Brett Rogers wants to strip Alistair Overeem

Quoteworthy:

"[Fedor] is certainly the best heavyweight in the world. But he does have weaknesses. We all do – isn’t that what makes champions great -- they win even with weaknesses? They win even though they can be beat? He is not a machine.... I want to fight soon, and I want to fight Alistair. I’m 100% healthy and took zero damage in the fight; so I’m ready to go right now. As I said Strikeforce is my home; I love Strikeforce and in my opinion Alistair holding the title belt is an insult to every fighter in this organization, every fan and to Scott Coker. Champions defend their titles. And either Scott strips him and real fighters battle for it; or I will take it off him the hard way."

Brett Rogers reflects on his recent knockout loss to Fedor Emelianenko and is eager to put it behind him and get back inside the cage sooner rather than later. He's wants to mix it up with Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem, saying that the Dutch fighter -- who has never defended his belt since defeating Paul Buentello to capture it more than two years ago -- needs to get busy or get out. Overeem has indicated that he does have intentions of putting his belt on the line early in 2010, but is Rogers the man who should get first dibs or should Emelianenko be booked as soon as possible? Thoughts please, Maniacs.

For what profit is it to man if he gains the world , and loses his own soul?

This would be worse than Forrest vs The Spider

I can’t be alone in thinking rogers would get absolutely embarrassed Overeem’s roid-raging self.

Alistair is handling some of the best K-1 fighters, IN K-1 + Rogers is anything BUT known for his ground game = Alistair demonstrating his ridiculous striking for 2 minutes until Rogers falls down, HARD

by FlyingFeint on Nov 30, 2009 11:16 PM EST reply actions

Stylistically Overeem is a way worse matchup for him that Fedor

He has his size, can grapple, has an excellent guillotine, and works a cleaner and more diverse clinch game which is Brett’s bread and butter. From a distance it’s not even close. Also Overeem is not a roider until proven otherwise – still i love it that he mocks everyone with his popeye spinach shirts.

You guys are totally correct.

I can believe that this moron really think about getting a title shot after a loss. Alistair would be a huge mismatch for him on every aspects of the fight. Alistair clinch is one of the best in MMA with devastating knees and the guy got great jits also. Rogers believe that he got some kind of ground game, but the reality is that he ain’t got shit. No need to talk about what would happen if he would stand and trade with the champ.

NNR, those guys who’s keep saying that he roids up probably never stepped a foot in a gym in their entire life or they are under 170 lb with the small man complex. Anyone who’s been following him since PRIDE, knows that he wasn’t lifting weights at all before and he was killing himself to cut weigh for making 205. That’s the reason why he was a fast starter, but was gassing under 5 min. Now he’s at the right weigh and he’s gonna be unstoppable soon. It starts this weekend. After putting a beating on Teixeira he will KO Badr again (sorry RoB) on is way to the final to upset Bonjasky. I can’t wait.

For you haters..

Nice Try

I literally thought that Rodgers’ brain exploded when Fedor hit him in round 2. I’m glad to hear that he is feeling better, but I can’t help but think that he may have suffered brain damage. Overeem would murder rogers – his striking is better, his ground game is better and he has way more experience.

bleh..

so much hate for him, go easy on him i just think hes hungry to get back on the winning track, we can sit here all day and say who wud do wat to him and blah blah but at the end of the day all this trash talk does nothing for anyone on this site to be honest..

I give Brett full cudos, he wants to fight right away, let him fight the alistair the rubber ass overeem, maybe Brett knocks his arrogant ass out. I would love to watch the fight.

good to hear him showing respect to fedor and not making excuses

I will be pulling for rogers if he does fight the blatent steroid user overeem

by dia mette on Dec 1, 2009 12:35 AM EST up reply actions

Well

I give Brett credit for wanting to hop back into the mix, but it’s a bit soon. I’ll agree that it does come off as a disgrace that Overeem hasn’t defened his title, but until this year, who was there to defend it against? Give Overeem time… and he’ll still KO Brett. Fedor/Overeem? That might be wild until Fedor lands something.

by n4tacon on Dec 1, 2009 12:17 AM EST reply actions

Fuck overeem.

Fedor would take overeem out.

by JG HATA on Dec 1, 2009 12:21 AM EST reply actions

It would be an insult to see Rogers get the title shot.

Give us Fedor vs Overeem, anything else is a joke. I wouldn’t mind seeing Rogers fight a strong opponant but I don’t think he deserves a title shot for making it into the second round.

Yawn...

God i’m getting sick of “grim” & his retarded manager spewing all of this “i’m not even hurt crap”.
look Brett when you were lying in the fetal position and Fedor could’ve raped your ass & you had to be saved by Big John that’s almost the worst type of humiliation

so just tell your manager to STFU & get in the back of the line where you should fight Bigfoot next…

by Carvaggi0 on Dec 1, 2009 1:49 AM EST reply actions

lol at Carvaggi0's Description of the final moments of the fight...

Why talk poo poo’s Brett when your just making it worse for yourself. I bet Rogers suprised so many people in the Fedor fight, i mean the end of the fight was not suprising, but in fairness to Rogers he held his own and made it an entertaining till the KO. If he had just chosen his words correctly post fight, being humble in defeat, instead of looking like a dick and a sore loser then he would prob be on the good side of peoples opinions and earned some respect. Instead all this “no damage” and “my puppy…..” garbage he is just spoiling any hope he has of being a likeable guy imo……And why would he get a shot at Alistair if there is a title defense coming up, wouldnt Fedor be the first to get that shot???

I"m no Ned Flanders punk!!

by tkkpal on Dec 1, 2009 4:58 AM EST up reply actions

He has a point

Like Rogers and his big sized mouth or not, the guy has a point. Overeem not fighting for since 07 is a travesty and makes me wonder what the big dutchman has on Coker. Love to see them put Rodgers right back into the fire. This guy wants to fight, you gotta love that

by WARMMA on Dec 1, 2009 5:21 AM EST reply actions

for some reason champions only have to defend every 3 years in Strikeforce.

by ElStIkO on Dec 1, 2009 6:51 AM EST up reply actions

Although Overeem is way more experienced I think Rogers with just sheer brute strength and puching power has a decent shot. Nobody gave him a chance against Fedor and he did great. Nobody thought he would last much more then a few seconds on the ground and he lasted, reversed, and worked Fedor on the ground. Grim I think has a fair chance of KO’ingand ifhe connects it coud be al over.

by Da Monkey on Dec 1, 2009 8:41 AM EST up reply actions

He showed he had a decent ground game. When was the last time you can recall Fedor getting swept? I really like this guy I don’t know what it is about him. I really hope he knocks Overeem’s block off.

by Da Monkey on Dec 2, 2009 8:01 AM EST up reply actions

Normally after a loss they do not give out title shots. He should fight Sylvia.

by ElStIkO on Dec 1, 2009 7:37 AM EST reply actions

Makes no Sense -

I just get knocked out….hmm whats next for me………i’m thinkin a title shot…..i deserve it.

dude.....i am

by brendog on Dec 1, 2009 9:08 AM EST reply actions

agreed with above

Bigfoot is only option that makes sense at this point n i’d like to see it too

by daniel worby on Dec 1, 2009 11:24 AM EST via mobile reply actions

atta go Brett

I would love to see Allister get took out.

by HEELHOOK on Dec 1, 2009 11:37 AM EST reply actions

Why the hating on Brett?

I don’t like the fact that he’s a cry baby, but I think Overeem is in big danger of getting knocked out by Rogers. He has been knocked out before, and usually by sluggers with heavy hands. His fight with Mark Hunt was dangerously close, Liddell knocked him Silly, Shogun knocked him silly, as did Kharitonov and Hoffman. Rogers is a slugger and if Overeem doesn’t protect his head and drag Rogers to the ground to finish his ass off, I’d imagine that it gets pretty hairy for Overeem.

That being said, I hope Overeem fights Rogers, keeps his hands up and knees the big bear in his face until the ref stops it. OVEREEM FOR LIFE!!!

by pathmarkpolice on Dec 1, 2009 12:02 PM EST reply actions

Why would Rogers fight for the title

after losing to Fedor? What would the point of that be? Fedor vs Overeem let it happen soon.

by Gambling Pat on Dec 1, 2009 1:20 PM EST reply actions

Rogers VS Overeem would be a great fight!
