Alan Belcher: I'm the only person with the style to stand with (and beat) Anderson Silva (Video)

I'm pretty sure squishing "The Spider" would get him on a UFC poster...

Alan Belcher's Confidence

I love his confidence.
At least he’s not shy. But a quick look at his record, I think Grove, Okami and Jason Day begs to differ. Besides that, doing well against Kang and Akiyama doesn’t necessarily means he would do well against top MW fighters like Henderson*, Marquardt, Franklin** and Belfort.

*Yeah, I’ll still include Henderson name there.

  • Franklin is a 185, 195, 205lbs. fighter, just not a 205 contender.

If Belcher could get past anyone in the top 10, he might have something worth listening to

Until then he’s just another confused wanna be.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

lmfao i almost didnt watch this video because i couldnt stop laughing at the heading

They should make a kendall grove and belcher rematch…it was a good match and if he could beat grove it would show how much he has improved because grove is a tough fighter that is alot better then the last time he beat belcher

Alan Belcher is officially the most deluded fighter in MMA history

He isn’t even worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Anderson Silva, he can’t even beat Da Spyder nevermind the legendary Andy.

Patrick Cote is still the Most Deluded

Don’t forget that Patrick Cote is in fact the most deluded fighter. After his non-fight against Anderson Silva he declared, “I think I fucked him up really bad.”

BTW, I love those Before and After Tito statements!

LOL

There’s nothing wrong with his confidence, they all need that. But people are blindly believing him. Anyone who gets KO’d by Jason Day should be dropped from fighting professionally ever again. Belcher should have been dropped years ago. Can’t wait until he fights someone worth a damn.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

My thoughts EXACTLY McArthur

why do fighters make these rediculous claims? He just beat up Wilson Gov and now he thinks he can better A Silva on the feet. Belcher must be high or stupid or both, I’m going with both judging by his hair cut. If he ever even gets near a title shot I’ll be shocked.

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

I underestimated the deadly skills of one of the greatest HWs in the world, Frank Mir. I wrote that because I lost a bet but honestly, he really did impress me. I'm well on the Frank wagon

Big difference between standing there and letting Gouveia punch you in the face and Silva punching you in the face.

I hate Belcher

Over ranking himself, again. You haven’t looked impressive yet.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

Exactly...

what I was thinking. Yeah Belcher, you have an impressive ability to eat punches and keep coming forward, but I HIGHLY doubt that is a good strategy when facing Silva.

He was catching huge shots from Willy G, and he thinks he’s ready for Silva. That would end with the first decapitation in MMA history.

Itz hard to take him serious when he got standing tko’d by Jason Day like dazzlebreath said. He says he aint scared to stand and bang with tha spider, but im sure once Silva tags him with a good shot he’ll be gun shy after that. I give him props on his win over Wilson and for his confidence tho.

by MikeCezzy on Dec 14, 2009 11:57 AM EST reply actions

Any idea what was up with Gouveia?

Credit Belcher for the win, but what was up with WG? He missed weight by a mile, came in looking tubby, and fought like garbage. Gouveia is so much more talented than he showed in the fight. What happened?

by vfrex on Dec 14, 2009 12:11 PM EST reply actions

He's lazy and weak mentally

He doesn’t have the mind required to be a quality fighter and will go down in the Denis Kang school of unfulfilled potential. Always said to see talent wasted but Wilson’s never lived up to the hype and the way that he wilted under the pressure against Belcher speaks volumes of the man’s career.

Belcher's logic

is that anything can happen in a fight! He knows Silva will in all likelyhood, KO him! But, if he was to actually land one of his thunder-thigh head kicks before AS caught him, he could possibly get a V! But, his skill would not be enough! He would need a lot of luck!

by Dana's a Crossdresser on Dec 14, 2009 12:43 PM EST reply actions

fought like garbage? fight of the night and a first round KO? Belchers muay thai is sick and he can stand and bang with anyone in my opinion. Saw him fight live at UFC 100 and akiyama or whatever could barely walk out of the ring on his own two feet after that fight . Quit hating on belcher.

And anderson got caught in a flying scissor heel hook before

people lose, people improve and most importantly its fighting and anything can happen

Chris Leben said the same things as Belcher

How did that work out for him? Andy would either destroy Belcher in seconds or get bored of chasing him and start goofing around to a chorus of boos like he did against Leites and Cote. Does anyone really want to see Andy fight another overmatched MW because “anything can happen”?

HAHAHA!!!

That laugh is for people that say that Belcher is a nobody. He’s in the UFC for a reason. Saying that he’s got the same style to stand with The Spider doesn’t bother me. I mean if he thinks he can destroy Silva on the feet or something that’s different story altogether…
Do I think he could beat Silva. Nope. He’ll have to get a couple of really impressive wins if he plans on challenging for the title and Silva could be retired by the time that happens…

by Lunchbox15 on Dec 14, 2009 1:30 PM EST reply actions

He is a nobody.

He can’t beat Kang in a rematch, he has no right saying Silva’s name.

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

by jay. on Dec 14, 2009 1:31 PM EST up reply actions

OKAY

But he beat Kang. Last time I checked submissions counted as wins in MMA. And he could beat him again. He’s in the UFC so he’s not a nobody. I’m saying Silva’s name right now and Im not in the UFC.
Yeaher

by Lunchbox15 on Dec 14, 2009 1:40 PM EST reply actions

He was doing well against Kang then?

How about Jason Day, remember him? Sexyama? Kendall Grove? Okami? He loses every fight that matters. How could the UFC sell a fight with Silva?

Glad to be free from Intro's tyranny.

by jay. on Dec 14, 2009 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

LMAO

okay seriously, Belcher that was some of the sloppiest striking I’ve seen on display in quite a while. You think you are going to get into a slug fest with AS? Alright get in line behind the 20 people ahead of you in your weight class, beat them then prove yourself. Til then just shut your pot hole.

by kibbled_bits on Dec 14, 2009 1:46 PM EST reply actions

Belcher is one of my favorite fighters currently but he’s probably not even close to being ready for Anderson Silva. I actually hope he fights Belfort though. That would be a serious brawl.

by mmanick on Dec 14, 2009 2:31 PM EST reply actions

I say let him fight Anderson.

Of course Nate deserves the shot first but if Anderson wins that fight who else is there. Belcher thinks he can fight him and win then let him. Shit they put James Irvin in there with him and he is a can at best. Belcher is not scared or tentative and I think would be a more entertaiing fight with Anderson than alot of other guys, he will just go in there and fight him. Other guys are tentaive (with good reason) and tend to try and keep there distance were as I think Alan would just go in there and fight without fear as always, actually bring some action. So whether he is ready or not I think he could fight the Spider.

People ahead of Belcher in the 185 pecking order....

Anderson
Vitor
Nate
Akiyama
Sonnen
Bisping
Wanderlie

Others on a similar level…..Cote (has not fought in a while, so he is lower at the moment), Grove, Maia Palhares.

In the words of Keyshawn Johnson….CMON MAN!

by domino effect on Dec 14, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions

Maia's well ahead of Belcher

He looked superb until the Marquardt fight and after Sonnen’s recent success it shows how impressive Maia’s performance was.

he's a dumbass

Let’s talk serious here, a better match up for him would be against Patrick Cote, or a Michael Brisping? Actually if you take out Anderson…. this division has some pretty good match ups.

by MXN on Dec 14, 2009 5:36 PM EST reply actions

Keep dreaming, Alan

Alan’s standup is a style that Anderson Silva could dismantle in a matter of minutes. Alan fights with his head straight up. Always. He doesn’t bob or weave, or even tuck his head. He just wades straight in… head up! That’s a recipe for a beautiful KO. Imagine Alan against Vitor, or Nate the Great. Light’s out. He won’t make it all the way to Silva.

by MMACrossfire on Dec 14, 2009 11:50 PM EST reply actions

Exactly

We’ve already seen Andy face a deluded aggressive brawler with no defence and a good chin, that lasted 30s and killed Leben’s career (he’s never been the same since). Unless Belcher did a Leites or Cote and refused to engage he’d get massacred. There is no reason whatsoever for Andy to waste his time against mediocre fighters like Belcher.
