Mariusz Pudzianowski wins MMA debut at KSW 12

The five-time World’s Strongest Man champion, Mariusz Pudzianowski blitzed through his MMA debut on Friday, Dec. 11, at KSW 12 in Warsaw, Poland.

Facing a professional boxer and fellow MMA newcomer, Marcin "El Testosteron" Najman, "Pudzian," a fourth-kyu green belt in Kyokushin Karate and former amateur boxer, stalked his foe for the first fifteen seconds.

With the thunderous roar of the crowd chanting his name, Pudzian started battering Najman’s legs as if he were shooting a soccer ball from long range. The kicks quickly took a toll on "El Testosteron," who fell to the mat and succumbed to Pudzian’s ferocious ground-and-pound at 43 seconds of the first round.

With a triumphant debut, Pudzianowski has an option of pursuing a MMA career or his sixth World’s Strongest Man title. His last attempt at the title came two months ago in October and he fell short, earning a runner-up finish in the competition.

If he decides to go forward with his MMA career, he may become a pioneering figure in the growth and popularization of MMA in Poland, thanks to his celebrity status.

Star-divide

Elsewhere on the KSW 12 fight card, The Ultimate Fighter alum, Dean Amasinger, earned his sixth career victory over Maciej Gorski, and UFC and Cage Rage veteran, James Zikic bested Daniel Dowda with unanimous decision.

That Polish guy is crazy, he had the other guy running for the hills faster than Cane against Lil Nog. What a mad fight.

I`m looking forward to see Pudzianowski compete against some serious opponent if you keep his pace and train ground games he can become some serious fighter. His physical abilties are just INCREDIBLE!

I don’t see this guy dropping 50lbs to make weight.

by leerage on Dec 12, 2009 1:56 AM EST up reply actions

I'm sure

UFC could scrape up enough Strong Men, Bodybuilders, WWE Superstars, and former NFL players to create a Cruiser Weight division. Guys between 225 and 245 really have a disadvantage in today’s HW division. Anything over 265 would be in the new division. No cap. Lesnar could drop down to defend his HW strap.

by fenderacoustic (formerly wAyNe) on Dec 12, 2009 9:44 AM EST up reply actions

Super Heavyweights!

I know the HW division is the weakest but guys like this need to be fighting guys closer to there size and they shouldn’t have to drop 50 lbs to do it. Create a new belt and let big guys like lesnar go back and forth and compete in both divisions.

Not as good as it sounds

I just watched that fight on youtube and I don’t think he looked good at all. He looked kinda sloppy and pretty muched chased the dude to kick him. I didn’t think it was nasty, when I read the post I thought it was going to be a crazy fight. But all I saw was a clear size disadvantage as well as a sloppy giant.

On a side note, you guys have to see that ref stop pudz it was hilarious.

Like I said in the earlier thread...

Marius is an f’ing beast. If you have never seen World’s Strongest Man you have no idea what a animal Mariusz is. Him vs. Brock would be the most muscle mass ever fit into a single fight!

And then God said "Let there be light," to which Chuck Norris replied, "say please."

I have to be an asshole here

And say that nobody should be getting too excited until we see this guy’s cardio. I would expect nothing less than some serious explosive power in the first minute of a fight, but seriously, do you guys think he can maintain that for 3 rounds even? This is looking pretty Terry Sokojchu(sp??) ish.

he had better cardio than most of the TUF 10 people

Hey this is from the other post:

That’s cool to see, you’re literally the first modest fan from the UK I have met.. Congratulations haha. But seriously, I don’t know how many UK people I’ve talked to that sincerely want to believe that Carl Frotch actually beat Andre Direll, it pisses me off that a lot of them (UK fans) would rather cheat a decision than actually compete.. It must be frustrating for you, I can imagine a lot of UK fans thinking ricky hatton and carl frotch are the best thing since Ali. I too don’t like fighters based on their nationality, and I find it sort of offensive when people get mad at Anderson Silva for not having completely mastered the English language yet.. You can tell when people say that that if it looks different, sounds different, then they don’t want to support it. That’s why (aside from his insane talent and skill) I like to back Floyd Mayweather, just because I feel like he gets a bad rep because he would have to be exceptionally modest before anyone would like him. It’s sad but true that mainstream America would love him to death if he were white.. I’m not saying he’s not an ass, I’m just saying he can’t get away with it being black. So even though I don’t dislike people like forrest griffin, I never support them because I don’t want to be clumped in to the demographic that just cheers for people because they are the white, blue collar, underdog.. Kinda like how I wouldn’t vote for McCain because of the reasons some people WOULD vote for him (because they hate black people). That was a rant, but yeah, it troubles me when people don’t just abide by the ideals you were referring to, quality and overall merit.

by BlaiseBlaise on Dec 11, 2009 10:06 PM EST reply actions

Froch-Dirrell was a robbery

I was cheering for Froch as I can’t stand anyone associated with the Shaws but to be honest I was never a big fan, he talked too much shit about Calzaghe for my liking and has no personality, which is why he gets no mainstream coverage over here. Dirrell outboxed him, all Froch did was stomp about and miss his wild punches (same as Valuev against Haye) and I was left feeling embarrassed by that decision. Froch’s complaints about it not being a UD sickened me and the biased reaction of his fans and the media was pathetic. Dirrell won me over and after Ward’s shock win over Kessler the Super 6 is wide open.

Hatton sucks as well, his behaviour at the Mayweather weigh in was ridiculous, anyone who starts saying fuck in front of little kids is a moron. His fans get on my nerves as well, half of them don’t even watch the fights and just go to get pissed. His work ethic is appalling and he was never that talented. I have a lot more respect for the likes of Khan and Haye who actually behave like professional athletes, even if both can get cocky at times as well. Honestly I was so happy when Manny KO’d Fatton, I’m still owed money from a Hatton fan I made a bet with.

I’ve never been a big Mayweather fan but I respect his talent, you don’t go 40-0 after fighting the oppostion that he has without being a genuinely quality boxer. I’m more of a Manny fan, that guy shows heart and passion 24/7 and is a class act in and out of the ring. I can’t wait for that fight, it’ll be the FOTC.

Like I said I don’t care about culture or creed, I judge fighters on their talent and personality. If they’re English then great, if not then I’ll support them anyway, it doesn’t bother me where they are from.

I did not watch this fight but..

I remember watching the Contender USA vs GB and thought how well the crowd behaved and cheered for both US and GB fighters, it was a good night all round apart from one arrogant British idiot who won, but really pissed off Teddy Atlas with his attitude, I remember him sayng that it appears your mouth is quicker than your hands, the guy was an ass. On another note, when watching the Galzaghe v Manfredo fight that was in Wales, I was absolutely disgusted with the how they booed throughout the whole US national anthem, it was unreal you could hardly hear it, it got to a point where the singer looked like he was going to stop it was that bad, I am from the UK and have never seen anything so disrespectful, I was also pissed with the commentators as they never said a thing about it while it was going on or afterwards.

Booing national anthems is pathetic

I’ll never understand why anybdody want to do that.

I was impressed that he started conservatively, and when he saw an opening he sure jumped on it. He def has the killer instinct.
