Din Thomas vs Ricardo Mayorga in the works for 'Shine III' in March 2010

Thomas-mayorga_medium
Former UFC lightweight Din Thomas is in talks to welcome former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga to the world of mixed martial arts at the upcoming third event from the Shine Fights promotion, which is expected to go down in March 2010 at a venue to be named.

MMAmania.com confirmed the match-up was under consideration earlier today.

"Dinyero" was a top contender in the stacked UFC 155-pound division prior to back-to-back losses to Kenny Florian (because he blew out his knee during the fight) and Josh Neer. Following that, Thomas announced his desire to compete at 145 pounds.

He never got the chance.

Thomas was given his pink slip in May 2008 along with Travis Lutter, David Heath, Kalib Starnes, Joe Doerksen and John Halverson. Since then, he scored a submission win (triangle choke) over Dustin Pierkin at Headhunter Productions "The Patriot Act" back in February followed by a TKO victory (knee) over Gabe Lemley at "March Badness" just over a month later.

Star-divide

Affliction MMA quickly scooped him up for their August "Trilogy" event, but we all know how that turned out.

Still, the 32-fight veteran can get back into the headlines with a big win over the boxing bad boy. In addition to his run as WBA/WBC welterweight champion and WBC junior middleweight champion, the 28-7-1 pugilist was equally famous for his colorful personality.

We know he can punch -- and take a punch -- but will he have anything to offer Thomas on the ground? You can bet the Nicaraguan has no intentions of letting it get there.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates to the still-developing Shine III fight card, which is expected to feature main card bouts pitting Hector Lombard versus Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira and Luiz Azeredo against Luiz "Buscape" Firmino.

I thought that at first to

But the more i think about this is a good fight to show where he is at….if he can manage to beat din thomas and survive on the ground with him it shows he can do somthing in this sport

The ground is irrelevant, Din is winning the standup.

Easiest way to smoke a boxer in MMA or kickboxing is to leg kick him. Boxer have zero bone conditioning on their legs so ten of them will chop him down easy. Refer to Sakuraba’s fight against Rubins, or at a higher level just recently Kharitonov vs Ghita.

They're going to stand and Mayorga is going to knock him out.

Happy to see Luiz Azeredo’s name, he was my favorite LW in Pride. I always wanted him to take both Gomi and Hansen’s heads off, but he was unlucky in those fights.

Classic

“send him back to his fruit stand in Nicaragua. He will be wearing a straw hat, smoking cigarettes, and selling bananas once and for all.” – Din Thomas

Let go to early by UFC

I always thought Din Thomas was let go to early by the UFC, and wondered why he didn’t re-emerge at 145lbs in the WEC?
