UFC 107: Will Frank Mir's mind games with Cheick Kongo ...
... work like a charm or blow up in his face on Saturday night? The "French Sensation" appears to have had enough:
"Right now I don't care. He was a former UFC champion, heavyweight. That's good. He did a great job, I respect that. But as a person, no ... I can't let anyone judge me or treat me like a piece of shit. And he did."
Mir, who has gone to great lengths to crack on Kongo's ground skills (or lack thereof) leading up to this weekend, today launched his final salvo at the pre-fight press conference, saying "it wasn't fair to exchange words" with the Parisian -- a not so subtle knock on his command of the English language.
So will Mir's "calculated" psychological warfare pay dividends inside the Octagon on fight night or will it motivate Kongo to perform better than he may have without it?
Sound off, Maniacs.

Everyone doubts kongo's ground game but he never been submitted
Sure he get taken down but he is good at defending submissions and uses his strength to get up…..Im not saying that he wont get submitted but Kongo is a devastating striker that could put frank 2 sleep real quick and i hope that is what happens
I like this fight
because I’m sick of hearing Mir talk about how is stand up has improved and his striking is getting really good.
Stand with Kongo… then tell me your a dangerous striker.
but realistically, as it’s already been said, either man could win, depending on where the fight takes place. There is no way that Frank can win on the feet, total shut out, but even on the ground, Frank best be careful fighting off of his back, because he’s got a great gaurd and all, but Kongos GnP is face breakingly vicious.

I want him to stand more than anything...
Kongo is one of the only few pure strikers in the UFC and is the only one in the HW Division. I want nothing more then to see him looking at the lights from his back…
I’m really hoping that Mir tries to stand gets KO’d fast. I don’t think it would shut him up but it would be very enjoyable to watch.
hey guess what? frank mir did better on the feet and rocked kongo with one punch and was the first to ever submit kongo. now you might not car ebut check out this list.
1. frank mir was the first guy to ever beat tim sylvia
2. frank mir was the first and only guy to beat brock lesnar.
3 frank mir is the only guy to ever stop big nog
4. and frank mir is the only guy to ever submit kongo
bottom line frank mir is legit!
Mir 4 the W
Mir’s stand-up has improved significantly in the last 24 months. He is not the best striker in the division, but he has serviceable hands, which will help to set up a shot. He easily has the 2nd best jitz in the division behind only Nog. Kongo has good hands/feet, terrible wrestling, and Sokoju-esk jits. This ends by submission in the 1st or early 2nd.
Whatever happens
We can all agree that Mir is not a pretty person.

much as i think mir is a pecker..
if it goes to the ground he will win..he really comes off as a dick..i like kongo, but his ground game is not up to snuff..i will be hoping for kongo too..but like i said..ground = mir for the win..stand up = kongo..yep
Really? ground=Mir, standup=Kongo?
Thats news to everyone “sarah”! Thanks for telling us.

Ummmmm
I could care less if the poster is a guy, a girl, or a poser. Lester is the one with the fucking retarded comment, and you have joined him in the douche category.
Mir can pull guard or whatever, the only way he wins if he can take him down and work from on top.
Kongo is going to win the standup for sure, and he’ll get a TKO win if he ends up on top on the ground!
I still say Kongo by KO
It is not a given Mir can take this fight to the ground. He is not a great wrestler and you know he is at least going to see if he measures up on the feet. I think Kongo stops Mir and shuts his yap up.
Mir will pull guard.
Or Kongo will drop Mir and his stupid ass will probably try to GnP Mir until he gets his arm snapped.
You're a daisy if you do.
by BNF on Dec 10, 2009 9:36 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
He won't armbar Kongo! LOL
but you’re right, Kongo is gonna follow him down and GnP the sh!t out of Mir until Mir quits like he always does because he’s a quitter!
U can say that again
the man folds like a lawn chair as soon as he’s hit whether he’s on the ground or standing. I just hope Kongo can sneak one of his trademark nut shots on him. Even if he gets DQ’d, everyone would agree that the world would be a better place.

I agree, Sarah!
That is definately the formula that will determine who wins! The main reason I’m going with Mir for the V is that he can take a beaten! And even though Kongo can give a good beaten, I just feel like Mir will get him down before he gets KO’d! Also, Mir has been packing on muscle and strength since getting spanked by Lesnar! He seems to have a complex about his size and doesn’t want to be that much smaller in a fight ever again! That, coupled with the fact that he knows that all he has to do is get Kongo down, means he’s most likely traing for takedowns the most!
by Dana's a Crossdresser on Dec 10, 2009 9:27 PM EST reply actions
He doesn't just need to get Kongo down
Kongo has never been submitted and has devestating Ground and pound. you can argue that he has never fought anyone with jits as good as franks, but I wouldn’t be surprized if this fight is a real tough one for Frank even if it does go to the ground. plus as much as I know that Frank has been building muscle and power, no way in hell he will be carrying as much muscle/strength/power as Kongo, dude is a monster. and unless Kongo is the biggest moron on the planet, then he will have been working solidly on his ground game after the embarressment that was the cain fight. I see an upset here. Frank is taking Kongo far too lightly. and he is not even in the same league as cain when it comes to wrestling credentials, plus Kongo has in the past proven to have not bad take down defence.
If Kongo wins this and I think that he will, it’s gonna be huge for him.

Mir's going to regret pissing off Kongo
I can’t believe that he won a sportsmanship award and smashed it, the guy is so smug and arrogant that I’m amazed that he has any fans left, I wouldn’t mind so much if he didn’t whine when someone talks shit back. I can’t stand that idiot Kongo either but making him mad is not a smart strategy and because of that I’m going with a Kongo win, though I’m not ruling out him making a stupid mistake and getting submitted.

Tito Ortiz after UFC 106
Mir's going to regret pissing off Kongo??
What makes you think that? Mir’s still trying to piss off Lesnar. And Kongo isn’t going to put a bigger hurt on Mir than Lesnar did.
Look how being a dick worked for Mir last time, Kongo has never sounded this angry and has the potential to do real damage. Lesnar destroyed Mir and mocked him in front of the world because of his stupid comments, Kongo could do even more damage and I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes a few cheap shots at the end of the fight. Look at what happened to Bisping when he pissed off Hendo.

This fight is gonna set MMA back
This will be one of the most epic beatdowns the man will take. I love that even though he’s got horrible footwork, Mir decided to add size and muscle. Let’s see who hits faster and harder.
David – nice quotes, like i’ve always said Tito doesn’t and has never belonged in the UFC.

who has Frank beat..
that makes you think he could beat Kongo? He’s never fought as good a striker as kongo, and no Hardonk is not as a good.
I see a HUGE void between these guys in the striking game, and I don’t think it’ll be as easy for Frank on the ground as your making out, Cain took Kongo down at ease, Frank is not Cain, Franks takedowns are nowhere near Cains, and Kongo has displayed good TDD in the past. as well as BRUTAL ground and pound. Frank has a good subs game, but he’s going to need more than that to beat Kongo. This will be the biggest upset of the night!

LOL kongo lost to Herring SFK and Herring is not a great wretler nor near as strong as Mir
I’m will to place a bet down SFK if Mir wins I’ll get you a picture of Mir that you have to set as your picture and in your comment you will have to put " I underrated the deadly skill of one of the best Heavy weight fighters in the world Frank Mir!!"
Yer he lost a split decision to him the best part of two years ago.
I think your MMA math might let you down here, but whilst we’re doing things by numbers, Frank got TKO’d by Brandon Vera. I’m up for the bet I accept that and if Kongo wins, then you have to have a picture of him and your comment has to say “Kongo is the man… I wish he was my man”

Mir with a KO victory
Thats my guess on the fight. I think we all know Mir would submit him, but I think Mir is going to KO Kongo.
I have always been a Mir fan. Always will be too. Can’t wait for the third fight between him and Lesnar.

I think we can all agree
It totally depends on how kongo has improved his takedown defense and his ground game.. That’s all that matters, no one really knows.. but many assume that he hasn’t made any improvement in that regard, at least not any significant improvement. That’s the way it goes, nobody bets on the new jersey nets winning any games and nobody bets that Kongo has improved in the areas that he needs to improve in. But one thing is foresure, Frank Mir better be praying that Kongo hasn’t made any of those improvements, or he will get KTFO. I think jay mentioned before that AJ wasn’t smart enough to fill the holes in his game, well I’m desperately hoping that kongo has put in enough to fill his, because that would be a huge waste of talent if he didn’t! I like to see talent reach it’s potential.

You didn’t respond to one of my posts.. I asked if you were some kind of modest UK fan??? please let me know, trying to find out if they exist.
Sorry mate didn't see it
I don’t know if I’d call myself modest (well that was quite modest haha), I’m one of the few English fans that doesn’t mindlessly support the English fighters especially when they talk shit and don’t back it up like Bisping (based on my experiences at the MEN where I was the only person in the arena devastated by Kang getting TKO’d). I support fighters based on quality and personality not nationality, I don’t even have to speak their language to be a fan.

Nice
That’s cool to see, you’re literally the first modest fan from the UK I have met.. Congratulations haha. But seriously, I don’t know how many UK people I’ve talked to that sincerely want to believe that Carl Frotch actually beat Andre Direll, it pisses me off that a lot of them (UK fans) would rather cheat a decision than actually compete.. It must be frustrating for you, I can imagine a lot of UK fans thinking ricky hatton and carl frotch are the best thing since Ali. I too don’t like fighters based on their nationality, and I find it sort of offensive when people get mad at Anderson Silva for not having completely mastered the English language yet.. You can tell when people say that that if it looks different, sounds different, then they don’t want to support it. That’s why (aside from his insane talent and skill) I like to back Floyd Mayweather, just because I feel like he gets a bad rep because he would have to be exceptionally modest before anyone would like him. It’s sad but true that mainstream America would love him to death if he were white.. I’m not saying he’s not an ass, I’m just saying he can’t get away with it being black. So even though I don’t dislike people like forrest griffin, I never support them because I don’t want to be clumped in to the demographic that just cheers for people because they are the white, blue collar, underdog.. Kinda like how I wouldn’t vote for McCain because of the reasons some people WOULD vote for him (because they hate black people). That was a rant, but yeah, it troubles me when people don’t just abide by the ideals you were referring to, quality and overall merit.

I hope Dana gives him Brock again
So he can knock that smirk off his face. People came down on Lesnar when he talked shit after the win but seriously this guy(Mir) has a big freakin mouth. Cocky little fukker.
Mir was born with it...
I don’t think another severe beating from Brock will do the trick. Mir was born a shit-talking douche and will remain a shit-talking douche the rest of his life.
