Bang! Duane Ludwig steps up to face Jim Miller at UFC 108 with Sean Sherk hurt
Well when it rains, it pours
It's hard to imagine, but the injury-riddled UFC 108: "Evans vs. Silva" fight card has sustained yet another blow. However, the promotion has shifted seamlessly on the fly to minimize the damage.
The Northwest Indiana Times is reporting that Sean Sherk is off the UFC 108 card after sustaining a sever forehead laceration and that mixed martial arts veteran Duane Ludwig has answered the call to fill in for "The Muscle Shark" against Jim Miller.
The former lightweight champion was actually filling in for Tyson Griffin after originally being penciled in against Rafael Oliveira on the same card.
Ludwig will return to the UFC for the first time since 2006, when he stopped Jonathan Goulet just 11 seconds into the first round of their bout at Ultimate Fight Night 3. Since then, Ludwig has compiled a 8-5 record competing primarily under the Strikeforce banner.
Miller is fresh off a technical knockout win over Steve Lopez at UFC 103 back in Sept., during which Lopez and his shoulder decided to part ways early into the second round, effectively halting the bout. It marked the fifth fight for the New Jersey product inside the Octagon and his fourth win.
A unanimous decision loss to the streaking Gray Maynard at UFC 96 back on March 7 is the only blip during that span. His other wins include Matt Wiman and David Baron.

Holy Crap...
How long would Sherk have been training for this…, 6 days or so?
Injury bugs are catchy like H1N1 right now.
Took risks betting on the dogs @ 107 - Thank god for Hendricks, Wiman, Palhares and good'ol reliable Jon Fitch UD! Could have been a lot worse.
Sherk was already training
For Oliveria, then he stepped up to fight Miller with Griffin getting injured
main event
which main event fighter is rumored to be hurt…and how badly?

ankle
I was under the impression it was his ankle. And ya, I dunno if I’d by his, or any camp saying that ’he’s not injured’. I feel all camps and fighters say that pre fight, as to not give any weaknesses their opponents can capitalize on.

the camp will deny any injuries to their fighters.
you won’t come out with what injuries you have until after the fight.
just hope it’s not a serious injury ’cause i really want Thiago to lay Rashad out and be successful in his UFC career, a bad loss here because he stepped in injured would be hard to take.
Whatch how fast they change their tune
if Silva loses!
Get over it.

Alpha
Know what’s awesome is I msg’d a few buddies to fill em in about Ludwig stepping in, and got a “aww fuck”, or “that’s gay” from all except one who said “Bang Ludwig is no joke man”. Guess who his favorite fighter is?
I said that a guy on Mania warned me about this. Ha ha

Why's that?
Does Bang train with BJ for standup or something? I’ve been real impressed with the Miller brothers. Tough and gritty fighters. I’ll be rooting for Jim
Seen Bang fight a few times, he smashed Tony Freak Fryklund (however ya spell it) didn’t he a few years back? I remember seeing it on tv here in Ireland. Does doesn’t happen much unless its UFC
BJ smashed Bang
So his fans like to big up Bang Ludwig as it makes BJ’s easy win over him look more impressive.

108 will be a flop for PPV numbers
and I was complaining that I bought 106 tickets. Ouch.
honestly
I’d have to say I’m more interested in SF this weekend then this card. Geez could you imagine if Thiago did pull out? What would they do? Lol

Why not use the guy who beat him?
On that Strikeforce undercard in Seattle few months back, I think his name is Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbaum
Fancy Pants is a legit up and comer
he might be signed and not available for uFC

What actually would need to happen for a card to be cancelled or postponed? I mean personally if I had tickets for an event and amy main event fighter pulls out I would want it to be rescheduled or a chance at my money back?

Generally
Generally most organizations have changes in the card covered with “card subject to change.” Most of them can find loopholes in terms of replacing a main event if a fighter is injured far enough out. However, in the case of Affliction, they’d had their main event scheduled for months and the marketing involved as well only for a steroid test to kill that. I honestly can’t remember a UFC card being cancelled since they have a deep enough roster to change it around.
They definitely have a deep roster. But I don’t see how they could pass this as a card worthy of 10 bucks lil loan 50 if Thiago pulled out. Doesn’t surprise me at all that they are rumored to be paying him handsomely to stay afloat.
