UFC headed back to Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on March 27
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to the "Garden State" for the first time in more than two years when it storms the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on March 27, 2010.
Several reports pegged the rumored pay-per-view (PPV) event to take place much earlier in the month; however, The Daily Telegraph has been able to nail down the precise date. The promotion, meanwhile, has yet to make an official announcement regarding the show.
UFC 111 (or now 112 because of it being so late in the month) is expected to feature a main event between welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, defending his 170-pound title against number one contender, Dan Hardy. Expect several other New Jersey-area fighters, including Frank Edgar, Dan Miller, Jim Miller, Ricardo Almeida and Renzo Gracie, among others, to compete on the card.
"Validation" on Nov. 17, 2007, is the last event to be held at the 18,500-seat New Jersey venue. Rashad Evans battled Michael Bisping for three rounds to earn a split decision in the featured fight of the night.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more on this fight card as it develops.

Expect several other New Jersey-area fighters,
I hate when the UFC does this! I really don’t think the majority of MMA fans that go to these events really care if a “home grown” fighter is on the card. GSP in Montreal is a different story. But Frank Edgar in NJ or Elvis Sinosic in Australia? Who really gives a shit expect for the 30 or 40 family and friends that might come out to support them. This is especially true when the UFC goes to England and we have to watch a bunch of their “home grown” stiffs compete. Give it up Dana! Just give us good fights….. no matter where these guys they come from.

Agree sort of
I don’t think it is all for the fans. When Elvis fights in Australia, or Dan Hardy fights in the UK it is for the fighters too. Who wouldn’t want to fight at home? It’s a dream come true for a lot of the fighters. But I agree from a fans stand point. If I lived in Australia I wouldn’t want to have to watch Elvis on the main card, just because he was born there.
I wonder if the Australian Hand Grenade Marcus Davis will be on this card?

Good one Jay! Instead of wearing a kilt he’ll enter the octagon riding in on a kangaroo while eating Vegemite!

Fudge y'all again
I love Davis as I’ve explained before. I can see why others don’t, but I’ll always be a fan

That's ok
We aren’t bashing his fans. It’s good to see people stick with their favorite fighters. I would never bash someone for loyalty.

i disagree
ive been able to meet the miller brothers because they are so close and train in whippany nj, i also always cheer for frankie edgar because hes from jersey too (unless hes fighting bj [war bj]) AANNNNNYYWHOOOOOOOOOO i cant wait to go to this fight. even tho dan hardy will probably get a stomach ulcer and have to pull out, gsp will get shingles, and every other fighter originally on the card will sustain serious fight-canceling damage due to a 20 car pile up on the nj turnpike, i am still excited.
to the death, georges.

I agree
It’s embarrassing when substandard fighters are thrown onto cards because they’re local, just as I cringe when people cheer for people because they’re from the area and boo the foreigners. I’d rather see quality fights and fighters regardless of where they are from. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great when fighters get a big fight in their hometown, as it creates a brilliant atmosphere and is a very proud moment for the fighter, but when cards are stacked with local talent because they’re cheap and will supposedly interest the crowd more then I get annoyed by it.
It’s even worse when a low ranked local fighter is put on all of the cards in the area, builds up a win streak and a fanbase, then has their big fight in some random area like New Jersey for the sake of PPV. Yes, I’m still not happy about GSP-Hardy happening on this card.

what about columbus?
does this mean that there isn’t going to be a card in columbus this march? or could that possibly be earlier in the month?

Let’s hope they do a show in Columbus again and yes it would be the first weekend in March along with the Arnold Expo.
You guys are crakin’ me up with the Marcus Davis jokes.
I don’t mind at all when the UFC has local guys fight at home but I wish they would match them up with other name fighters and not cans when they fight.

I read
that the UFC is skipping Columbus in 2010. Instead, the WEC will do an event there.

When in the HELL is the UFC coming back to Houston? It’s been more than 2 years since the midget tko’d GSP.

Has it been that long?
I remember hearing my heart break in a thousand pieces that night. Time does have a healing effect. I feel great now. Thank you Matt Serra, before you GSP wasn’t quite unbeatable. Now he is.
