UFC 109: Josh Koscheck to rematch Paulo Thiago on Feb. 6
UFC welterweights Josh Koscheck (14-4) and Paulo Thiago (12-1) will have a chance to settle some unfinished business when they hook 'em up inside the Octagon at UFC 109 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, February 6.
MMAmania.com (www.MMAmania.com) learned of the pending match up earlier today.
"Kos" was stunned by the Brazilian in their first encounter at UFC 95: "Sanchez vs. Stevenson" at The O2 Arena in London, England, back on Feb. 21. The AKA product walked into an uppercut and appeared to be out before he hit the canvas; however, he was jolted back to reality as soon as his head hit the floor. He was not totally out and the referee jumped in thinking he was unable to intelligently defend himself.
We may never know if he would have been able to recover -- but we will know if it was simply a "fluke" win.
Koscheck went on to score two impressive wins since the controversial defeat, stopping Frank Trigg via technical knockout at UFC 103: "Franklin vs. Belfort" back in September and then choking out Anthony Johnson just last month at UFC 106: "Ortiz vs. Griffin 2."
A third straight win could have him knocking on the door of the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Dan Hardy.
Then again, Thiago will undoubtedly try to prove that it was skill -- not a flash KO -- that propelled him to victory earlier this year.
The Brazilian had a chance to make it two straight against AKA; however, Jobn Fitch outworked him en route to a unanimous decision win at UFC 100 back on July 11. Thiago went on to ruin "Christmas" by roughing up Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106: "Ortiz vs. Griffin 2" just over two weeks ago.
UFC 109 is expected to feature a light heavyweight battle between elder statesmen Randy "The Natural" Couture and Mark "The Hammer" Coleman. Aging UFC welterweights Matt Serra and Frank Trigg are also expected to hook 'em up.

this is a boring fight, it wasn't that great the first time around and it will probably be even more boring this time around.
In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

Why?
Did you see his fight at UFC 106? Snooze fest.

didn't that "snooze fest" win fight of the night?
koscheck is gonna kill this guy, this time. paulo thiago is far away from impressive. his last fight was a joke, almost getting finished by that nobody.

What are you talking about? I said Thiago’s fight at UFC 106, which was a few weeks ago. Boring!

Would love to see Paolo beat him again!
Win or lose, Paulo is NO JOKE! Sick ground game, hope fight goes to ground so I can see how his jits matches up with Kos’s ruthless G N P!

i cant stand Paulo
Hes got ZERO killer instinct. When he dropped Kos, he could have swarmed him and at least made it a legit stoppage. Against this Christmas dude at 106 (which I thought Paulo lost), he could have put him away several times, but once he dropped him, he just stood htere. it really bugged me.
I love Kos, and i for sure hope he turns this fools face inside out. Kos by beatdown. Hopefully Chris-Lytle-esque.

It might happen again. . .
but i think Kos is gonna try to take him down this time and win. Paulo fought really stupid against the german Volkmann, he almost gave the poor guy the fight, and I saw the same thing, he has no killer instinct when the fight could be finished.

nice fight
It’ll be very interesting to see Kos’s strategy in this one. Does he play it safe and try to ride out a decision victory with his wrestling or will he go for the usual Koscheck stand and bang mentality. Either way I don’t see Kos finishing Thiago but I think Thiago can win by either KO or sub.

thiago's in trouble
kos is gonna finish this fight guarenteed. thiago landed a good shot but it was a bit of an early stoppage last time and kos hasnt forgotten it.

KOS BY MURDER!
I feel sorry for thiago this time around!
by WestSideStrangler on Dec 1, 2009 5:05 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
don't count out thiago
i wouldnt be surprised if he pulls out a submission from his back on kos. he looked pretty tricky on the ground against fitch and fitch spent a lot of that fight defending submissions.

Bet KOS get a title shot with a win
If KOS can avenge his loss to Thiago (which I think he will), I bet he gets a title shot. It will be his 3rd straight win and his only losses in his last 10 or so fights have been to Thiago, Alves, and GSP. I would really like to see him matchup with GSP again as their last fight was a decision and who knows what could happen in a 5 rounder. I still think GSP would win, but it would make for a very exciting fight.

I'd like to see a rematch as well...
I bet GSP goes after him a lot more this fight. He fought very conservative against Kos coming off of the loss from Serra. I would say that was the only time I’ve seen GSP aiming to get a decision victory. GSP took zero risks and this time will be a different story.

GSP toyed with alves, and alves toyed with kos. kos isnt even on the same level as alves, and GSP is constantly evolving, getting more skilled and stronger each fight. He has stated in his next fight, he will be way better than whem he fought alves. kos might be athletic, but gsp makes him look unathletic, since he is the most athletic fighter in the history of mma. GSP is stronger, faster, way better wrestling, standup, footwrk, kicks, BJJ, top control and GNP, there is not a single area kos is better than GSP, it woulf be a huge mismatch this time. Its time for GSP to move to MW, and challenge himself a bit.

Thiago better learn
To act like a shark when there’s blood in the water.Paulo got lucking with that KO against kos,and if he acts like he did in the fight with Christmas(which I feel he Lost).Kos will make him pay for it.Paulo needs the killer instinct which imo can’t be taught you have it or don’t.
Kos will have his revenge

Smart match-up
The Thiago defeat needs to be avenged before Kos can be considered for a title fight, Kos has to be the favourite again but Thiago is no joke and Josh will have to fight a lot more intelligently and take it serious if he’s going to win this time, he got very sloppy in the first fight and against a guy with decent power in his hands and a dangerous guard you can’t afford to get sloppy. A win will probabaly earn Kos the next shot.

On the other hand
If Kos loses in any fashion, he will never be able legitimately challenge for the title.

I Agree JRE!
He better get it right this time. This will be his last chance for at least another 2 years.

He has no legitimate argument for a tittle shot right now.
He hasn’t beaten a top WW since Diego.

Not Necessary Right Now
So many other matchups are available right now. Why waste two fighters who already fought and a win won’t propel either to #1 contender status. I know the WW division is sorely lacking right now for #1 contender as GSP has basically cleaned it out but Kos-Matt Brown and Paulo-Ben Saunders or AJ would have been much better right now. I’d say both Kos and Paulo are at best 2-3 fights away from a title shot…do the rematch then!!!
Stun Gun, Hazelett or Kampman would all be viable opponents for Paulo..
BTW…an AJ-Semtex fight would be explosive, can’t wait till the day that takes place….
