the cut looked alot worse

when they cleaned it out and showed his face at the end

by GOLDIGGAH on Dec 13, 2009 2:15 AM EST reply actions

I think this picture looks pretty bad too…

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

by Sam Cupitt on Dec 13, 2009 2:31 AM EST up reply actions

looks bad whatever way you look at it.

The brutalization of Diego Sanchez by BJ Penn. Diego looked like Wanderlei after that fight. His face will never be that same again.

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

I underestimated the deadly skills of one of the greatest HWs in the world, Frank Mir. I wrote that because I lost a bet but honestly, he really did impress me. I'm well on the Frank wagon

by Spinning Fat Kick on Dec 14, 2009 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

one of the worst I've seen

after they cleaned him up, it looked like you could lay a whole finger in that cut. Looks like it was the inside ankle bone of BJ that got him.

by (shonuff) on Dec 13, 2009 5:17 AM EST up reply actions

yeah, hurtful view.

He deserved to go out better after surviving and showing nothing but heart throughout the whole fight. Hope Diego and every other fighter gets paid what they deserve for putting their lives on the line in this sport and giving the UFC such a good show.

Time for me to eat crow

I’ve always been a huge Diego supporter, he always has and always will be my favorite fighter in the UFC. Having said that, i gotta tip my cap to BJ. He completely outclassed Diego, and I do believe he’s the greatest 155er of all time. Diego was completely outmatched in every aspect of the fight, but Diego did display one asset that shows why he’ll always be my all-time favorite, which is that he really is one tough son-of-a-bitch. I can’t think of anyone that could have taken the beating he took without getting counted out. Props to Diego for hanging in there, considering he looks like he took a baseball bat to the right side of his face, an axe to the left side of his face, and a scalpel right down the middle. Ugliest, nastiest cut i’ve ever seen, and great camera work to show it coming off Penn’s kick. I hated the fight outcome, but it delivered as promised.

Now the problem is the LW, WW and MW divisions have title holders that cannot be stopped. I guess we’ll have to enjoy watching everyone beat the hell out of each other in trying to contend for a title shot…but i can’t see anyone threatening the champs of those two weight classes.

>"I can’t think of anyone that could have taken the beating he took without getting counted out."

John Fitch can.

by peazy on Dec 13, 2009 1:56 PM EST up reply actions

Fitch and Diego both have Homer Simpson-esque abilities to not get put away.

by MM_Eh on Dec 13, 2009 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely agree kg12

I’ve been a Diego fan for a long time too. He had absolutely nothing for Penn, but he never stopped coming forward. And Penn always pissed me off because he had so much natural ability but never worked to get better. Now he is, and he’s pretty much untouchable at LW. Diego was really the only interesting match-up left for him.

Good times and riches and son of a bitches
I've seen more than I can recall.

by P-Dub on Dec 13, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

would have loved to have Diego go up to WW again, those guys are real big but it feels much better seeing Diego compete there. His legs just looks much smaller at LW, and that takes away from his explosive ability to punch and shoot.

Yep, definitely the ankle bone...

to the death, georges.

by an8yr0ldboi on Dec 13, 2009 11:02 AM EST up reply actions

Whew!

Yeah rare head kick. Diego owes Herb Dean a little bit of dough for not stopping it in the first, he gave him like “randy couture” time to recover, which is good I guess

by drudog1715 on Dec 13, 2009 2:34 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Herb Dean is the best ref in the game.

Diego is a warrior, Herb knows that which is why he let it go on as Diego did found a way to get out. I think that was the first time i’ve seen a head kick from BJ and it landed cleanly. Perfect timing, Diego needs to get a better jab to be able to use his reach, he also needs to throw more leg kicks.

Wilson Gouveia needs to be cut too, he’s terrible.

by RoBerto. on Dec 13, 2009 2:54 AM EST up reply actions

yea as much as i like willy g

he’s gotta go. Along with buentello, edgar garcia, kevin burns, Shane Nelson. Idk why the UFC doesnt make space on their roster by cutting TUF castoffs. Personally so i think Belcher too mainly because he makes the UFC look low budget with his braids, his johnny cash tattoo, his pink shorts and general dumb face.

durdog – lol @ “randy couture” time. That guy gets so many undeserved things it’s ridiculous.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Dec 13, 2009 3:29 AM EST up reply actions

Are You Kidding me?

Buentello was a crowd favorite and he stayed the pocket and landed some great shots. That fight could of gone either way.

Belcher is unbelievable tonight. He took some shots straight to the face and stood his ground. The guy was in unbelievable condition and I he is just a dynamic guy to watch.

shane nelson is pretty gritty but he was overmatched. any man that can continue after taking a shot to the satchel like that has to get another shot.

by TapedUpPair on Dec 13, 2009 3:44 AM EST up reply actions

Buentello? WTH

I don’t know how the judges gave that fight to Struve when Buentello had knockdowns in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. He had a lot of trouble getting inside, but every time he did, he made it count and his strikes were WAY more effective than anything Struve hit him with.

by (shonuff) on Dec 13, 2009 5:20 AM EST up reply actions

"General dumb face" LOL

But even though, Belcher’s one tough mogo. Willy G rained on some bombs and his chin just absorbed it like a sanitary napkin…

glad u have your day

because i remember not too along ago when GSP made BJ looked like an even bigger idiot haha

a little different

bj and diego are the same weight though…much more impressive for bj than it was for the bigger gsp

by ja434650 on Dec 13, 2009 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

frankie edgar

should be next for bj. he deserves it.
then bj needs to fight some other top ranked lightweights like Aoki, Alvarez, and Aldo should move up and try him. imagine that stand up war!! and both are insane crazy on the ground. make that one happen joe

Would be great fight but...

Have to give it to Maynard first.

by TapedUpPair on Dec 13, 2009 10:43 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

thought about it

and yeah for sure. maynard beat edgar not too long ago

by Newfie3 on Dec 13, 2009 8:01 PM EST up reply actions

Even though Maynard beat Edgar

I think Edgar stands a better chance against BJ than Maynard does. Maynard will get picked apart on his feet, just like Diego did. Edgar is the much better striker, that will be a great fight if it ever happens. I’d say next to BJ, Edgar probably has the next best stand up skills in the LW division. I hope we get that matchup….Penn will probably still win, but it will be a slugfest.

by kg12 on Dec 13, 2009 11:22 PM EST up reply actions

disagree!

edgar already lost to maynard.if maynard beats diaz id give him next shot.aldos a great call.if/when the ufc/wec merge we could well see it.

by scott1 on Dec 13, 2009 10:42 AM EST reply actions

yeah...

but diaz isnt rely a top competitor match up. at last frankie edgar has been looking better and facing better competition like sherk.

to the death, georges.

by an8yr0ldboi on Dec 13, 2009 11:05 AM EST up reply actions

agreed

what the hell is diaz doing getting a match like that after his recent record.u cant blame gray but personally i wouldve rather have seen a no 1 contenders rematch between maynard and edgar.if diaz wins i expect frankie to get next shot anyway.

by scott1 on Dec 13, 2009 11:14 AM EST up reply actions

Diego had heart but Penn had all the skills

I was really impressed with diego’s ability to survive in that fight. But his standup looked so robotic and stiff compared to bj’s. Bj is just on another level compared to diego. Hb even felt comfortable throwing a headkick, which we’ve never seen before!

If Gray Maynard beats Nate Diaz, I’d like to see Gray vs BJ next.

by C O R on Dec 13, 2009 10:51 AM EST via mobile reply actions

BJ is Light Years Ahead of the Next closest 155#er...

They have to bring in Aoki. Aoki’s lack of standup could be a big issue for him though. Nobody in the UFC will even give him a solid run. Edgar and Maynard at best are on Diego’s level of talent. They way BJ has handled everyone to date is ridiculous. He was not even breathing heavy going into the last round when he cut him. He looked as good in the last as he did in the first. BJ has finally physically caught up to his talent level, it is a beautiful thing to watch….

by Da Monkey on Dec 13, 2009 11:18 AM EST reply actions

Holy Shit!!!

Bj kicked the living crap out of Diego. That was easily one of the most composed I have ever seen BJ. He also looked like he could have went a few more rounds.

by HEELHOOK on Dec 13, 2009 1:12 PM EST reply actions

I just watched the Post fight Presser

and BJ doesnt even look like he was in a fight. There is not a mark on him, I cant believe how badly he beat up Diego. I knew he would win but thought it would be a tough fight for him. That was as dominate as the beating GSP put on BJ.

by HEELHOOK on Dec 13, 2009 1:26 PM EST reply actions

I only remember BJ getting struck two times the whole fight.

by peazy on Dec 13, 2009 2:00 PM EST up reply actions

I think Diego landed 8 shots total the entire fight.

I’m guessing, despite it going into the 5th round, BJ whooped him?

Wasn’t able to watch.

Goooooo-mez!

by Drew C on Dec 13, 2009 1:48 PM EST via mobile reply actions

It

was an absolute destruction, Diego was rocked real early and was hurt the rest of the fight!

by HEELHOOK on Dec 13, 2009 4:06 PM EST up reply actions

2nd worst beatdown ever.

with Silva vs Griffin taking worst beatdown ever.

by C O R on Dec 13, 2009 7:51 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Wow BJ is really good

BJ made Deigo look like an chump. Deigo was so out classed it wasn’t funny. I am a huge Deigo fan and I never thought I would see the day when a fighter would beat him up! That is not the fight I paid to see…it was a great fight but not what I thought I would see. I expected to see BJ gas in the 3rd and watch Deigo out work him to a win. BJ is unstoppable. Keep up the hard work Deigo…I be cheering for your return. (no man love here)

YES YES LOL What a joke!! You r such a loser LOL go back to mexico Diego YES YES Sanches I hope u have learned stupid

by alcolatra on Dec 13, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions

Wow!

Stupid? Number 1, he is American since he was born in New Mexico (he is however Mexican-American and I would bet at least going back to your grandparents, unless you are super young in which case it maybe your great grandparents, that there is some sort of immigrant status in your family like Italian/Polish/German-American). Number 2, you didn’t even spell his name right! Number 3, your sentences are similar to the nonsensical idling and rambling of a 4th grader. Number 4, racist rhetoric and banter normaly makes you look like the stupid one in todays society. It should be of great importance, when calling someone stupid, that you actually are if not look intelligent in and when doing so. You failed miserably at both.

by Da Monkey on Dec 14, 2009 7:04 AM EST up reply actions

Diego showed his heart. He tried to fight toe to toe with BJ and it just didn’t work out. I hope his next fight is a rematch against Florian. They both have the same record and results against the same two opponents. I think that fight could go either way. Maybe a slight edge to Florian.

BJ was just incredible. Diego is no pushover but BJ made him look bad.

by kden808 on Dec 14, 2009 12:53 AM EST reply actions

I would like to see him fight Florian.

I also wish I’d gotten to see him fight Thiago Alves before he dropped down a weight class. That would’ve been cool.
