UFC 111: Georges St. Pierre vs Dan Hardy possible for New Jersey's Prudential Center in March 2010
Mixed martial arts megastar Georges St. Pierre (19-2) could finally make his return to the "Garden State" to defend his 170-pound title against last-welterweight-standing Dan Hardy (23-6) at UFC 111, as MMA Fanhouse is tagging the Prudential Center as the probable destination for their inevitable clash in March 2010.
The promotion has yet to announce the event, but it would be St. Pierre's first trip to the land of tomatoes and toll booths since his submission loss to Matt Hughes at UFC 50: "War of '04."
Since that loss, "Rush" has gone 12-1, and a 2007 stoppage to Matt Serra notwithstanding, has looked nearly invincible in all 13 of his contests. Aside from avenging his defeat to Hughes at UFC 79 (and then finishing his title aspirations for good at UFC 83), the uber-welterweight also put his stamp of disapproval on BJ Penn (twice), Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves.
In fact, Dan Hardy was likely afforded a title shot because there aren't many competitors in the 170-pound division that haven't already got a crack at the surging Canadian -- and came up short.
That's not to suggest "The Outlaw" isn't deserving. After squeaking past Akihiro Gono in his Octagon debut back at UFC 89, the Nottingham native rattled off three more wins, including two over a pair of the division's burgeoning prospects, Marcus Davis and Mike Swick.
Ironically, Swick was one win away from his turn at facing St. Pierre in a number one contender match against Martin Kampann at UFC 103 back in September; however, the Texan suffered a "Quick" exit from the event after getting dropped on his head during practice.
After "The Hitman" was shot down by Swick substitute Paul "Semtex" Daley on Sept. 19, Hardy was yanked from his UFC 105 bout opposite "Stun Gun" Kim and given the opportunity to elevate himself into title contention with a big win over one of the original Ultimate Fighter stars.
Mission accomplished.
Though it can be said that sometimes you should be careful what you wish for -- you just might get it. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates and developments on this still-developing fight card.

oh well
He has no right to be anymore than Canadians do that GSP will be defending in the USA. I don’t where this notion comes from that the challenger should get homefield advantage?
GSP is the champ. He’s fought many times in USA for and with his belt. Canada deserves to see the best ww ever defend his crown @ home. Especially since he’s really all we got.
Hardy wants to fight @ home for the belt? Beat GSP n take it there. This is nonsense that the usa will get this fight when they’re supposed to be hitting Vancouver and Montreal again in 2010

Your missing the point
UFC is a business, they will make so much more in PPV revenue if this fight goes out live in the US, history shows tape delay’s cripple US PPV numbers.
As for Canada, there just isnt a show scheduled near the time when this fight has too happen.
Plus GSP gets a cut of the PPV so he will be delighted its to be held live in the US
i get the time restrictions
But as for live & delayed, I don’t buy that.
Where do u think Canada is?
There wouldn’t be a tape delay (unless ur talking about some 10 second thing or something) its live! & if it usually starts @ 8PM where u are maybe it starts @9PM for u but nonetheless its still LIVE so I’m not sure what u mean there.
Ps Canada does the fastest sell out & best live gates. Dana wouldn’t have to comp 40% of the tickets like he did 106
by daniel worby on Nov 26, 2009 12:31 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
sorry confused im confused
Lol I think u meant if it were in the UK it’d hurt live #s in USA due to tape delay. I read it wrong.
Though even if that is what you meant, they play it Live in the afternoon usually then replay it again @ night for ppl who couldn’t watch the live one or didn’t kno it was on lol.
But ya UK is nonsense cause GSP on a free card isn’t happening & they are yet to charge or put on a great UK card to charge ppv for.
Poor David ws I feel his pain
by daniel worby on Nov 26, 2009 12:35 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Sort of...lol
This fight was originaly penciled in to be the main event in Australia.
With that kind of time delay everyone in the northern hemisphere would know the result before the show aired (or at least before most people got to watch it).
There is a lot of fans out there who wouldn’t want to pay for the show if thier fighter lost. Im in the UK so it wouldn’t have affected me that badly the show could be starting at 8 or 9am so I could still watch it.
I think GSP would rather fight in canada (yes I know where it is..lol) but like I said there isnt a show scheduled.
Dana's attempting to jet-lag GSP to even the match
Just Dana attempting to secure his job given that McMahon would do a better job promoting because he doesn’t have small dick syndrome like Dana does.
Hardy stands no chance – I watched the GSP – Alves tilt once again last night just to see how badly he dominated Alves. If anyone think that Hardy is a better fighter than Alves, Fitch, or even KOS, they need to stop eating those poison things.

England, Canada and Australia all got screwed...
I’m unimpressed with the UFC, we’ve missed out on 2 big main events involving British fighters who are almost always on UK cards, just as they are finally facing quality opposition. Unless we get a top main event to make up for this like Canada and Australia have then I will probabaly go to a boxing card instead, as we actually get big fights in the UK in that sport.
Daniel, GSP got a title shot in Canada and realistically Dan isn’t going to win the belt, so at least let the guy have his one moment in front of his home crowd. Neither have any affiliation to New Jersey so it’s a bit of a cheat to take 2 stars away from their loyal fans.
There have been UK PPVs when we’ve been given proper main events, I don’t see the problem with watching a UK show live in the day or on repeat in the evening, I watch shows live at 3am without complaining and would honestly pay for the top cards.
i hear you
When the UK cards air live they air live in Canada around 3PM usually so its not a big deal. In fact a 3PM saturday card is nice every now & then. Doesn’t take anything away from ur night so I rather enjoy them.
As for Australia I have no clue when I would get that live ha ha. Oh well.
& I hear ur point on hardy getting it there because he probs isn’t gonna win. But I mean u can’t bank on that nor should GSP have to win there n make the poor guy feel bad @ home n hear GSP potentially get boo’d. It break my wittle heart just thinking about it :(
Ha ha whatever I just think USA doesn’t deserve a Canada vs UK belt defense.
by daniel worby on Nov 26, 2009 2:06 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
GSP got a louder reaction than Hardy...
So there’s no way that he’d get booed out of the building, the guy is a legend and only an idiot would boo someone that talented and respectful. And you’re right, the US don’t deserve Canada v England as their main event.
Supposedly the Australia card is happening in the middle of the day over there so that it is live in the evening in North America, sucks for them but it’s not as bad as Showtime forcing Froch-Dirrell to take place at 2am so that they could show it live in the evening in the US. It seems a bit wrong to me that everyone has to cater for the North American time zone, I know there’s a much bigger fanbase in the US and Canada but it’s still a shitty way to treat your foreign fans by either giving them substandard cards or good shows at a stupid time when they have to watch the shows live at inconvenient times.
Time Zones
Sydney, Australia has a 14 hr time difference from the US East Coast. It is 6:15am here in Florida and Sudney, Aus is noq 10:15 and it is 11:15 Am in London…I don’t know if that helped or complicated things more.
Yes I will be there with bells on
Oh but wait this will probably get cancalled due to injury with either or both parties and I will be forced to watch Swick vs Goulet 2 for the Interm belt
haha
I was hoping Goulet would have won the first battle. Anyone know what the Road Warrior has been up to lately?

GSP coming right next door
going to do everything I can to go to this event. I was out of town for UFC 101 and now they’re bringing the Welterweight title right next door. Sweet
this is awesome!
right in GSP backyard..Hardy is going to get SMASHED and have an entire arena against him. might even go to this one
I think he can take hardy any way he wants but if he plans on facing Silva he needs to
work on his stand up more than anthing for that fight?
Nah, I'd prefer that they duke it out standing up
But I’m sure once Hardy gets the better of these exchanges, GSP will turn into wrestling mode instantly!

Ya of course gsp will just take him down thats what he does, I said if he chooses to stand which he won’t he will get ko’d.
disagree
Guru, although I agree that Hardy hits harder than GSP. I think GSP would be too fast on his feet for Hardy to do any real damage. You might think Hardy is a giant or something and that he will just clobber GSP on the head and knock him out. That wouldn’t be the case though. GSP is too fast and talented on the feet to lose to Dan. Plus GSP does take a good punch. Just because he got knocked out (once in his entire career) doesn’t mean he is weak chinned. GSP wins this fight, on the feet or the easy way, doesn’t matter, GSP is twice the fighter Dan will ever be. I’m also a huge fan of Dan Hardy.

dont think so
last he stood with someone a guy called matt serra knocked him out and hes been a pussy since honestly tell me the last time we saw exciting gsp fight hes quickly turning into The Law
by irish maniac on Nov 26, 2009 9:59 PM EST up reply actions
Fighting smart doesn't mean he's a pussy
Why should GSP strike in his fights when he’s such a good wrestler? He should keep playing to his strengths, which is mixing up his striking with his superior wrestling and BJJ, it keeps his opponents on their toes and allows him to pick them apart in every aspect of MMA. If he’d have just stood with Alves then he’d have been KO’d but by mixing up takedowns with strikes he was able to dominate a very tough opponent. You call it boring, I call it tactical, give me tactics over mindless brawls anyday, strategy is the difference between champion and gatekeeper.
Spot on...
GSP is so versatile that he can beat you in many different ways. No one complains about Machida’s elusiveness and reluctantness to engage but GSP is a pussy cause he plays to his strengths which are vast to greak his opponents will and beat them down. GSP could have stood with Alves and quite possibly won that way but why take the risk against someone with that kind of power. Hardy has little to no chance in this fight. He can bring in as many wrestlers as he wants but no one has the hips and power that GSP has. GSP out wrestles guys like Rashad who is a Div 1 wrestler.

I remember GSP knocking down Matt Hughes, John Fitch, and Alves as well as stunning BJ (usually next to impossible) with standing strikes since his TKO loss to Serra. Try watching some fights before you comment irish maniac.
Myth: Three Americans die every year from rabies. Fact: Four Americans die every year die from rabies.
In fact, when GSP fights Hardy, I hope he comes out and doesn’t throw a single strike and wrestles him to the ground and gut-wrenches the shit out of him until Hardy submits just out of spite. Then the “GSP is only a wrestler” fans would actually have something to complain about.

Well, let’s honest jay. GSP was created within the confines of a test-tube and using genetic manipulation, nanotechnology and the right mixture of ninja and Chuck Norris…but it did happen within a secret military base within Quebec, so I guess you’re right.

i just want to see gsp fight again..and it does not matter where because he is a fighter that will not get boo’s due to the fact that he is respectful and humble…plus he kicks ass..but hardy has a punchers chance of course and that is all..he is a funny guy and he does have powerful hands..but really i see the fight ending however georges wants it to…i can’t wait till any ufc card comes to vancouver..cuz even though it’s an 8 hour drive..it’s better than the million dollar plane ticket to montreal..i just can’t believe how much it costs to fly across my own country..it’s nuts!!!

I was hearing rumblings that this fight would take place on UFC 109 (either this, or Anderson vs Vitor, and I guess it will be Anderson vs Vitor on UFC 109 now), but it makes sense to have it at UFC 111 just for the sake of having a strong main event on this card. I hope Hardy gets smashed. Honestly, I don’t see Hardy being that much higher than a Dustin Hazelett, “Stun Gun,” or Anthony Johnson (who are all up-and-coming contenders in Welterweight).

Wasnt at a club.
GSP was sitting front row when Hardy knocked out Rory Markham at UFC 95. “There are so many good guys in my division but I managed to lock eyes with Georges St Pierre outside the cage and we had a moment where I was like — ’I’m coming for you, I’m coming for you.”
Mania had an article on it – http://www.mmamania.com/2009/02/23/ufc-quick-quote-dan-hardy-locks-eyes-with-georges-st-pierre-thunder-cracks/

my only problem with GSP is on his UFC all access show he tells Rachelle that hockey is canada’s national sport!! it isn’t!!
