UFC Quick Quote: Anderson Silva's manager confirms pending Belfort fight
“It’s a tough fight, Vitor is a dangerous guy, but Anderson is a tough guy, (Vitor) is gonna fight the best pound for pound fighter in the world.”
-- UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva’s manager, Jorge Guimaraes, talks to Tatame.com about the looming 2010 match up between the "Spider" and "Phenom." Silva is currently on the shelf until his elbow fully recovers from recent surgery to remove bone fragments. He was originally expected to face Belfort at UFC 108; however, that date was canceled after the champ failed to regain full range of motion in time to prepare for the Jan. 2 card. When will he return? UFC 109 on Feb. 6 might also be too soon. Only time will tell, but Belfort seems willing to wait ... for now. Check out the video interview with Guimaraes after the jump.

hell yeah
I want to see this, and honestly I do see it as a threat to silva but only on the ground.
Then again leites couldn’t do much.
Standing I give the slight edge to silva.
Haven’t seen vitor take a shot in a while so I’m curious to see what happens.
Silva tko 2nd

yup
Vitor got caught back then, so silva got caught twice in pride by two guys much smaller. I’m not saying he will catch silva just there is always a possibility.

Vitor got caught by Overeem's now famous guillotine
and dragged to the ground already in the hold, not quite the same as getting outmanuevered in the guard or something. At one time, Vitor was considered in the top 2 BJJ guys in the world alongside Rickson Gracie. For some reason, he’s only used it almost exclusively for defense in his MMA career. Anderson has been subbed more times than Vitor and by lesser opponents, but given that he has been training with the Nogs for years while Vitor has focussed on his boxing, they might be equal now in BJJ. The only way this ends on the ground is if somebody gets rocked and goes down stunned and gives up an easy sub.

Soares?
I thought Ed Soares’ cheesy ass was Silva’s manager?
by FlyingFeint on Nov 30, 2009 11:17 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Don't give us an interview in portuguese and not translate it
And Ed Soares manages AS I thought
Is Guimaraes Vitor’s manager? That would make more sense

Ummm???
I thought Vitor was signed on for Febtober 2nd and that Silva wouldn’t be ready because of his elbow, I do not want Silva to fight not at 100% that makes the excuses if he looses all to easy and I do not think he will lose. I love Vitor but I have been saying it for a while, they both have knockout power 4 2 completely different reasons. Anderson’s comes due to laser accuracy where Vitor’s comes from aggression, speed and power. Really want to see this but only if both are 100%

what's going on around here?
this site is like a graveyard now, hardly any comments anywhere and this weird story about some guy being Silva’s manager. I stopped coming and commenting because of the censorship here, seems like 90% of the people have sopped too for their own reasons.

Definitely a Change
I see a lot of newbie’s and a lot of the regulars are just posting here n’ there.. kinda odd.

Glad to see you back Closer.
True, it’s kinda weird now, it seems like everybody did disappered. It looks like the registering scared a few others like john don’t really appreciate the new format. They will be back hopefuly.
For this"weird story" it’s b/c Jorge Guimarães, Joinha is the leader of Black House and manager of fighters such as Anderson Silva, Pedro Rizzo, Lyoto Machida and Paulão Filho. He’s a businessman. Ed Soares is the agent of his fighters and works for Jorge.

hendo schooled vitor when they fought in pride.
he had the same hype surrounding him then. i don’t see vitor posing much of a threat to silva.

I still think he will find a way out
Obviously they do not want this fight. They go on about how he doesnt deserve a shot. Then he hurts himself. He will never win the fans over.
by ElStIkO on Dec 1, 2009 7:21 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
he'll certainly try
Silva has become a hand-picking Diva. I’ll believe it when I actually see the fight.

Don't let your hate for Silva blind you to the fact that he has stepped up for the UFC and fought whoever DW has put in front of him.
by OJR on Dec 1, 2009 10:47 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
bullshit!
OJR, that may be the dumbest thing you’ve ever said. How can you possibly claim he steps up and fights whoever they put in front of him when he’s been getting spoon fed for years??? I don’t hate Silva, I’m just tired of his bullshit. He wouldn’t fight Hendo or Marquardt, the two top contenders and even had the balls to tell Dana who they should have to fight before fighting him and then played this whole on-again-off-again elbow shenanigans till those fights were off the table. Dana spoon-fed him Forrest who was hand-picked to make him look good after the fans bood his previous two lackluster performances against unworthy “challengers” like Leites and Cote. He was spoon-fed Irwin. He doesn’t want to put his title up against Belfort, refuses to fight Machida or the Nogs or Wandy or any other Brazillian that has ever smiled at him. And then he’s calling out irrellevant guys like Mir and RJJ and saying he has better things to do than defend his title. I used to be amazed by this guy, but it’s time for Dana to stop changing his diapers and make this guy fight top-caliber guys his own size. Hendo’s whole career is on hold because Dana didn’t have the balls to put his foot down with Silva and Soares and keep his promise. Vitor’s career is on hold while Silva decides whether or not his elbow is bendy enough and what weight class he wants to fight at. And the world will never know who the best LHW fighter is because Silva refuses to fight 2 of the other best LHWs because they’re his pals.

I think this is a total joke.
the way Vitor was brought in just to fight Anderson makes me sick. Vitor is not close to being one of the best in the world and does not deserve this title shot. Im discusted at the way this situation all went down. Somethiing smells like fish to me!!!!!!!!
by HEELHOOK on Dec 1, 2009 11:40 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
He fought well outside of the UFC
Then he beat Franklin who was probably the #1 contender at middleweight if he still fought there. Why not put new blood against him? Plus Vitor is no joke and the middleweight division was already cleared out. It makes total sense. Smart move by Dana.
by ElStIkO on Dec 1, 2009 12:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
it makes the opposite of total sense
Hendo or Nate makes most sense, hendo being gone its Nate. TOTAL SENSE can’t be made of a fighter winning once @ 195 n then having to get a shot @ the best EVER @ 185. There are many who would beat vitor both @ 185 & 205.
And man are you guys ridiculous. To say Anderson is scared to fight vitor is the most bizarre thing i’ve ever heard.
I can guarantee that no man (especially vitor) puts fear in Spider.

strong convictions.
I think its nice to have some new blood in there. Its an interesting matchup, Andy wins it. I would love to see him lose just to stir the division up a little.
dude.....i am

Dana knows Nate would get his ass beat again
New guy good matchup

and Anderson is not the best ever at middleweight.
He is on a streak in a weak division.
by ElStIkO on Dec 1, 2009 3:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
“Anderson is not the best ever at middleweight”. Ludicrous, name me one better fighter and champion at that weight class. The man is 10-0 in the UFC, with 8 wins at MW, he is easily the most dominant MW champion in UFC history and beat Pride’s MW champ as well to unify the belts, doing so in more dominant fashion than the LHW champion Rampage. He has looked unbeatable in the UFC and has already destroyed Nate, he may have improved since that fight but Nate has no skills superior to Andy and would lose a rematch once again.
by David W-S on Dec 1, 2009 6:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
agree 100% David
Anderson is undoubtably the best in UFC history at MW, but that doesn’t change the fact that his behavior has been disgraceful and unchampionlike. He belongs at LHW and won’t really be “challenging himself” till he’s fighting the top 3-5 guys at 205 and fighting whomever the UFC wants him too instead of handpicking his opponents and avoiding all his top contenders and top-ranked buddies.
by (shonuff) on Dec 2, 2009 4:27 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
also he needs to vacate the MW belt
since he clearly has no interest whatsoever in defending it and is just using it as decoration for his mantlepiece.

Apparently Nate is fighting Belfort now at 109. Thats fukked up if true.
