UFC Quick Quote: The 'Nightmare' has a new dream

1311982_bin_medium

"To be honest I’m really f’nnnn pist off I hate losing and am more hungry for victory than ever ... All I can think about is working my way back to earn another shot at Bj Penn. My dream has changed it is no longer just become ufc champion it is to fight Bj Penn again. I will put my heart and soul into this!!! Im on a mission now. All you doubters shut up and watch me!"

-- Former UFC number one lightweight contender Diego Sanchez tweeted yesterday on TwitLonger.com that his dream of becoming a UFC champion might not be burning as brightly inside his heart as his desire to rematch B.J. Penn. Lucky for Sanchez, he can kill two birds with one stone by earning another title shot. After all, based on Penn’s destruction of "Nightmare" at UFC 107, does anyone really think there’s another lightweight out there capable of dethroning "The Prodigy"? While it’s too soon to tell what road Sanchez will need to take to work his way back into title contention, this writer would like to point toward the obvious: Isn’t it time we saw Sanchez vs. Florian 2?

Sanchez vs Florian 2

Winner gets the results of Penn vs. Aldo….if it ever happens.

why woul penn fight aldo?

honestly aldo hasnt fought anyone awesome. yeah he beat the guy who beat the wec poster boy…but lets wait on the aldo/penn fight talk.. if aldo wanted to fight penn he’d first have to step up to the ufc and to the light weight divison in general. aaannnd they are both nova uniao black belts..same moves…diferent caliber..guess who is the better of the two? i’ll give you a hint..this one was the only fighter in the ufc to hold the lightweight belt and the welter weight belt…

aldo/penn is premature

Aldo is 22yrs old, don’t know if his path will cross with Penn’s, I hope by 25-26yrs of age Aldo has put on more muscle and enters the 155lb UFC division. By then I think Aldo will give BJ a run for his money, but BJ may be at this peak for the next few yrs only… who knows?

by THORAZINE on Dec 17, 2009 10:47 PM EST up reply actions

hmmm..

i would like to see aldo get by faber first. just for good measure. then enter the ufc and see what happens. as for the run for his money talk thats more up to father time than aldos “good” record.

Faber?

I want to see Mike Brown get a rematch with Aldo.

by Saevus Antistes on Dec 18, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

well, do you think browns style will have changed enough to catch aldo?

probably not. but faber has an exciting scrappy style as aldo does. different but both scrappy. dont get me wrong i think brown beats faber 7 out of 10 times. aldo kind of shat on brown.

by Omoplato on Dec 18, 2009 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed...but,

It was a single shot that lead to a quick pound-out in the Aldo/Brown fight….and anyone can get caught. It wasn’t a 5 round dismantling of the champ.
Faber v. Aldo (and a win by Faber) is the only way we will see Faber v. Brown III, so putting the CA kid next in line will probably make all the Faber nuthuggers happy. I say Brown beats him (Faber) again.

by Saevus Antistes on Dec 21, 2009 12:23 PM EST up reply actions

i kinda disagree saevus

aldo was way more technical and much quicker.. once aldo had back control it was over… just because someone has back control does not mean its over..brown was getting beat by a beast. handds down… brown loses to aldo 9 out of 10. faber and aldo is much more exciting..although aldo would win that fight..exciting nonetheless

I believe him.

And I feel sorry for everyone who gets in his way. Someone on here gave me crap because I said Diego looked awesome. But I stand by that statement. Did he get his @$$ kicked? Yes. But he went almost five rounds with BJ at 155. It would have been five if the doctor hadn’t stopped it. Diego wouldn’t quit. He kept pressing BJ against the cage and landed a few good shots throughout the entire fight. Even though he was completely outclassed, he brought it. I don’t think anyone else BJ fights at 155 anytime soon will take him to the fifth round. GSP could at 170 by layNpray.

Get over it.

lol

diego had no chance at any point and time in that fight you said Diego wouldn’t quit. He kept pressing BJ against the cage and landed a few good shots throughout the entire fight. not really he was pretty much running from bj the whole fight he never had a chance and if they fight again it will end up the same except it wont go to the fifth round this time bj will finish him off in the first like he should have the first time.

by perm85 on Dec 17, 2009 6:56 PM EST up reply actions

Diego is going to mindfuck himself again

He mindfucked himself in the KOS fight and also in the JB Penn fight. He should have did a few yes cartwheels in the ring as that would probably have mustered more damage or perhaps a response from the crowd. He doesn’t have the skill set yet…..

I’d love to see Cerrone come over for a match with JB. That would be exciting.

by hairybumcrack on Dec 17, 2009 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

he landed 8 shots

through out the whole 22ish minutes they fought. thats isnt really considered a few..

by Omoplato on Dec 18, 2009 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

No doubt. I think both fighters are great. Sanchez showed heart and kept moving forward. Looking forward to seeing him fight kenflo again. I think at this point, that fight could be a coin flip.

by kden808 on Dec 18, 2009 2:58 AM EST up reply actions

Really

Diego you really want to get your ass kicked again, at no point in that fight was he even close to mounting any offence on bj.

by mma guru on Dec 17, 2009 4:23 PM EST reply actions

Same Shit Different Weight Class

155, 170 and 185, all weight classes where the challengers (bar maybe Vitor/Nate @185) wont even challenge the current champion.

by irishlilpete on Dec 17, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

This is as crazy as BJ calling out St. Pierre again.

I wouldn’t mind watching this fight again. It was closer than the BJ/GSP fight, and BJ seems to think he should get another crack.

Not only for one day anymore Sarah. LOL

by jay. on Dec 17, 2009 4:35 PM EST up reply actions

Diego's face tells a different story

Bj put a bigger beatdown on diego, and dana already said bj has to beat the number 1 contender at the time and defend his lw belt at least once more to fight for the ww belt again.

by mma guru on Dec 17, 2009 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

You don't judge domination by a cut do you?

GSP controlled BJ for 20 minutes straight, and made him quit. Did Diego quit?

Not only for one day anymore Sarah. LOL

by jay. on Dec 17, 2009 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

No telling

No telling what BJ would have looked like if he had come out for the 5th against GSP. He looked like Ali after Larry Holmes knocked him into retirement.

by TapedUpPair on Dec 17, 2009 5:18 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

What does a cut or face make for a fight decision????

Did you see Fitch after his fight??? Oh, he did win but everyone probably missed that since they all fell asleep.

GSP’s face was f’d up after the first GSP/JB tangle thanks to some eye poking but a good shot to the nose as well – we all know who won that (well most of us do except for the JB non-believers).

by hairybumcrack on Dec 17, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I do. Mainly because no one has done that to Diego before. Not Kos and not Fitch. And, I’m glad Diego wants another shot at the champ. Any real fighter should want as many shots as possible to get the belt.

by kden808 on Dec 18, 2009 3:03 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think it is that crazy

You can improve on your gameplan and mistakes a second time around, but I do think a third shot is crazy, because what would a fighter do different to win from the second time they fought and lost. Florian was amazing against Guida even though many fans seemed to have ignored that win, and I would not mind seeing him fight Penn again with a different gameplan. He truly believed that he could wear BJ out with those tactics, but he was dead wrong, Now that he realises this, and being able to see BJ go five rounds quite easily with Diego, he might well come up with a more aggressive strategy to make it a more interesting fight. Someone seriously needs to tape up his brothers mouth, he is so f’ckn annoying.

by Ade on Dec 18, 2009 4:40 AM EST up reply actions

hey

Gsp kicked bjs ass the 2nd time all fight and bj wants another crack at him.

by Phenomenal Angel on Dec 17, 2009 5:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

All you doubters?

All the doubts that thought BJ would kick your ass once – think BJ will kick your ass again.

It’s pretty obvious that BJ is in a whole different world when compared to Diego. One of the greatest grapplers ever split your face apart like it was a secondary Vag.

I wanna see Diego vs. Florian 2.

by Luppers on Dec 17, 2009 4:28 PM EST reply actions

Your pist off, why?

You should be happy BJ let you live you sorry piece of crap!

haha yes

imagine if BJ thought Diego deserved it

by wandwagon on Dec 17, 2009 4:53 PM EST up reply actions

Loved watching The Prodigy shut Diego’s mouth and splitting his melon open!
This ranks as my second favorite fight of the year just behind Hendo playing Sandman to Bisping!

by Sofa-King-Toasty on Dec 17, 2009 4:42 PM EST via mobile reply actions

i like his attitude but the fight wan’t even close he has alot of work to do, and that being said i still think he is probally the 2nd best lw that the ufc has.

by roy1 on Dec 17, 2009 4:46 PM EST reply actions

Great Wording Diego!

If you’ll all notice, he doesn’t say anything about beating BJ. He just says, “…My dream has changed it is no longer just become ufc champion it is to fight Bj Penn again…”
So, yeah, he’ll put his heart and his soul into fighting BJ again, he just doesn’t have the heart and soul to actually beat BJ. Doesn’t he have to ask BJ for his heart and sould back anyway?
This was probably one of the most satisfying fights I’ve seen this year. If you haven’t guessed, I’m not a big fan of Diego’s.

by rhinograph on Dec 17, 2009 5:13 PM EST reply actions

Beat kenflo,Edgar,Maynard,Griffin,Sherk not all in that order then maybe you will get a shot at BJ Penn again as Georges St Pierre said it best “I was not impressed by your preformance” so do it “Nightmare” prove the doubters wrong…….

by nlinesk8er28 on Dec 17, 2009 5:21 PM EST reply actions

diego stop!

go back to greg jacksons camp. you should have listened to him and dropped to 155 in house. After hearing the advice riberio gave him in between rounds, he has no buisness training diego. get with a real camp. diego could have prepared with gsp and co. at this rate diego would get killed by florian

by day1er on Dec 17, 2009 6:11 PM EST reply actions

I was just going to say the same thing

Leaving Jackson was a huge mistake.

Diego will be soul searching for a long time.

I bet he will lose again too to someone in the top 10.

by DubNub on Dec 17, 2009 6:37 PM EST up reply actions

He left because GSP showed up.

They were both WW’s and Diego knew he was always going to be number 2, so he booked it.

Not only for one day anymore Sarah. LOL

by jay. on Dec 17, 2009 6:41 PM EST up reply actions

him having his bjj coach as his main cornerman was ridiculous

“you gotta take him down, you gotta take him down…set it up, set it up, seeeet it up”
thanks for the help buddy.

by wandwagon on Dec 17, 2009 7:49 PM EST up reply actions

now he's sounding like BJ Penn

and his never ending battle to beat GSP. I almost feel bad for BJ because I think overall BJ is the better martial artist but he doesn’t seem to be able to stop GSPs takedowns.

by kibbled_bits on Dec 17, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

No one can stop Gsp’s takedowns. I think that Bj probably stayed on his feet the longest but as of today, I think Gsp has the best ground and pound in the business.

by kden808 on Dec 18, 2009 3:07 AM EST up reply actions

So we have:

Diego obsessed with BJ
BJ obsessed with GSP
Mir obsessed with Lesnar

Lol

After watching the Penn/Sanchez fight a few times, some things crack me up.

First, Diego Sanchez’s brother LOOKS FUCKING TERRIFIED before the match.

Diego’s corner is a total joke. They shoulda told him to leg-kick BJ’s lead left leg with his lead right leg. His boxing was really bad. When he got knocked out in the first round, wtf was he doing? He threw three straight jabs with his head sticking up stationary.

What else I got? Hmm.

Oh yeah: Why does Joe Rogan dress like a gay dude from Dallas? Look at him interviewing BJ. FFS…

lol Diego

I want GS BJ rematch. no lube

by BJPennfan on Dec 17, 2009 10:33 PM EST reply actions

Diego that is funny stuff!

Diego,,, C’mon! u wanting to fight BJ again is like BJ wanting to fight GSP! UR asking for a beating!!

by THORAZINE on Dec 17, 2009 11:14 PM EST reply actions

Diego wanting to fight Penn again is no different from Florian or Sherk or Joe Daddy. They all want a 2nd shot and if they work hard, they’ll get it.

by kden808 on Dec 18, 2009 3:10 AM EST reply actions

He is worthy of a rematch.....

Eventually. But he needs to beat some of the top guys and “evolve” as a fighter likes he likes to claim most of his opponents don’t do. He got by fighting his style against most of the others but obviously that wasn’t nearly good enough with BJ Penn. He needs to dominate guys not just win decisions against top comp before getting that shot again.

With that said, props to Diego for hanging tough in a fight where he took a pretty good beating. He is a warrior in a sense but does he have the intelligence that can overcome his stubborness to actually fight strategically but not so much as to make a boring fight??
