Reports: Michael Bisping vs Wanderlei Silva back on for UFC 110 in Sydney

Wandy-bisping_medium

Wanderlei Silva has apparently recovered from his recent facial surgery. Michael Bisping has apparently recovered  from his devastating knockout loss at the hands of Dan Henderson. "The Axe Murderer" just needed a little time. "The Count" just needed a beatdown of Denis Kang at UFC 105.

What does all that mean?

Well for starters, it means that Wandy and the Brit are once again in talks to hook 'em up in a 185-pound brawl for the upcoming UFC 110 fight card, tentatively scheduled for the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, on Feb. 21, 2010, according to multiple reports (Fighters Only and Canadian Press).

Silva was originally being paired up with Yoshihiro Akiyama, but UFC President Dana White became increasingly disinterested in the sexiness of his main event, even talking about a change in headliners for the promotion's debut "down under" as recently as last Saturday.

Star-divide

It could be a very big test for both fighters -- and a pretty clear indication of who's still in the hunt for a future division title shot.

Even though Silva has lost five of his last six fights, he's an extremely aggressive and dangerous fighter who is capable of ending things early. In fact, "The Axe Murderer" has a technical knockout percentage of more than 70 in his 43 professional mixed martial arts bouts.

He'll likely look to up that "Count" in a potential bout against Bisping ... but that won't be confirmed until both men put pen to paper.

Stay tuned.

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre is rumored to headline UFC 110 opposite Dan Hardy; however, no official announcements regarding the promotion's first trip to Australia have been made at this time.

As always, keep it locked in to MMAmania.com for more updates on this still-developing fight card.

Good co headliner

Won’t be surprised if Bisping picks him apart. The days of wandy swinging his arms around like a mad man and knocking people out are over.

Hopfully wandy just K bisping TFO

What is happening to akiyama…..I rather watch him fight then these 2

Someone post up a recent pic of Wand

Recently every time i see him cornering his guys at smalls shows, he’s been looking extremely old especially after his surgery. Don’t know what that says about his state but u never know. He also seems to be taking quite well to managing his gym and teaching at the academy. Hopefully he still has enough of it to put out Biz.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Nov 25, 2009 12:05 AM EST up reply actions

I got to agree that in the video in the fanshot he wasn’t looking any younger like he said he is. He almost mess up when the reporter ask him about his age, lol. Wand seems very successful with is gym, but I doubt this will play against him. Bizzy is in big trouble IMO.

by Alpha Male on Nov 25, 2009 1:20 AM EST up reply actions

It’s hard to say. He isn’t the fighter he once was, but I think he still has what it takes to smash Bisping.

And I predict a whole lot of folks start jumping back on the ole Wandwagon when he does.

Yeah how funny would that be? The sudden bizzfans, will fall off the wagon as fast that he hit the mat when Hendo connected him with his right hand.

Interesting fight!

Its an interesting fight. YOu guys know how I feel about wanderlei and I am probably Bisping’s biggest fan, so its a good match up….but I honetsy would have prefered sexya,a/Wanderlei and they coud have matched up Bisping with Maia!

Yeah I would've like that better too johnny.

Btw, I don’t know if you’ve seen it but I let you a reply last night concerning our misunderstanding in the Slim Hardy thread. Again my bad homie.

by Alpha Male on Nov 25, 2009 1:41 PM EST up reply actions

I have to give Bisping credit

apart from the knockdown, he looked great in his last fight. He looked composed and a bit more polished. With that said, I hope Wandy can land a lucky hook and knock Bisping out in a barnburner

by rockwell_ on Nov 24, 2009 11:58 PM EST up reply actions

Yes he looked composed but wandy has such a killer instinct and bisping wouldnt of survived if he got droped like that against wandy

He is going to start fighting more aggressive, he says it himself and If that is his game plan against wandy he is probly going to get his head knocked off……….bisping didnt even know what happened to him when kang dropped him and i dont like the looks of that

by GOLDIGGAH on Nov 25, 2009 12:07 AM EST up reply actions

I think Wandy is going to be in good shape and have a better game plan the right hook, left hook, right hook. I think this fight someone’s going to get caught.

by LaBeast on Nov 24, 2009 11:44 PM EST reply actions

Meh

Bisping should just go for the TD, GnP and he should win pretty easily by decision or tko. Silva’s gas tank is highly questionable as his first fight at 185 and he looked gas at 195 aagainst Franklin. I’m sorry to say it but Wanderlei really sucks now…he’s lost like 4 out of his last 5?

by frosnt1 on Nov 24, 2009 11:53 PM EST reply actions

Close

5 out of his last 6 actually.

by mma guru on Nov 25, 2009 12:01 AM EST up reply actions

5 of 6 but to what caliber of fighters....

He has lost his 5 of 6 to Rampage, Hendo, Franklin, Liddell, and Cro Cop! All amazing-xchamps and stand up fighters with power in their hands. You guys make it sound like he has lost to b level fighters and cans of holiday soup. Bisping is not that caliber of a fighter. He looked good last fight and composed, but Kang and Wandy are 2 different fighters. Wandys instinct to go in for the kill and finish a fight are much more extreme then Kang. Wandy also has power in both hands and the knees and is has excellent BJJ. Bisping has no power to ko wandy. I like Wandy via tko or ko…Maybe Bisping can hit and run enough like he did in the Leben fight to out point him but that is it. If he goes for the takedown he will get swept and pounded. I think this is a good fight for Wandy to get some confidence back…

by Da Monkey on Nov 25, 2009 6:54 AM EST up reply actions

I actualy agree

Anyone who has ever read any of my posts knows hw much of a Bisping fan I am…..

But that doesnt make me an Idiot, I dont think Bisping is anywhere near ready to face another bighitter like wandy, he needs alot more work (and a different training camp as I’ve said before)

Wandy’s losses have all been to big “one hit” punchers (Frankilin is a possible exception) and Bisping doesnt offer that.

I see this fight going one of three ways

KO Wandy
TKO Wandy
Decision Bisping

I think one of the first two is the more likley at this point.

That doesnt mean I dont think Bisping can win the fight, he should look to the Franklin fight for Inspiration, If he can keep the fight going long enough wandy will gas (compared to bisping) and he can start taking rounds off him.

For Bisping its all about surviving the first round, Im sure wandy will come out swinging and trying to end it early, Bisping will be trying to take the last two rounds for the decision.

All that said Im still rooting for Bisping (allthough I like wandy too)

by Confused. on Nov 25, 2009 8:05 AM EST up reply actions

You read my mind exactly as far as the breakdown of that fight! Was a little to early to get in depth, once again thanks Confused…Wandy is far from done,he is still a serious threat to anyone trying to advance in his weight class. He is smart, super experienced, and has the best killer extinct in the game. His chin is a bit more questionable with the 3 huge KO’s he has taken recently but he took big shots from JArdine, Liddell, and Franklin and ketp pushing foward. He may not be a contender for a strap, but he is mos def a great gatekeeper and always a great fighter to watch win or lose!

by Da Monkey on Nov 25, 2009 8:23 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed

Ur not so confused afterall?… Good breakdown.

by THORAZINE on Nov 25, 2009 9:42 AM EST up reply actions

Well...

…Alot still depends on what Wandy turns up on the night and what kind of shape he is in.

But if as I expect he comes in well prepared and hungry we are going to see a good fight regardless.

Cant wait for this one….Main Event should be awesome too

If it all comes together this is shaping up to be a great card…..pity we all have to watch it on tape delay but Im glad the Aussies are getting a show.

by Confused. on Nov 25, 2009 10:23 AM EST up reply actions

I don't see

Why you think Wandi will win if Bisping goes for the takedown. Wandi’s not gonna stop his shot and he’s not gonna submit him off his back. If Bisping comes in with a good strategy (i.e. don’t try to stand and bang) this fight’s gonna be a total beatdown.

by frosnt1 on Nov 25, 2009 11:45 AM EST up reply actions

Bisping is not the greatest of takedown guys. He is usually defending the takedown. I am not thinking Wandy will submit him but I think he stands back up with little issue. I also think he will stop Bispings td…But that may just be my utterdislike for Bisping factoring in…LOL =p Sorry Confused!!!

by Da Monkey on Nov 25, 2009 12:07 PM EST up reply actions

LOL

No problem there are fighters I cant stand too.

Frosnt1 – Im simply saying that as of right now Wandi has more routes to victory than my boy Bisping does, Im not picking a winner outright….yet.

Bisping walked in to Kangs straight right and ended up on his ass, sure he remained composed and IMO in control even from the bottom but we have to assume that Wandy hits alot harder than Kang so a simmiler mistake will cost Bisping the fight.

Bisping needs a good strategy that includes aggresiveness, I dont think bisping can KO Wandy…it remains to be seen if he can get in to a position to get the TKO….Wandy has alot more heart than Kang so dont expect him to curl up ninja turtle style under pressure.

Like I said at the moment I think there is a high likleyhood that at some point over the coarse of 15 minutes Wandy will connect cleanly with Bisping….how Bisping handles that is going to determine the winner of this fight.

Regardless of who you support its going to be a hard won fight for the victor. Wandy isnt going to KO or Sub Bisping, if he stops the fight it will be by TKO, Bisping has a good chance of taking the descision..hes a smarter fighter than Wandy….there is a small chance he could get the TKO, if he gets that trust me no one who posts here will be happier than me.

At the moment Im deffinately leaning towards Wandy, but we will see how Bispings camp goes and Im sure I’ll change my mind as the fight comes closer…lol

by Orcus on Nov 25, 2009 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

Ya...

The fearsome Cro Cop, Lidell, Jardine combo that any decent LHW could beat (I’d toss Rampage in there as well because he’s vastly overrated). Forget about the competetion and just look at the fighters. BIsping is probably larger, won’t gas, throws way crisper punches, has better wrestling and vicious GnP. Wandi throws a series of wild left hook right hook combinations that make it look like his arms are about a foot shorter than they actually are. Literally the only chance Wandi has in this fight is to catch BIsping being reckless inside of the first round. After that, if Bisping mixes in some takedowns (which Wandi won’t be able to stop) it should be an easy UD or TKO by GnP.

And I don’t even like Bisping so don’t think I’m being biased (I actually make objective opinions that are unrelated to my personal feelings, unlike 95% of people on this site).

by frosnt1 on Nov 25, 2009 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

You can’t be serious. The Cro cop that beat wandy is the Cro cop from Pride, the Cro Cop that went three close rounds with Fedor, not the Cro Cop from the UFC (and he’s still very dangerous in the UFC). Liddell is still top ten in my book, put him against Griffen, Cane, Thiago Silva, and even a rematch with Evans and you’ll see a KO for Chucky. Jardine you have a point, but Wandy took care of him. Who has Bisping beat? Compare his resumé to Wandy’s and I dare you to tell me it’s more impressive.

cagar é uma filosofia profunda...
a merda bate na água e a água bate na bunda.

by Orcus on Nov 25, 2009 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

Cro Cop won the Pride OW GP when he beat Wandi, he was the man back then. Jardine got crushed and is still a better fighter than Bisping while Liddell was still a top ranked opponent. Rampage may be a dick but he’s also a quality LHW with great wrestling and boxing, probabaly the best boxing in that division. All 4 of them are better than Bisping, 3 of them are legends as is Wandi.

Bisping isn’t that good a wrestler, he’s been taken down before and his appalling takedown attempt against Hendo shows the difference between him and quality wrestlers. He also has a poor chin and has been knocked down in several of his fights as well as nearly killed by Hendo’s right hand. His striking technique is poor as he circles to his left all the time regardless of the stance of his opponent and has no power in his strikes. He also doesn’t have any submission offense and hasn’t been tested by a good grappler apart from when Red Schafer almost choked him out. Bisping is an overrated dick with good cardio and ground and pound but not that much else, he doesn’t stand a chance against Wandi.

Wendy is going need more facial surgery after The Bisping uses his face as a speed bag.

by bigmcmac on Nov 25, 2009 12:10 AM EST reply actions

by RearNakedBloke on Nov 25, 2009 2:34 AM EST reply actions

Makes good business sense...

The Aussies and Brits have a long history and rivalry sports-wise so having 2 Brits on the main card is a good move with a lack of Australian MMA fighters (since Bisping killed off their only “high profile” one in Elvis Sinosic!)

I still think people read too much into Hendo’s ko of Bisping, it was the first time he’s been knocked out and he didn’t look healthy before the fight even started. Saying that he didn’t know what Kang even hit him with to knock him down is not unreasonable – that’s what happens with a shot on the temple that knocks you down, it’s the brain shutting off for a second.

I’m not a great fan of Bisping’s style though and I think Wandy will be a challenge if he gets swinging – but then his style isn’t a million miles from Leben’s and we all know what happened in that fight!

Still wanna see Sexyama some time soon, not sure why he’s being overlooked. His ring entrance added some class that’s lacking a little in MMA too :D

by Jimrod on Nov 25, 2009 2:44 AM EST reply actions

It’s also a good way to piss off the British fans, by putting 2 local fighters on the majority of British cards then as soon as they get big fights not having them compete on British cards, especially when we were promised a title fight and Wandi-Bisping. Considering how successful the last show was in England I’m appalled that the UFC have done this, makes me think that they couldn’t give a toss about us.

Australia and England...

are about as far apart as you can get, about a 24 hour flight in fact. Buuut there is rivalry and friendly banter between the two as England shipped all its convicts over there to offload them to one of the colonies a couple of hundred years ago – Most Aussies are descended from Brits, hence the closeness of the two despite the physical distance.

Gotta disagree

If Bisping plays it smart and gets the take downs flowing like he did against kang then he can win this! Bispings stand up will probably not ever make him an elite fighter, but his ground and pound certainly could. He also has pretty good take downs, after all he took Rashad down…

If he gets near Wandi then he will be caught in his devastating muai thai clinch, then a few knees and punches later Bisping will be a bloody heap on the floor. He won’t get the takedown and this will be a short and brutal fight for Bisping guaranteed.

Then I’m sorry. But its still easy to make an excuse so I’m iffy on if ur telling truth or not ha ha. Anyways frosnt1 also showed he doesn’t read em by suggesting wandy lost 4 out of last 5 & posing it as a question that was already answered in the thread above.

I’m not trying to b an ass, its just I think mania puts those kinds of things in the thread to educate us & avoid so many repetitive comments below, but it doesn’t seem to work, because so many posters are in a huge hurry to be the 1st few to comment.

But what’s the point if its just to pose questions already answered?

Sorry if this came across rude, I’m just saying. Lol

Bisping is going to try and keep his distance and out point Wandy with jabs...

but a well rested wandy will not let what happened in the Franklin fight happen again and Bisbing will be forced to throw down with axe murderer.

Spot on

That’s what I’ve been telling everyone, god one fight and everyone suddenly thinks that Bisping’s a worldbeater while Wandi is washed up, madness.

hendo knocked both of these guys out

that being said, i think wanderle’s 100% is better than bisbing’s 100%. i see vanderle winning by early ko.

I’d much prefer Sexyama over Bisping and he probably would draw move people too considering there’s a lot of Japanese people in Australia. I really hope the Axe Murderer knocks out Bisping!
