UFC Fight Night 20: Amir Sadollah vs Brad Blackburn in the works for Jan. 11

Sadollah-blackburn_medium
Hot off his UFC 106 thrashing of Phil Baroni on Nov. 21,  Amir Sadollah looks to keep his momentum going with a quick turnaround at UFC Fight Night 20 against Brad Blackburn (15-9-1) in a 170-pound showdown scheduled for the Patriot Center on Jan. 11, in Fairfax, Virginia, according to the Newark Examiner.

Both fighters have agreed to the contest; however, bout agreements are not yet signed.

The Baroni beatdown was a much-needed win for the Ultimate Fighter 7 champ. After more than a year on the sidelines, Sadollah finally got back into the cage at UFC 101 last September in his welterweight debut. Unfortunately his return was short lived after Johnny Hendricks put him down in the first round.

Another sharp performance when he faces Blackburn could go a long way in further raising his stock in the 170-pound division.

Star-divide

Blackburn was "Bad" enough to parlay his success with the International Fight League (IFL) to score a second round technical knockout of James Giboo inside the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 14: "Silva vs. Irvin" back in July 2008.

He was quickly paired up with Ryo Chonan at UFC 92 later that year and took home the decision win, just as he did against Edgar Garcia at the Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale, pushing his undefeated mark inside the Octagon to 3-0.

He may have been flying under the radar for the past 18 months, but that could quickly change if he snuffs out the rising star of Sadollah.

UFC Fight Night 20 features a rematch between Ultimate Fighter rivals Gray Maynard (8-0) and Nate Diaz (11-4), who will duke it out in a possible number one contender bout for the 155-pound title. Undefeated lightweights Efrain Escudero and Evan Dunham are also scheduled to hook 'em up.

hmm

15-9 record not too great. I wonder if they’re giving Amir this fight b/c they think it’ll be easy

Just moving up the ladder. Since his fights on TUF don’t count he is low ranked at the moment even if part of it is due to the bad ref call that led to him losing vs Hendricks

OK, I’m done calling him the worst TUF champ ever. He looked great against NYBA.

yer but nyba looked teeeeerrrrrrible

he was just like a weazy orange punching bag. anybody looks good against a guy who’s too tired to fight back. this’ll be two cans in a row for amir.

btw I actually quite like Amir, just think it sucks, that he’s fighting guys that suck.

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.

why after 2 fights would he be the worst TUF champ ever to begin with? a slick armbar win in his pro debut in the UFC.. then injuries put him out for a while.. then a 30 second controversial TKO loss.. made him the worst TUF champ? Especially when Mac Danzig has only won 2 out of 5 fights in the UFC? I dont think Amir was ever the “worst” TUF winner

I don’t think I need to comment on the stupidity of this comment.

Sexyama

You are the worst blogger i have ever seen. Your opinions suck and you can’t even express them in a way that any literate person can understand. Go back to the 3rd grade…

lmao P-dub.

love it when people try and chirp you buddy. A comical response is always soon to follow. Great stuff.

Sexyama – i have to agree with everybody else. We don’t chirp people calling them bum-buddies just because they respect somebody else’s opinion. What are you 4? Like grow the fuck up man. While you’re at it, learn some proper grammar and sentence structure. Also, the fact that you cannot recognize P-dubs sarcasm just adds to your terrible reputation around here.

Not Very Good!

Should really stick to comentating, cause he was beat up pretty good two fights ago (and will get destroyed once he moves up into fighting anyone decent at 170lbs)…He might need my assistance for some good health Insurance :-)

This I why I think that they should only do tuf by invite like they did the first series. Here you have a guy like amir with no real experience winning then being in the ufc. Now they are in the position of either matching him up agains guy with way more experience or bringing in guys of a lower level to help bring him on.

by eagzy on Dec 1, 2009 12:26 PM EST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Oh man

It’s actually not a bad fight for Amir. Gotta remember how quick some of these guys can learn. Blackburn’s a good test to see where he really sits at WW.

by n4tacon on Dec 1, 2009 1:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Alot of you guys are saying Blackburn is a can because he is 15-9, that makes no sense based on that logic Rany Couture at 17-10 is a can. I am by no means saying Brad is anywhere as good as Randy but you can’t jugde a book by its cover persay. Brad Blackburn in 3-0 in the ufc compared to Amir’s 2-1. Blackburn also has wins over the likes of Jay Heiron, Pat Healy, and Chris Wilson. Those names are easily comparible to the fighters Amir has beat, Dolloway and Baroni. If you ask me it almost looks like they are giving Blackburn the tomato can to fight in Amir, if you base it all off records and who they have previously beaten. I personally like this match and when you throw their records out the door and look at their skill sets and UFC experience this is great match making and should be a very competitive fight.

Exactly!

You hit the nail on the head. This should be a very competitive fight. It’s a good test to see where Amir is and to see what Blackburn is capable of as well. It’s not all that different from Pearson/Riley (UFC 105). The more experienced fighter doesn’t always win and can be a perfect opponent to really show off a guy’s skills. People tend to forget that though.

I really enjoyed Amir’s last fight. Looking forward to seeing him fight again so soon.
