According to mmajunkie, Ricardo Ameida's welterweight debut is targeted for UFC 111, in Newark, NJ.
Sources have confirmed that Thiago Alves is rumored to be Almeida's opponent at UFC 111. If for some reason this fight doesnt materialize, then both Alves and Ameida will still be on the UFC 111 card, matched up against other opponents. However, as of now, all signs are pointing to an Alves vs. Almeida showdown!
A knee injury forced Almeida out of his 10h bout with Jon fitch, postponing his welterweight debut.
"I was able to start running again in the past week, so I've been getting running in – sometimes twice a day – just trying to get my weight down again," Almeida said. "I'm probably around like 195 pounds right now, so I'm just trying to get my weight down so I can start a training camp already in shape.
"I've been running, swimming. I can't really grapple yet, but I'm already hitting the mitts."
Almeida vs. Alves would be a classic grappler vs. striker match up that will pair the best Muy Tai against the best Ju Jitsu that the welterweight division h6as to offer. Interesting to see how it plays out.
