UFC 110 bouts announced for Australia on the heels of second-fastest arena sellout in promotion history

Nog-cain_medium
UFC 110 has been officially announced with a total of six fights confirmed for the promotion's first ever trip "down under" on Feb. 21 at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.

I don't want to say the Aussies are pumped for some cage fighting, but the Acer Arena sold all 16,500 tickets for the upcoming event on the first day they went up for public sale -- before the promotion even confirmed a single match for fight night.

Those numbers put UFC 110 behind only UFC 83 in Montreal, Canada, in April 2008 as the fastest selling event in Zuffa history.

From UFC’s Managing Director of International Development, Marshall Zelaznik:

"We knew we had an unbelievably passionate fanbase in Australia, but we are blown away by the speed of the sell-out. We had a massive uptake of tickets to the Australian members of our Fight Club and newsletter readers, and tickets were completely gone within hours of going on sale to the public. What is even more incredible is that we completely sold out without even confirming a single fight on the card. Our fans trust us to bring the very best fights and fighters Down Under and we are delighted to reward that trust in us with what is already a frontrunner for the card of the New Year with UFC 110."

The main event for UFC 110 pits Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez in a bout that could determine the next heavyweight number one contender. In the co-main event, Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva will try to put TUF grad Michael Bisping down for "The Count."

Here is the current UFC 110 line up:

Star-divide

Main event:

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez

Main card (Televised):

Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva
Keith Jardine vs. Ryan Bader
Joe Stevenson vs. George Sotiropoulos
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Ben Rothwell

Under card (May not be broadcast):

Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski*
Chris Lytle vs. TBA*
Elvis Sinosic vs. Chris Haseman
James Te Huna vs. Igor Pokrajac*

*Fight not yet officially confirmed by UFC.com.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more fight announcements in the coming weeks. In the meantime, get up to speed on UFC 110 by checking out our archive here.

Wow...Great Card!

One of the best this year I’d say

by UGotChrisBrowned on Dec 15, 2009 10:21 AM EST reply actions

Looks great

We will see how Cain does against the best HW JJ artist, I’m expecting a great fight either way. Wandy is almost never in a boring fight and is well rested, I’m looking for him to finish bisping late in the second. Bader took a big leap here in talent but even if he loses will be a great learning lesson, the winner of this fight I would like to see face Bones. Stevenson should have few problems and hopefully Cro Cop can gain some much needed confidence loser of this fight I think will be out of the UFC.

Well...

Actually it is one of the best next year, I’d say ;-).

106 in the UK sold very quickly for saying the card was so s**t

I really dont understand why Dana has to give tickets away for most of the US ones. Very strange indeed

by Dazz on Dec 15, 2009 10:36 AM EST reply actions

A lot has to do with times Dazz

It’s a lot more economical to watch it at a bar or from home especially with many out of jobs and many saving for Xmas. Unless the card is stacked many can’t justify spendy the hunderds of dollars right now.

Second fastest sellout? Pffffttttt.

Great card

Hopefully Bonnar vs Krziysrztosf happens. I like em both. If Bonnar loses he should be cut, but probably won’t (be cut).

Hope Jardine and Joe Daddy both lose. I’m so tired of them.

by lavis on Dec 15, 2009 11:03 AM EST reply actions

My picks (at this early stage)

Big Nog,
Cain lacks power in his punches and, bar the mir fight, has a cast iron jaw and is extremely dangerous off of his back, as well as having decent boxing.

Wandy vs Bisping
is, for me the toughest fight to call, depends on, which Bisping shows up, and how the cut to 185 has effected Wandy, but it’ll probably be easier to decide those things closer to fight time.

Bader over Jardine
Bader has SERIOUS power and good wrestling, and if he turns up with half the momentum he had in the Schafer fight, good night Jardine.

don’t know much about Soturopolis

and I hope for a Cro Cop victory, it should be against Big Ben anyway, I would love nothing more than to see just one last Coma enducing head kick come from the croation sensation.

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

I underestimated the deadly skills of one of the greatest HWs in the world, Frank Mir. I wrote that because I lost a bet but honestly, he really did impress me. I'm well on the Frank wagon

I've heard plenty of people call Cro cop the Croation sensation

They are both Croation and have both at times been sensational.

Cro Cop is a rare case though where his nickname is more his name than his actual name, who calls him Mirko Filipovic?

Sotiropoulos

He’s been looking like a beast on the ground lately. I think he beats Stevenson.

Good picks but I think Cain will be to much for Nog – to young, to strong. Nog won’t be able to hit the switches like he did against Couture.

by HappyLittleTreez on Dec 15, 2009 11:18 AM EST up reply actions

Brown Pride’s stand-up is shit. Nog will take him apart on the feet until BP tries for the takedown, then hopes he doesn’t get triangled.

Brown Pride P-Dub is looking better everytime though?

I think it’s going to be a close fight but you may very well be right.

by Puck Head on Dec 15, 2009 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

I just don’t think he’s done anything to be considered an elite fighter at this point. I reserve the right to change my mind with a no-doubt win over Nog, however.

His potential is exciting

but your right he has some holes in his game and needs to improve his stand up. I’m sure he will and thats why I’m expecting a good fight even if he loses I don’t think it will be in the first round. If he can get NOG to the ground and wear on NOG with out getting caught in a sub he has a chance to grind this one out and win by decision. NOG doesn’t have the most powerfull hands either that will make Cain really pay for a sub par stand up and I think cain is skilled enough to avoid getting submitted. This fight easily can easily end up much like NOG’s last fight if Cain is unable to control NOG. I’m leaning towards NOG in this one myself but I think it will be close.

by Puck Head on Dec 15, 2009 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

Looks like a good line up!

I’m really looking forward to Bisping vs Silva should be a good one. If Bisping doesn’t get caught early like he did against Henderson. That was a great moment in UFC history for sure!

YOU F**KIN BEAUTY . . . .

What a card! Thank you Dana :)

A have Valazquez, Bisping, Bader, Sotiropoulos . . . even though I look at all of these fights and think it could go either way. Should be a great night, can not wait to finally see it live!

by DownUnder on Dec 15, 2009 1:27 PM EST reply actions

good card, can’t wait.

by detroit_fan on Dec 15, 2009 1:36 PM EST reply actions

Great card, the Aussies are getting hooked up!

110 is much better than 108 & 109, which are historically the biggest cards of the year—no wonder it sold out so fast. All of the main card fights are pretty exciting and could go either way, although I’d be shocked if Nog and Wanderlei lose.

I’m surprised since a lot of Aussies tend to not know what UFC is.
