UFC 106 medical suspensions and injuries for 'Ortiz vs Griffin 2'

Ouch

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 106: "Griffin vs. Ortiz 2," which took place on Saturday, Nov. 21 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

With several of the bouts drawing blood, there were quite a few fighters who were flagged follow up visits with their doctors. Chief among them are Luis Cane (orbital fracture) — who went ass over tin cups courtesy of several well-placed Antonio Rogerio Nogueira left hooks  — and Marcus Davis (broken nose) -- who ate several crushing Ben Saunders knees en route to sustaining his first-ever knockout loss.

Former light heavyweight champion, Forrest Griffin, who wasn't kidding in his post-fight remarks when he revealed he broke his foot defeating Tito Ortiz via split decision.

But that's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC 106 injuries and their medical instructions:

Star-divide

  • Forrest Griffin: Suspended Griffin until May 21, 2010, for a possible foot fracture; Minimum suspension until Dec. 22 and no contact until Dec. 13
  • Anthony Johnson: Suspended until Dec. 22 and no contact until Dec. 13
  • Paulo Thiago: Suspended until Dec. 22 and no contact until Dec. 13 for nasal bridge cut
  • Jacob Volkmann: Suspended until Dec. 13 and no contact until Dec. 6 for scalp and nasal bridge cuts
  • Luis Cane: Suspended until May 21, 2010, for right orbital fracture unless physician clears him to return sooner; No contest until Jan. 6, 2010, and no contact until Dec. 22, 2009.
  • Phil Baroni: Suspended until Jan. 6, 2010, and no contact until Dec. 22, 2009, for left eyebrow and scalp lacerations
  • Marcus Davis: Suspended until May 21, 2010, for broken nose unless physician clears him to return sooner; No contest until Jan. 6, 2010, and no contact until Dec. 22, 2009, because of multiple cuts.
  • Brock Larson: Suspended until May 21, 2010, for broken nose unless physician clears him to return sooner; No contest until Jan. 21, 2010, and no contact until Jan. 6, 2010.
  • George Sotiropoulos: Suspended until Dec. 22 and no contact until Dec. 13 for cut over left eyebrow
  • Jason Dent: Suspended until May 21, 2010, for left knee injury unless physician clears him to return sooner

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

I think we all saw it coming

What a shocker Cry Baby Ortiz not listed with a cracked skull [sarcasm]. What a total tool and a eight degree chump. I’m pretty sure he was claiming an orbital fracture and called the whambulancein the post fight. But “the world’s most injured man” is conspiculously absent from the injury report. There aren’t words for how much I hate this guy.

POLL: Is Tito Overpaid?

$250,000 per fight?

…more like $25,000 per fight.

Dana is an idiot for giving ape head another chance

Yes, Tito does not deserve that type of money...

But Dana knows that love him or hate him, Tito sells payperviews. Ape head still does not deserve that money!

ppv

If he keeps losing then eventually he will not bring in the ppv buys. I actually feel that this card probably wasn’t even close to the buys some of the other cards had this year.

True.

Tito, I will watch every fight to see if he gets beat, but with Brock, I will BUY every PPV to see him get beat.

If you only buy the PPVs waiting to see Brock lose, you’ll blow through a lot of time and cash. I’ll still save you a seat on the War Wagon once you come around. :)

I'm kind of a big deal.
