Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather in negotiations for May 2010 superfight

"Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer, promoters respectively of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr, are under way with negotiations to seal the superfight between boxing's pound-for-pound kings."

Finally!! Except it's expected to fall on the same date as the Rua vs. Machida 2 fight May 1st?

Neither is 100% confirmed but the UFC has announced that this card will most likely be taking place in Montreal the same day this fight is expected. I don’t know if boxing is planning on this or not I’m thinking they must know and are going to try and show the sponsors who is king and should be shelling out their money too, in a match the fans have been waiting to see for some time.

I have a biased opinion but I hope MMA fans pledge there support to the highly anticipated rematch between Rua vs Machida over this fight. I just think Rua and Machida are not a big enough draw to do much damage to a Pac and Mayweather fight, and will need another big fight to compete. Possibly a Brock or GSP fight since it’s in Montreal?

dana would move ufc fight just to screw boxing over

i wonder who gets more ppv’s? mma is now king in nevada but this fight would bring the younger crowd back for this one fight.

short attention span sorry. who knows maybe we will get another freebie on spike

btw boxing is mostly dead in nevada. i live here. other than 2 or 3 major fights that boxing might have in a year they do not have 500 -800 people watching hd tv’s in various casino’s showing ufc events. i know i goto them for free. caesar was stabbed in the back right? peace.

GSP is fighting in March

And I am not sure Brock will be ready by then.

The UFC should just re-book Machida/Shogun to a week later, if this fight does indeed get booked for the 1st. Putting two titles on the line is not an option, with the lack of title fights and number of events. The UFC’s PPV numbers will be significantly decreased if they try to go head to head with this monster.

This boxing match will do over 3 million buys if it happens. It is a way bigger fight than anything the MMA world can put together. Let boxing have it’s big moment back in the sun.

If the UFC can not change the date do you think they will put it on Spike or even network TV..

if they have deal yet? I know there are many fans that watch both that will be torn, but there is also a lot of ‘just boxing fans’ as there is a lot of ‘just MMA fans’. Can both do well on the same night or can there only be one?

If Zuffa has a network deal by then, that network is going to want to maximize ratings. No network execs will want to touch this date IMO. I really think they should just organize their schedule around it. Win/win for everybody.

Well, if the UFC choose to go against it, this will probably means that the card could be stacked. No complains there. They should keep GSP fight for Montreal also. 2 title fights on the same card (like before), could help them a bit more than only one. They still gonna lose the PPV battle though. I agree…It would be better if they organize their schedule around it.
Man I got goose bump just thinking about it.

you know this b/c your a boning expert? if ufc decides to go for the jugular expect another title match

i would say brock lesnar might be healthy by then. add kimbo too. kimbo when he fought on tuf show got 6 million people to watch on spike tv. plutarch know much more than you. peace.

You know Montreal will be sold out regardless....

And I think for a large part MMA fans and boxing fans are seperate maybe on a rough guess 20% of boxing fans are also MMA fans. This is boxings only real big fight left so big deal if the UFC brings in lower ratings than boxing I’m sure Rua vs Machida 2 will bring in around the same as their last event.

your absolutley right on. where does boxing go from here

that super six middleweight round robin is not getting the ratings showtime was expecting they would get. add maybe a healthy lesnar to fight somebody and add kimbo to fight a striker and who knows. peace.

Not a huge boxing fan...

but I would by this fight over any UFC PPV. This fight will be huge, and there’s no way UFC would be able to dent the numbers. Dana and the boys aren’t dumb, I don’t think there’s any chance they’re going to try to compete with this head-to-head.

the thing about boxing is they only give you one marquee fight

at least ufc gives you eleven or twelve fights on the last card. we had alot of people say it was an awful card but it sure turn out alot of good fights. how much you want to bet that the fight does not goes as planned. mayweather will complain about something. count on it.

UFC could only compete if they went network.

The only possible head to head scenerio for UFC is IF they go head to head on a network channel. This is boxings last card, and Dana does smell blood but nothing they put on PPV will even get a third of the buys on the same night so they would appear as the loser. If they premier on network television with a stacked card the economy alone will be in there favor.(Hey could get 8 million or higher and have the numbers on there side Especially if they did put kimbo and brock on the card hell throw gsp on the card to, if your gonna go head to head against boxings last and most interesting fight. Having brocks comeback for free is risky but dana will never put him head to with this fight on ppv. Free tv is the only option. I don’t think they need to do it, but it would get the media buzz.

no question my money would go towards pac-man/mayweather. i watch as many mma events as i can but this will be one of the biggest fights ever.
jj is right mma can offer nothing to compete with this. i dont get the whole either/or thing boxing and mma can coexist.
there is more than enough money to go around. its a buisness thing on the promoters end, but as a fan i like them both.

The only things i can think of is....

If Fedor signed for the UFC and had Brock or Andy, that would defo keep the hardcore mma fans tuned into the UFC, as for the casual fans, i think the attraction of the 2 biggest stars in boxing going at it is gonna be to great, and most of them will tune in for 11 rounds of mayweather bitching about holding or boxing in the inside like he did with hatton…

Hopefully Pac man knocks him out in the first and all the fans tune in to the UFC

Every night i would pray to God for a new bike, then i realized God does not work that way, so i stole one and asked him to forgive me
