Kick Legend
I had a feeling he was ducking Arlovski for this fight,
I didn’t expect them to admit it though! True Fugita is an easier fight, maybe we will see AA and Overeem when Alistair feels the time is right and he is better rested. I hope this does not backfire on him though, Fugita is still dangerous.
'How's taste my pee pee pee?'
lol
I can’t wait for him to fight AA fight also. Fujita is dead meat brother, I doubt that he can do anything to stop him.
$#!T or get off the pot already...
When is this guy going do defend his Strikeforce belt again? I mean, it might not be binding in his contract to do so (reportedly), but holding the belt hostage like that is lame. Especially since he’s fighting all of these other bouts all around the world and whenever Strikeforce comes calling, he’s always injured. Strikeforce should just strip him already and make him come get the belt back if he wants it.
If he’s that good, it should be no problem, right? I don’t know much about the guy. I’ve only seen a couple of his fights so I’m neither a fan or a hater. It just seems like bad business for Strikeforce to let him string them along like this. Hopefully, they’ll get their contracts double-proofed to make sure that there’s a mandatory time frame to fight, especially for titleholders.
