M-1 Global and Strikeforce announce record numbers for worldwide broadcast of 'Fedor vs Rogers'
Fedor’s thrilling knockout victory over Bret Rogers viewed by over 25 million homes.
AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND (November 24, 2009) - M-1 Global and Strikeforce announced today that the international audience reports from broadcasters all over the world revealed an unprecedented number of viewers for the November 7th "Fedor vs. Rogers" MMA event from Chicago, Illinois.
"We are extremely happy with the preliminary broadcast reports," said M-1 Global CEO Joost Raimond. "The demographics of these numbers were very promising as our network broadcasting partners in the U.S., Russia, and Korea reach an enormous audience alone. Coupled with a dozen other countries and our successful internet stream in Japan and other territories, all early accounts and indications tell us that "Fedor vs. Rogers" delivered worldwide more than any other MMA show in the history of the sport," concluded Raimond.
Scott Coker, founder and owner of Strikeforce and experienced MMA promoter responded "We are thrilled with the tremendous viewership figures that the Fedor vs Rogers event generated overseas. The results clearly demonstrate the appreciation that fans worldwide have for a number of M-1 Global and Strikeforce mixed martial arts superstars including the number one fighter on the planet - Fedor Emelianenko - and his opponent Brett Rogers."
In total, over 25 million MMA fans all around the world were treated to a vintage performance from the world’s greatest MMA fighter, Fedor Emelianenko. The main event of Fedor vs Rogers reached an impressive 5.46 million viewers in the United States on the CBS Network. The fight was also broadcast in Fedor’s native Russia by "Channel 1," Russia's largest television network, and reached 16 million viewers in Fedor’s home country. In addition, "Fedor vs. Rogers" was broadcast to millions of viewers in Korea on SBS, one of the 3 major national South Korean networks, as well as television networks in China, Latin America, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ukraine, Finland, Africa, Turkey, Israel, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Malta. Live internet streams of the "Fedor vs. Rogers" bout generated ground-breaking viewer numbers in Japan and all over the world and these numbers continue to grow through Video on Demand.
'"CBS was proud to be the U.S. broadcaster in a fight seen by millions domestically and by millions more around the world," commented CBS Senior Executive Vice President Kelly Kahl. "Strikeforce and M-1 Global put together a great card, showcasing some of the best fighters in the world. Our ad sales for the fight were strong, especially for advertisers that target young men -- a group with a growing appetite for MMA."

Why wouldn't they be proud?
16 million viewers in Russia is pretty damn impressive if you ask me.
They kept their end of the bargain with Strikeforce.
They’re happy, SF is happy, and CBS is happy with the ad sales.
Success.

SF, CBS and Fedor should all be happy. I still don’t see what M1 did or what they should be proud of.

Coker's statements
When Coker and M-1 partnered up, Coker stated that M-1’s responsibility was to deal with overseas television outlets.
So, as it turns out, M-1 brought in 20 million or so viewers.
Seems like they did okay to me.

If that's true
Then M1 is doing a great job. But what did M1 do to promote Fedor? My guess is most Russians know of him already, and if it were free on cable in Russia they would have watched without M1.

Missing the point, jay
You can’t look at 16 million Russian viewers and automatically assume that M-1 had nothing to do with it, dude. And you can’t assume that M-1 weren’t the ones behind getting the fight on tv.

Truth
I hate M1, I’ve never denied that. They are the reason I can’t see Fedor vs. Brock. And Dana gets a little of that blame, that’s why I have started to hate him too. I am becoming more and more like you. I’m sick of seeing the Prez of a company act like he is the star of the company.

Negotiates their own TV deals don’t they? Scott Coker has been running the show without M1, why would he allow a fighters management team get involved with CBS? They don’t even speak the same language.

M-1's job is to get overseas distribution.
Said Coker. That has nothing to do with getting the fight on CBS….it has everything to do with getting overseas outlets to buy what CBS is offering.
I don’t know what else I can say.

Takes two to get a deal done
Dana says it all the time, but never wants to shoulder any of the blame for not getting the deal done. When the deal falls through, every bad part of the negotiations is M-1’s fault as far as Dana says, but at the same time he says “it takes two to get a deal done”.
Politics and money are the two things taking this fight away from us….nothing else.
I think we should all get on this “free fight” bandwagon…….then we’ll see where the truth lies

M-1 Global did a bloody good job getting this show distributed overseas, without them I’d have never had the chance to watch the show on TV. Props to them, they did what SF wanted them to, even though they did go a bit overboard with the M-1 logos (you’d think that it was an M-1 show not SF).
The whole “fight for free” thing is laughable and both sides are going to end up looking pretty stupid in my opinion, nobody has even the slightest intention of making Brock-Fedor happen for free.

I can't name another "promotion" that puts their backing behind a lone fighter.
When you wake up and realize that M-1= Fedor, you will understand the basic fact they are not a real promotion, thus not being even worthy of “co-promoting” event.

No one can dispute that. That’s why I don’t understand the heading on this thread. I fail to see what M1 did that SF couldn’t do themselves. M1 is a fighters agency, why are they even being mentioned at all? Did they run a massive PR campaign in Europe to garner these 25 million viewers?

When M-1 is tied to the most viewed MMA event ever……….it has nothing to do with them.
When anything goes wrong with any promotion that M-1 is involved with……it’s all M-1’s blame to shoulder.

Here's how it works
SF got a deal with CBS.
M-1’s job (according to Coker….I’m pretty sure he knows)….was to get television deals overseas.
M-1 proceeds to line up television deals with overseas broadcasters…..who in turn, either A) air the CBS show on their channels for a fee paid to CBS, or B) do their own taping of the event.
It’s not hard to figure out. You’re Canadian aren’t you? When you tune in to watch certain programs on Canadian television that is on an American channel you are not watching the American feed (depending on the show). Why do you think you’re getting Ontario (or wherever you live) commercials while you are watching an NFL game on CBS, or NBC? Because Global TV is paying NBC to broadcast their game.

SF is a north american company
I think they care. Plus there are lots of MMA organizations in europe and beyond. I don’t get any of them on my tv, so I don’t watch them. If SF is going to have anything to do with me, they need to succeed in N.A.. Do you know what I’m getting at? They could close up shop and go to Russia or the U.K. but I wouldn’t get any of their broadcasts, so they would be as good as dead to me anyway.

intro
yeah, too bad for you dude and all other anti-zufffa/dana fans.. 25 million worlwide would be a disaster for the ufc for a free show on network. they could probably hit this # domestically or at least in north america. this number falls in between being good and just ok. it’s certaintly isn’t spectacular and i have read strong rumors that fedor could fight barnett for dream next year on HD-NET. how is this good for SF? aside from saving them money by not having a big event. they also won’t be making any either. hey listen, if SF can put on 3-4 free events on cbs and 8-10 events on showtime and still make money and pay the fighters good (something the ufc comes under scrutiny for unfairly imo), i am all for. more power to them! but lets hold up a bit, before we crown them the 2nd best org behind the ufc and a surefire success. iv’e been burned to many times in the past by bodog, affliction and elitexc and 2 of those 3 had fedor and m-1(finkie and millen specifically) mglobal involved.
and as far as dana saying he would let brock fight fedor for free, he was responding to jerry “gary” millen’s challenge for brock to come to russia and fight fedor for free, not the other way around, and you know it. i would lagh my ass off if dana called them out on this silly bluff, but know that he wont b/c there is no way in hell finkie would let his only “cashcow” fight for free and risk losing.
